Oh. Wow. I love the density of this, the interweaving intricacies like the design of a Tiffany lamp shade, lead and glass and pattern. I love how the first one is the one with so much hope and the hope dwindles away with each new layering, and yet even in the end they do something marvelous and heroic. I also like how the details start out simply, wine, salt, garlic, those immediacies amid apocalypse, and then get grander, bolder.
