I agree, I came to the fandom late, about 3/4 years ago. And by then seems fandom had died down a bit. But then I go on LJ and realize, that no, it's not, there are still huge B/A shippers out there, there are still people as passionate about the show, its characters and relationships.
I agree, some people are tired of it, they back away from any sort of disagreements. What people don't understand is there are wars (malicious intent etc etc) and there are disagreements, with theories and opinions, and thought out discussions.
That's what I love about THIS fandom in particular, the possibilities are endless, even after 8 or 9 years, whatever the case may be of watching this show, it has so many layers, so many levels, and you learn new things every day.
Fandom is a place to share in the love, hate of whatever story, character, a place for in depth discussion. Most of all just knowing that there are people out there obsessed who care about BTVS as much as you do, is a good feeling, you develop friendships, connections and bonds.
Oh how I love fandom, although like always you have to take the good with the bad sometimes.
