Flist cut

I just cut more than half my flist.

Story time: I remember when I was wee and first got an lj. I didn't understand how I could possibly keep up. But gradually I got into a swing and as I did so I gradually added what I could handle. Now I have reverted and feel the need to sort of start again with a much smaller intake. Probably I will gradually add a lot of you back. I've cut some people who I consider friends, just because they post a lot or have long posts or are currently busy with other fandoms right now. The list isn't a list of my friends. Nor it is a reading list. It's what I can handle on a day-to-day basis.

Some people mentioned a filter, and for some reason I just don't think that would work for me. I would eventually not take it off, I think, and there's not much point in that. "OMG I need to find out what so-and-so is doing because I haven't seen her for a while!" sounds like something I would do. "OMG I need to look at that other filter now!" doesn't. So don't be surprised if I took you off but still pop in to read.

If you're concerned or want to talk about it, you can drop a line here. Or, if you understand but later post something you want me to see/comment on, you can always leave a comment, or email me at thekorapersonality@hotmail.com.

You should feel free to take me off your list if you like. You should also feel free to keep me. In principle, we should all be able to make of these lists what we want, without people feeling like their designating friendships. In practice, it sometimes feels different, which is why I made this post.

*hugs* I completely understand why. :-)

I couldn't handle filters, either. I think it's polite of you to offer an explanation, too.

Hee, thanks. I feel sort of horrible, but also feel I shouldn't feel that way.

Even though I know they're there, I'm always asking the same question. Which is why I know I'd never *actually* use them if I tried them.

I'm glad to see you're back. :)

Hey, sweets, my comment earlier wasn't to make you not cut me. If you're that busy, I post way too much, fannish or not, and really, it doesn't bother me at all.

I mean, I'm glad to stay, but I value your sanity a lot more than my ego :)

And I feel the same way about filters. I know they're there, I know how to use them, but I know in my heart that if I put people on a filter, I would never, ever look at them ever again. it's just how I'm wired.

That's okay -- it's just good to see you around again. Not that I've been around much either :-)

Hey! Nice to see you too :o)

I know. Liz_marcs said the same thing and was really cool about it. Then you both made posts I would have hated to have missed. It's still a work in progress, anyway.

Thanks so much for being understanding about it.

Yeah! How's it goin'?

Oh man, thanks for asking. I'm never sure whether to answer a question like that politely or honestly. I'm British, we're conditioned to be politely distant, it's confusing *g* The short version is it hasn't been my best year ever. It has in fact sucked like a sucking thing that's getting paid by the hour to suck -- a lot. But I'm still hoping it will get better.

How about you -- how have you been?

P.S.

Please don't worry about replying to this comment if you're feeling pressed for time. I understand about feeling like you can't keep up, and my flist is way smaller that yours was to begin with ::hugs::

1) One of the reasons I cut down my flist was I wanted to always be able to reply to people. I've always had more people friended than I friended back, and I always felt kinda bad about that, but I'd feel especially bad if they felt there was no way to interact with me, like I wouldn't answer them if they commented. So one reason I cut my flist way down was so that I'd always be able to reply to comments. But even if that weren't the case--I do consider you a friend, and would always endeavor to reply to you :o)

2) I have the same problem knowing whether to give a real answer to that question! But usually when I ask, I really am interested...I'm sorry to hear your year hasn't been going well. I hope you and your loved ones are well...you know, if you ever want to talk, you can always drop me a line or email. (((hugs)))

3) Last year was pretty much the worst year of my life, which isn't saying much considering my life is pretty great, but anyway at the end of it I did make one of the best decisions I've ever made, which was to move here. I really love where I live now, who I live with, where I work, who I work with, and the things I feel like I'm getting done with my free time. I never really imagined I would be happy with what I have now, but I am, and it's a good feeling.

I'm thinking of you and hoping things get better for you.

That makes complete sense. I think it's an excellent reason to cut your flist. And when it comes to it LJ is supposed to be a fun creative outlet, at least mostly, not one more stress in your life. That's what I always thought anyway.

Aww. Thank you. Likewise.

I hope you and your loved ones are well...you know, if you ever want to talk, you can always drop me a line or email. (((hugs)))

Things do seem to be improving now. Thanks ::hugs::

Last year was pretty much the worst year of my life,

God, I'm really sorry to hear that.

which isn't saying much considering my life is pretty great,

Well, I think we've had thins conversation before, but as far as I'm concerned all these things are relative. What floors one person may barely dent another, it all depends on what gets to you.

I really love where I live now, who I live with, where I work, who I work with, and the things I feel like I'm getting done with my free time. I never really imagined I would be happy with what I have now, but I am, and it's a good feeling.

I'm so glad to hear that, it makes me very happy for you. Long my it continue.

I'm thinking of you and hoping things get better for you.

It's appreciated :-) I think things will start getting better now.
