My cat's breath smells like catfood. Caza and I say this all the time. That and versions of, "Oh. Maggie. Cute." Oh, and "Richard Dean Anderson will be in my dreams tonight." We really don't talk much without Simpsons, South Park and Buffy references. So much for that higher ed...

What are you like! tut.

well that's my poll virginity over

I refuse to take this poll.

South Park and Animaniacs are love. (The Heart of Darkness takeoff the Animaniacs did is SO the best thing ever.)

And that Britney Spears statue is a thing of terror, and I staunchly refuse to go see it. Even though part of me wants to, just to mock it. I am torn. /woe

I use Ralph quotes most often. That and, "Ah, my eyes! Zee goggles do nothing!" I actually haven't seen that much South Park, but the Crack Whore quote has always lived inside my mind. *cue Phantom*

Can't believe you've never taken a poll before!

Ticky boxes are the boxes you check with a checkmark. Sometimes people whine for them because you can click more than one to answer, whereas the round buttons you can only pick one.

It's actually the result of me trying to make a serious meta post about research and writing, wanting to put a poll at the end of it to ask how people use research for writing, and discovering that the "preview" option doesn't show polls, freaking out about my lack of polling ability, and going nuts with the poll mechanism.

It's kind of addictive, actually. Now I want to do a poll about how come you won't take my poll. ;o)

I think I didn't know The Heart of Darkness back when Anamanaics was on. I didn't get a lot of their parodies. But some things I always remember, like the WOULD YOU LIKE TO TAKE A SURVEY? thing.

It sure is scary. You are torn. TORN! Torn like an old shoe.

[identity profile] semby.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
This was fun and strange. Much like you.

[identity profile] amybnnyc.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I used to watch it after school, and we had just finished reading Heart of Darkness and had started watching Apocalypse Now when I saw the Animaniacs take for the first time. I still love it madly--oh! And the "name all the states to the tune of Turkey in the Straw" thing.

It's just that the gallery is close-enough-by--it's in my borough, and I could get there pretty easy after work on Friday, and part of me wants to point and laugh until I ache. But the rest of me is afraid of catching the crazy.

I think I was a bit young to have been reading Conrad.

The songs were ALL good! Lake Titicaca!

Ha! I'd go. I'd feel furtive and ashamed, but...pointing! Laughing! It's so fun!

But when in doubt, do a poll. That's my new motto.

What's the motto with you?

Oh, I'm so full of it tonight!

[identity profile] ely-jan.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
omg ticky!

*twitches*

[identity profile] amybnnyc.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Ohhh, Lake Titicaca. It was my friend Andy's favoritest word EVAR (well, Titicaca was), and he was so excited that he actually got to answer with it (and correctly, yet) in one of our Academic Bowl competitions. But he practically screamed it out in the middle of the auditorium, and the moderator looked all abashed, and everybody else there (like, 5 people because, hello, academic bowl) snickered and laughed. And so did we. /outing myself as a huge dork

[identity profile] ros-fod.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Heeeeeee. Oh, *serious*.

The meta post on research and writing sounds fab, actually. Although I'm afraid my answer will be predictable, like, "I totally freak about research, just like I totally freak out about sentence structure and I totally freak out about POV." Heh. You're talking about, "If you are writing about Xander in Kinshasa, what is the level of research you commit to? a) I learn to spell Kinshasa, b) I read the CIA Worldfactbook on Kinshasa, c) I fly to Kinshasa for 6 months and take copious notes"?

Hiya TKP! What did the original T.K.P. stand for? It used to be in your userinfo; now, alas, it is not.

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I was air quoting while typing serious. Seriously!

I totally freak out about POV. I was gonna do some posts on that; I have a really good essay by some writer guy on it. I also freak about word choice a lot (and was gonna post on that; I have so many meta posts waiting to happen it's not even funny). I've actually never freaked too hard about sentence structure. Great, now I want to have a good sentence structure discussion. It's something I rarely think about; I think because I am generally pleased with the rhythm of my sentences and thus the way they are structured. I wonder if that means I am complacent? I use too many semi-colons, for one thing.

Anyway, yes, that's kind of the thing I want to talk about as far as research goes; I wrote a bit about the kind of research I do and wanted to hear how it compares to what other people do. Now I want to steal your poll question!

lololololol! Best story ever! I would've screamed it, too. And I can't believe the moderator didn't know why he was yelling it. I mean, Lake. Titi. Caca. *is five years old forrr-EV-err.*
