And yeah, you're gonna hear this if you want to or not, sorry!

Hopefully you're not really sorry, because I really want to ;o)

But for me, if I offer concrit, it's because I liked your story and I want it to be better.

I think we're talkin about the same coin, actually, and even the same side. I don't crit unless I a. like the story and b. want it to be better. With me, there are just more prerequisites for me to lift a finger to con crit. As I said to [livejournal.com profile] phantomas above, if I like a story, but don't know the person because she's a newbie or what have you, I leave positive fb. The I'll hope that her writing either improves because my encouragement keeps her working on it, or because my encouragement has led to a kind of relationship in which I feel it's worth my time to offer con crit. Or I'll hope her writing improves by being around me and my good writing. Seriously, I'm that arrogant.

and I agree about making sure you give one, serious, unqualified compliment, although I don't know that I've always done that

I haven't always done it either. I haven't always done all these things every time, but it's what I try to do if I'm not being ditsy.

They're going to go do something else that makes them happy, not offer real, genuine concrit.

Word. And thanks!
