I have been sucked into three fandoms, and I can't find a pattern to the hows.

Harry Potter went:

1. Canon was a huge part of my childhood, but I like other fantasy novels better.
2. Finds fanart for a fic dA with a link back to fic (Hermione/Draco, as it happens) reads fic, and decides this fanfic thing is awesome. I'm sixteen here, and it's in between the pubication of books five and six.
3. Discovers Severitus fic and falls in love.
4. Discovers porn and is mildly appalled, then goes on search for the good smut, and has a bit of a sexual awakening.
5. Decides to write nothing until all seven books are out and I'm 18.
6. Starts LJ and No Difference (100 thousand word angsty genfic, which is just about all I write of varying lengths) account just before and just after 18th birthday, and gets busy.

Avatar: the Last Airbender went:

1. Hears about it through Shyamalan's race!fail, in which everybody also mentioned how epic the source material was.
2. Decided that given my reading taste, I was probably going to love it, talks my grandmother into putting it in her netflix queue
3. Gets own Netflix account, watches whole thing in like three weeks, falls hard, and needs fic now!
4. Searches for a rec list, finds Avocado_love's and goes from there.
5. Writes a short little oneshot about the Northern Water Tribe and their feminist revolution, more shortfics and drabbles, before embarking on two seriously long fics, one is posted and a third finished, one is not posted, and half done.

White Collar went:

1. Sees the show, enjoyed it, but didn't feel overly fanish, and didn't feel the need for fic.
2. Finds out through Metafandom that the fandom for said show is almost completely composed of Peter/El/Neal shippers, and decides I am so on that.
3. Discovers that in nonfantasy fandoms, apparently, I write AUs with magic.

The only thing is, I am very self confident in my fandom interactions.
