I've had this sitting on my computer for months. I realized I was never going to finish it and that it works as a stand alone, so I posted it: Five Times Steve Rogers Almost Got Beat Up, about the first five times Steve and Bucky met.

I wish there was somewhere I could post all my unfinished fic where I wouldn't feel like I was being, idk, rude for posting unfinished fic. People get so het up about reading unfinished fic and I don't want people to feel like they got short-changed. I just want to get it off my chest. Idk maybe I could post it here, since fewer people read fic on journaling sites these days.

Maybe tag it as unfinished and say that prominently in the notes? Then if anyone complains you can say 'look who didn't read the headers!'

You are right. However, I have had people not read headers before, and they were so upset that saying, "look who didn't read the headers!" didn't make me feel better. (This wasn't about an unfinished fic; it had to do with warnings, which I had placed very prominently, but not in the tags as I didn't know that was what people do now. I am old; I put warnings in the A/N.)

People announce "Fic Amnesty" posts all the time and do what you're suggesting. I think there are comms for that too.

And I may be an outlier, but I still prefer to read fic on Dreamwidth with AO3 as a backup.

GENERALLY, if you warn ppl it's unfinished that helps a lot. Reading the Archetypal Unfinished WiP is such a shock b/c you don't KNOW there's not going to be an end.

hm. Yes. It's hard for me to know what's legit. I mean, I'm sad when a fic I love isn't finished, but I don't get mad and really bent out of shape the way some people do, so I don't really know what'll make those people feel less offended. I guess I'll just warn a lot!

I know a few authors on ao3 who do a yearly fic dump of everything they know is never going to get fiinished. And then people can read or not at their own peril.

Its actually common for writers to post rough versions of epics they're writing, the new feedback helps inspire the muse to finish, or to go back and rewrite... or just gives fans of the stories hope...

I think its a good idea, if your up for it..
