Man, I love reading the "dvd commentary" for fic. It really makes you appreciate more how you got it from your head, to the paper (screen, whatever). The researching and worrying of the littlest details is what makes great fic. But I think especially with this fic, as you said, is pretty dense and I think you've got to read it a few times to pick up on everything. Then you read this and you're just like "ooh!".

Anyway, now I have the urge to re-read it.
