5 Favorite Fics Meme

[livejournal.com profile] a2zmom tagged me; [livejournal.com profile] stoney321 asked.

1. The Confessional (Angel and Faith gen). By far and away, my favorite fic, sometimes my favorite thing I've ever written, EVER. It says deep stuff about the characters. It goes beyond the characters, imo, and says deep stuff about we who experience characters, about humanity, too, imho. Also, I finally managed to merge my poetic style and my more straightforward style, and there's experimentation with POV without being obtrusive.

2. Blood Types (Angel character study). Although I like the piece itself, what I enjoy most about it is the intent with which I wrote it and the reaction I got. Frankly, I wrote it so fandom would notice me, and then fandom did. Fandom was very kind. (So was [livejournal.com profile] kita0610 and her super BNF powers ;o)

3. In The Name Of The Father (Wesley character study). Two reasons I love this so much: I wrote it in a night; I didn't need to agonize; I got high on writing it like I hadn't gotten in a while. Second reason is I said exactly everything I wanted to in exactly the way I wanted to. Sometimes I don't feel like writing Wesley ever again, because for me this piece says everything I have to say.

4. Something Good (Sound of Music WIP). I've been ficcing this movie in my head since I was a little kid. To write something that feels true to the canon to me was and is very, very fulfilling. The people I met along the way were just as fulfilling; some of the first friends I had in fandom ever I met through this fic and my time in the SoM fandom.

5. 5 Ways NFA Probably Didn't End (AtS ensemble). I had a lot of trouble choosing #5. Frankly, I don't like to reread this piece. I find it dense and difficult. But I like it because I felt I took a risk, made the effort, and in some ways succeeded. What I love about it was that people often say fandom doesn't appreciate complexity, that attention is not paid to gen, to unusual pairings, to non-porn, to. . . anything like this. I found that isn't true. This piece makes me less afraid to experiment, and that's a thing to love.

All of those fic are brilliant (well, the AtS ones anyway. I admit to not having read anything in Sound of Music), but I especially love "The Confessional" and I can see why it's your favorite. I went back into it to find my comment, and couldn't see where I had commented. If I never did, I was seriously remiss. The characterization in that is so spot-on and the voices are perfect. Your Faith is just Faith. It's wonderful.

My favorite fics? I'm going to have to think about that! *g*

*MEMORIES* I'm loving these lists - I mentioned to you earlier that I'm finding that I'm really enjoying the pics the authors are choosing.

Also, I've never read your SoM fic, so WHEEEEEEEEEEE!! I've not read #1, so I'm very much looking forward to that, hurrah!

If I had only ever written one fic or wanted to give one fic only for people to read by me, it'd definitely be the COnfessional.

The SoM fic is ponderous in places, and the concept itself isn't original (just some missing scenes things) though I still enjoy rereading it. If you want great original SoM fic that's cleaner in style I can suggest great things by [livejournal.com profile] imnotacommittee.

Oh, Rolf.

Aw, thanks! I love people loving that fic because I think it's the most . . . personal fic I've written.

I can't wait to see your list! I think there're quite a few things by you I haven't read.

[identity profile] tinpanalley.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)

*bookmarks like crazy* I think I've only read one of these! Yay! New fic to read!

[identity profile] a2zmom.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I love these fics so much. Well, except for that SoM thing. Joy, I've already told you, I not reading fics where underaged children are tortured into wearing lederhosen and singing. It's just too kinky.

Now I'm thinking of rereading Confessional. That fic floats my boat, makes my elevator rise and scrambles my eggs.

I told you about the SoM sing-a-long I went to hosted by a transvestite named Candy, right?

makes my elevator rise

haven't heard that one before. Though it sounds vaguely obscene. And thanks! I do really really love that fic.

"Blood Types" remains the benchmark by which I measure all fic. Unless it's fic about Spike and Xander shopping at Wal-Mart and then playing pool and watching porn. Because I'll read the crappiest of that - I'm a true 'shipper you know.

Has someone tagged you? If not, I totally do, because I'd *love* to read the things you're happiest with. This is a really cool meme; I'm bookmarking like crazy, too!

Hee! I'm totally like that about B/A. Well, I used to be. I go through phases where I will read the *worst* all human AU about Angel-the-babysitter just to see: "Buffy! Angel! Mine! Yours!" written out all in a row.

And thanks ;o)

I have not heard about this sing-alomg. Or, if I had, I somehow managed to push it to the dark recesses of my mind. So, now I need to here about it again. Or, possibly for the first time. This whole memory thing is confusing. I feel like Wes.

Oh, I love you, R.

No! No one has tagged me! Yay! I'll try to post my list tonight!

Yay!!! You've included Something Good, which is a very good thing :-)

I'll have to revisit this delightful series of fillers, all crammed with the Captain. Life is good.

And your friendship is treasured for me as well, mon amie.

SG has a *very* special place in my heart. I feel parts are a bit wordy now, but not so much that it bothers me or anything. I still really want to finish it.

*loves on you, inac*

That shocked me. It really did. It was So. Much. Fun., too.

Again I am amazed. There's a Sound of Music fandom?! Who knew?!

I've booked marked Confessional. That's one I've never read. I've also got your comments from the Future Bodies post to read. It's been hectic at work this week.

I love the choices you made here, I can't wait to read the ones I've never read and I am stoked to read two of my favorite fics evah once more! Blood Types and the Five Things NFA are tremendous pieces.

[identity profile] imnotacommittee.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Candy was a sight to behold. I loved being right up front; she was amused by us as well. And it was a blast. People are so crazy in their comments. And larger than life Friedrich. What more could anyone ask?

[identity profile] imnotacommittee.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if you want to re-write it, you won't get any complaints from me!

I don't remember it being too wordy, but the author's perspective is always different (and harsher, too). I remember loving that moment when the whole family is sitting in the room for lesson time, and the Captain reads Gretl (or maybe Marta... one of the little ones) a story. Soon, the whole family stops what they're doing and listens. The bit where the Captain notices Maria's leg pressing against his... uber sexy without a note of scandal. Perfect.

Hm, I've never read Sound of Music fanfic. That might be interesting....
I seem to keep gaining things that I want to read. Oh, dear. =P =)
