I've never felt guilty for not liking a character, in any fandom, except for this one, and only about Doyle. There are several other characters I dislike in Jossverse, but I feel free in my hatred for all of them, except Doyle.
I feel bad about disliking Doyle because Doyle died. I feel bad about disliking Doyle because Glenn Quinn died. I feel bad about disliking Doyle because I think Angel loved him. I think Angel loved him a lot. When you think about it, Doyle was the first male friend of his very own Angel ever made (possibly he had some as Liam, but I doubt those were the same kind of friendships). So Doyle was also the first friend Angel ever really lost (he gave up Buffy, who was arguably a friend, but I wouldn't say he "lost" her. Ever). I guess my problem is I think Doyle's character and his death makes both the story of the series and the character of Angel that much richer--except me not being able to really like Doyle makes me feel like I'm outside that richness, looking in. If that makes any sense, which it probably doesn't.
