Oh, I didn't find it out of place. Well, I did in that I rarely get to enjoy anything that much. And it was a slow read, but only because I was so busy cherishing every moment.

I confess, Mae did not grow on me. I would like to talk more about it once TDC has been released, because there are definitely interesting things there to discuss. But I think that even if Mae doesn't grow on you in this one, it's definitely worth the read.
