It's Lion Turtles all the way down ([personal profile] lettered) wrote2013-10-05 12:07 pm

help me flist you're my only hope

Does anyone have any recs for vids about Loki? Or know where I can find recs for vids about Loki?

I'm only interested in vids, not fic.

I don't really want silly or humorous ones, or ones that are only romantic. Really I want ones about Loki being destructive, cruel, dangerous, sexy, powerful, pathetic, jealous, sympathetic, unsympathetic, monstrous, pitiful, sarcastic, elegant, classy, snarky, articulate, abused, creepy, incestuous, violent, hateful, insane, vengeful and/or angry. If you have any ideas, please help!

I want the vids because I'm working on writing a musical with a friend. As we discuss ideas, we keep bringing up characters, art, books, movies, comics, poetry, songs, and music videos that help us explain to each other the mood and flavor of the character/scene/song/set/costume/etc that we're going for.

I was describing to her a character that was over-protective to the point of violence--a mother who would raze the whole world just to keep her daughter safe. I showed her this Angel vid, which remains one of my very favorite vids. I chose the vid mostly because I wanted her to hear the song, Counting Bodies, but to hear Perfect Circle tell it, the song is about W and the government. This is far less interesting to me than the vid, which is about a father who would not only raze the world, but kill his son in order to protect him.

I don't think my friend had ever seen a really good fanvid before. I wish I could just show her all the ones I love (which is actually quite a small number), but I don't think she's interested in fanvidding in and of itself. Fanvids, however, usually have more solid stories and characterizations, and often times more vivid visuals, than music videos. That was the case with this vid, and it really inspired her. I think she got a really solid understanding of the kind of character I was talking about when she watched the vid, and it gave her a lot of ideas. Our character is nothing like Angel; the situation is nothing like Angel's and Connor's; my friend's music will be nothing like Perfect Circle, and of course we will not be able to recreate the visuals of the vid. It's just the flavor of the thing that is important to us.

So anyway, we were discussing another character and coming up with a list of characters/visuals/narratives/etc that basically demonstrate the archetype we're going for. The list includes, but is not limited to, Erik from Phantom of the Opera, V from V for Vendetta, Jareth from Labyrinth, Scar from The Lion King, and Loki. My friend doesn't really know who Loki is in myth, comics, or MCU, and I didn't really bother to explain it to her because there are so many different versions and interpretations.

I did, however, show her the ten seconds of the Thor 2 trailer that goes like this:

Loki: You must be truly desperate to come to me for help.
Thor: You should know that when you betray me, I will kill you.
Loki: *smiles* When do we start?

I didn't like the first Thor movie and I don't really care about the next one. However, this ten seconds of the trailer is pretty much the hottest thing since burning. If we get the Loki whom we all know Hiddleston can totally pull off, I will be the biggest Thor fangirl since Wagner or something. But anyway, I showed this to my friend, and she instantly knew what I meant about this character, and had all of these ideas. I would like to feed her with more ideas that have a lot less to do with canon MCU Loki and a lot more to do with Loki as he could be, which includes many of the adjectives I listed at the beginning of this post.

Oh, fanvids. Why do you have to be so cool?
