Captive Prince!!!
1) Guys, Captive Prince. Captive Prince, guys.
2) Has anyone bought the paperback novels? I wanted to, because the maps and covers look pretty, but for some reason never did. I have no idea whether the Penguin editions will use her covers etc, so maybe I should buy them while I can.
3)
coffeeandink said maybe the publishers are hoping for another Fifty Shades. It would be so awesomesauce if the book was popular. And gay romance novels become more mainstream.
4) I'm wondering how much they'll edit?
5) Book 3, you guys. Guys, book 3.
6) Once on my way to Portland to see my brother, I'd just gotten off the bus, and checked my ipad. I saw there was an update of Captive Prince. I walked to the rental place, rented a car (Okay, I know, environment, but the train was booked for the time I needed it and renting a car and driving it to Portland is actually cheaper than taking a train there), got in the car, and then drove to a parking lot. And then proceeded to read the update before starting my drive because I JUST COULD NOT WAIT.
6) In other news, I think Kindle Worlds is hilarious.

In other news, Captive Prince is an online original slash novel by freece. Unlike Fifty Shades, it's not based on anything, though it does use some tropes common to some fannish slash. (Primarily, the "sex slave culture" idea, in which sex slaves are not only openly accepted, but somewhat the norm.) When CP was first recced to me, I couldn't get into it. I really don't like non-con (not on principle. On principle, I think people's ability to write and read fictional non-con can be quite wonderful, normal, and healthy. Emotionally, it makes me feel icky and sad and hurt). I really really don't like it, in a deep down, visceral way, and the beginning was just really hard to read. But the person who recced it to me said, "Do whatever is necessary to get out of the scenes set in the royal court. Just skip those chapters if you have to, because this story is worth reading."
And let me tell you, it's worth reading. There's such great plot, world-building, and characters. The plot is really political and Byzantine and awesome, with all these twist and turns and machinations. The world-building is rich, but doesn't take over the story. And I am in LOVE with one of the characters. He's one of my favorites anywhere. And the main ship is just the best USTy build; I can't even.
[...] I'm super happy for her. I think she's a great writer, and that CP has helped her become a great writer--the writing and plotting gets better and better, especially after the first 8 chapters or so.

Depending on what she says about them (and how much I want to have a full matching set of covers), I may wind up buying the Penguin versions later.

If you're wavering - the paper versions are really nice. Mine came, the paper is good quality, the maps are super neat to have, I was home sick from work and read through both in a day. Good news: still totally awesome, and the rough bits where the style didn't jive at the beginning did seem to be smoothed over better.
