I didn't take it as criticism of the writing, though I didn't intend for anyone to want to punch him, so I thought I might've done something wrong there.
My intention was to make him sexist but well-meaning, which is a lot different than sexist and-not-really-caring. Because I think we can all be bigoted in one way or another, without understanding why or how it manifests. The important thing is to be able to listen when someone says they have a problem with it, which is what I tried to have Kirk do in this. I'm really glad that was the way it read for you, and thanks for telling me your thoughts on it.
I found this fic somewhat tricky, as I don't think there are solutions here, or even away to stop one's self from prejudice, no matter how well-intentioned any of us are. It's touch and go; you try and listen; you try and listen. And you go forward.
