As far as Buffy. I don't know that it reaffirmed anything for her. I don't think she would have leapt unless she was sure it was going to work, so slight revision from above. But I also think she was through. She would have kept going out a sense of duty but this was the perfect out for her.
I can go with that. I didn't really mean it made her want to live so much as it made her see that her death could make the world better for others. Where before she'd thought her job and life and the world had no justice, my thought is that she thought is was pointless--Dawn never COULD have the life Buffy was fighting for her to have. But when Buffy realized how she could close the portal, she realized it had all been worth it after all, and now was her time to prove it. She was happy with that, I think, but I think her death was hopeful--for Dawn, and for herself, for fulfilling her purpose in life.
