What's a battle?

Did everyone else's journal just...change? Dramatically? Or is it a Flexible Squares thing? Or is it just me?

What the heezy is going on?

ETA: I'm a dumbass. This is SO cool. Thanks times a million, [livejournal.com profile] romanyg. That was completely unexpected and out of the blue and wow. No one's ever surprised me with a gift like that before. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Everyone else, back to life as usual.

I really am so completely lj illiterate! I've been pretty good at hiding the fact that I'm a relative newbie, but every once in a while a raw spot shows.

So, where do I start looking for headers? You make some awesome ones, and I'd try to steal one of yours, but I'm actually not sure I want mine to be Buffyverse...

Hm, you can search for communities that have header requests, the only place that I'm a member of is a btvs/ats related comm.

But I will be doing requests in a few weeks when I get some time, cuz I think Chris wants one too, so if you're interested I'll give you a heads up when I get the chance :)

Erm...what I meant was that I've seen comms that have header request post etc, I just hadn't joined. There are def communities out there, or you could just do a blanket request on your LJ *G*.

It's too bad, because you just missed header requests at my joint graphics comm [livejournal.com profile] _lushkink but maybe you could still trying asking ;)

Oooh, cool. I knew you had that comm but I haven't kept up with it because I'm not ze graphics girl and couldn't use many with a free account anyway. Like I said, I'm not sure I'd even want a fandom themed header if I got one.

And now for a stupid question...I searched all morning. How do you put a header on?

/omg colossal ignorance

Looks like you're using flexible squares, so try [livejournal.com profile] s2flexisquares that's what I've been using. There are a whole bunch of different tutorials with overrides and such to customize your header, most of them are pretty straight forward, just copy and paste the codes, but should you have any questions just go ahead and ask, they're very quick about answering questions.

It'll just be difficult to show you how to do it in one comment.

Try this (http://community.livejournal.com/s2flexisquares/130476.html) tutorial, although there are a few different ways of doing it.

Ok..sorry, I lied, you WERE using flexible squares..now you're not.

But um, I suggest you do a search for a community for your style, there are tons out there.

I disliked how in Flexible Squares, on the "recent entries" page, it shows an icon with every user post. Since I mostly only use this one, I have to look at this face over and over again if I use Flexible Squares and post with my signature icon. If I were more graphicsy I would use a different icon every time and it'd be no problem, but yeah, I'm not. So that's my long rambley story about why I'm no longer using Flexible Squares. This one was the only one I liked nearly as much as Squares, and you can only use it with a paid account, so I figured I'd take advantage of that.

Anyway, thanks sooo much for your help...I found a comm about my style and I'm sure it will be helpful. I'm not sure I'll actually bother with a header this time around because it looks like I'll have to read up a bunch on it and figure a bunch of stuff out, not to mention get a picture...If I did all that work I'd get attached to it and then be suckered in to paying for an account when I'm not sure I actually need one. But it's really really fun to play around with while I have it, and thanks so much for your help. I figure one day I'll eventually pay up and create a journal that's just how I want it, so this is an awesome experiment.

Well you don't have to, you can change that setting. You don't have to have your default icon on the page, nor do you have to post with one.

Ya, it seems overwhelming at first, but I learned and it's actually easier than you think. It's really fun coding and customizing :)
