In part because it seems more often than not when I've seen others do it they receive the "Well, that's how I see the characters!" or "Well, this is my!verse and it's AU because I didn't like the way they did the character in canon."

I see this ALL the time and I just don't get it. Fanfic is taking the characters on the show and putting them in AU scenarios, not taking the scenarios and putting in AU characters. (Some people do AU both, which I call crack!fic). But hey, it floats their boat. I don't bother telling people I have a problem with it until I get an idea (explicitly or implicitly) about what they want to do with their fic.

2) If point 1 is true, point to reactions and interactions in canon to make a point.

Yeah, characterization is a really tough issue to con crit, and even once you do this, the writer STILL might not agree. But it's how I handle characterization crit.

I was hopeful the anon con-crit meme it wouldn't become another format where those who are already receiving praise elsewhere received even more praise ( a la - cool kids gushed over), that those leaving crit would do it well and that those receiving it would take it well.

I was amazed at how much praise there was. If I'd've signed up for it, I would be vastly disappointed to hear only praise, because the whole point was to get crit. But I got the impression a lot of people just signed up their names not because they wanted con crit but because they were curious about what people had to say. That's all well in good, but to me it seems rather...deceptive.

there were way too many who said, "Well, that's my vision of that character." or "That's my writing style (and I'm not interested in changing 'cus I like it)!".

I wasn't too surprised at the useless con crit--the point I'm making here is that it's a lot of work to give good con crit, and I don't think most people have the desire, much less the time, to put that much effort into it. I was disappointed, however, by how many people implied the crit didn't matter to them and they weren't even going to consider it or ask for more explanations.
