Author's Notes: Lots and lots of thank yous to kjp_013, who beta'ed very fast without a whole lot of notice. This fic was inspired by Go Your Own Way (here on LJ or here on AO3), a Bruce Wayne/Commissioner Jim Gordon fic I wrote in November, 2009. I think they are two very different fics--not just due to the different universes, but really different plots and characters and ultimately, themes, but I do kind of think of both stories as two plants that grew from one (really crazy, possibly evil) seed.


...Now I have a whole lot of posts to make about writerly style and guessing polls and writing process and fests. If only I had twenty million hours of time to set aside for fandom...

I finally got around to reading this, and I really enjoyed it! No, seriously, this is the first time I've read H/D of any significant length in six years or so, so please consider that more of a compliment than it probably sounds like. :O The world/job-building was very compelling, and I loved all the little details -- the surveillance spells, the guises, plus Malfoy making tea. Even more so, those moments everywhere, which make you feel as a reader that Harry Is Being Really Dense For Not Figuring It Out, until you take a step back and look at it from his perspective, and realise that no, it's more than understandable that he can't connect the pieces.

Also, I adore the way you write dialogue. It's just so neat and clean, in terms of the language, and yet it rolls you right along with it.

Anyway, loved this! Glad I ventured past my usual boundaries, for once. ;)

I really rushed this. Which is something I'm trying not to say to most people, because I don't want to seem like I'm waving my hands and making excuses--or worst of all, seeking reassurance. I don't need it; I'm really proud of it and glad I got it done, but I just don't think it's what it could have been. Still there were super spies; that was fun.

I fiddled a lot with the Harry Is Dense (HID) because I think he's a clever bloke and didn't want him to be annoying, but it was so so hard to figure out what the reader would know when they came to the piece, you know?
