And here's why Angel/Wes doesn't work if you stick to cannon. Through mid-season 2, Wes has a complete crush on Angel. Angel is not interested in Wes in that way (I never saw any evidence) but not only knows about Wes' feelings but is not beyond using them to get Wes to do whatever he wants. Yeah, I see Angel as a complete user in the relationship.
