I always have trouble with post-NFA fic, because - in my eyes - it was their moment of glory, and whatever happened in that alley, they would come out better than they were at W&H: but in fic they generally end more broken and it's so difficult to shift perceptions to get it... So usually the story hurts, but somewhat removed, because it's obviously not the post-NFA guys I know - but this one somehow while sill feeling wrong is, well, them right there, and that makes it worse. Um. I'm not complaining, by the way =) That was an attempt at praise! Really!
They are completely lost, aren't they? What's amazing is that it looks like Illyria is better then others at adapting to a new life. All the things that happens to them, and their reactions - I don't know, whether it's the density of information, or the way that it's only hinted at - makes it extremely real like I'm watching someone I know in real life coming apart, but because of things that happened to them, I don't know them, not anymore, even if I'm absolutely sure that it's still them. Does hat even make sense?
And I feel like I overabused third person plural personal pronouns in there. The little joys of second language usage...
