This part was actually just supposed to be backstory for the story I was going to write, but it got very involved, because it was an attempt to explain who the AU human Angel and Spike were, and why they were so fucked up. I think Darla and Dru are formative, so that's why they're here--as you say, they were instrumental.
I think Buffy is formative too, but she's off-screen in this.
