I think it's so interesting that your mom mentioned Hamilton. I love that works like Hamilton and Spider-Verse are exposing so many more people to how wonderful and layered and just plain good hip-hop and rap are. Has she seen Black Panther? Did she like that soundtrack? (I also use those soundtracks to duck in and see what I should be listening to. I don't listen to that much rap and hip-hop, but I work with young people and movies like Spider-Verse make it so much easier for me to stay up to date with what my students listen to and skip having to suffer through top 40 playlists.)
