First: yes, I can definitely see the influence; I think I might have recognized it even if we hadn't already been discussing said author. *g*

Second: you were not kidding about the sad. It took me a couple of reads through the last bit to conclude that Harry intends to save future-Draco's life by never getting together with Draco at all, and therefore never giving future-Draco a reason to come back (and die). But I wonder if Harry realizes that if future-Draco doesn't come back, then Voldemort will win (I assume?) and then present-Draco might very well die anyway.

Or maybe not. I've never actually read HP7, so possibly I'm not interpreting the meta quite right. That would be even worse, maybe, if Harry was actually correct; if he pursues an epilogue-compliant future (or some other one, whichever) and it actually works.

Also, I loved all the fannish bits. I spotted the leather pants bit, of course, but also Draco's account of the epilogue future and all the other possible fannish futures amused me quite a lot.
