I still haven't learnt to resist and not offer when I see potential, because a potentially good story might mean a potentially good author...and I still fall for it now and then.
I totally understand this, because sometimes I really just have to SIT on my hands. But like I said, I usually just end up telling myself there's better fic out there. The thing is, if it has enough potential, I like the fic anyway, and if I like the fic, I leave positive fb. If I leave positive fb, my ideal scenario is that two things will happen: that writer will keep writing, and because she's working at it and doing it, improve on her own. And two, that we will get to know each other and possibly like each other, which will give me an excuse to try to help her improve instead of, oh, I don't know, doing the dishes and taking out the trash.
I ranted about the 'anonymity' concept, which, imo, doesn't help anyone, on either side
The idea has its merits. stultiloquentia pointed out that fans can be just plain timid, especially when it comes to BNFs and they're not confident about their own writing. But while anonymity might give a mouse the courage to say something they might not've said about fic they like, the down-side in the situation far outweights the up, imo.
