2011 was an intensely action-packed year for me. My life isn't often action-packed, so I thought I'd make a list of things I did/what happened. It's more for me to remember than for any of you to read, but here you go anyway.

-first read The Hunger Games (not that impressed)
-lived with my best friends as they got divorced
-learned what epidemiology is
-had conversations with my niece for the first time
-was contacted by both an agent and an editor
-first watched Supernatural
-produced and directed a play
-met the Deputy Administrator of NOAA
-went to Victoria, BC
-signed a contract with an agent and a publisher
-first (really) listened to MUSE
-hosted a panel at a con (Geek Girl Con in Seattle)
-wrote a book
-went to the PRIDE parade
-moved house
-wrote at least 12 fanfics
-shared curriculum about health I created with visitors from the CDC
-was emailed by the actor who played Omar Little on The Wire
-ceased having a working car
-had someone develop a crush on me, which has never ever happened before
-beta'ed some awesome fanfic
-first started watching M*A*S*H
-got an ipad
-realized that the last four years have changed me more than any other time of my life that I can recall

Dude, what an eventful year! I tend to let my life slide by without much self-examination, so my first thought was that I couldn't even think of one interesting thing like you've got here. Then I remembered that I posted fic for the first time, which, yeah, pretty big for me. But I will have to think some more, because it's good to give one's life shape by noting things.

I knew about The Wire, the book, the agent, etc., but I'm v. curious about the health curriculum if you ever feel like writing about it.

Also, damn: when we gonna get us some CP? I have a Laurent icon now but only over at LJ. It's pretty. There's one CP fic in Yuletide this year, btw.

I saw the CP fic! Haven't read it yet, because hd_hols is so freaking massive.

OMG, congrats on posting your first fic! That is indeed a momentous event. I think thinking about what happened over the year helps me understand where I am and what I need to do.

Health curriculum! It's interesting. I work at a science center. There are interpreters there who talk about our permanent exhibits--the butterfly house, the tidepool, the models of the planets. Sometimes these interpreters take out additional props on a cart, and focus on a topic. A cart is different than a science show where we blow stuff up--this is a more personal conversation, smaller but more in depth. I create and maintain those props, train the interpreter doing the talk, and write guides for what they should say and how they should say it, giving them background info they need.

In 2010 our county got a grant from Obama to improve health in the county, specifically focusing on obesity, diabetes, and lung cancer. Our science center got a grant from the county to develop two carts that focuses on nutrition and access (thus the epidemiological aspect). I developed the carts, made props (some of them are adorable, I must say), commissioned props to be made, wrote guides, trained presenters, researched, gave presentations to the county officials to update them on our progress with the grant, and generally worked my butt off. In September, some guys from the CDC in Atlanta came up to Seattle to view what our county was doing with the grant, and the county people I was working with liked the activities so much she wanted to show the CDC people. So I presented for them and we had a good time. They were a bunch of suits but they were nice. Curricula may have been the wrong word for what I did. But anyway I did it and was really proud of it.

There's only one book. Isn't there? But I'm always trying to write other ones. Right now I'm writing a gay Beauty and the Beast. The merchant father doesn't let Beauty pay for his mistakes. He's a sort of Mr Bennett. IN DISGUISE.

Omar Little! Michael K Williams said something like, "hey, can I get a copy of your book when it comes out?". This was before we knew we were doing a book.

I got to beta/review some really satisfying stuff this year. Speaking of gender switch, one was a gender switch Persuasion. I sort of didn't keep up with it though so I'm afraid the writers may have given up on me. I should email them!

The other book I was wondering about was Persephone. Gay Beauty and the Beast, whaaat? How would that even...your brain...it is weird and wonderful.
