"Catcher" definitely changes with age. When I read it, I identified with it so completely I used to have trouble understanding how anyone could not identify with it. Now that I'm a little older I see that Holden's state of mind has a lot more to do with age and social station than I was willing to previously consider.

Thank you. I feel like a bit of a poseur, though, as I've never read Melville. I'm just going on what I've read the book is about.
