Questions Post #11

I have another batch of random questions.

General
Do you think Spike ever turned anybody?
Do you think Drusilla ever turned anyone except Spike?
Do you think Darla or Angel ever killed any Slayers?
Where did Gunn live in S2 of AtS?
Can anyone really explain why Buffy dying in "The Gift" made sense? Other than thematically, I mean.
What kind of music does Buffy like?
Doesn't Spike's duster look . . . too big on him, sometimes?
How come Angel's demon form can go out in the sunlight in Pylea? Wesley's explanation for Angel's human form withstanding sunlight is that the human aspects, like seeing his reflection etc are stronger, but then in demon form, shouldn't they be demon-y?
Is Pylea an alternate reality, like a world without shrimp? Or is it an alternate dimension? Is there a difference? Is there anything meta-cle about these terms and what they signify in Jossverse?

Season 6 of BtVS
Do Willow or Tara ever get a job?
Do Anya or Xander (or Willow or Tara) ever think to contribute anything to Buffy's money problems? I mean Willow (and Tara, before she moves out) is living in Buffy's house.
Did the Scoobies really not realize Buffy would come back to life in her grave?
Does anyone think the way they wrote Giles off the show was in character or well done?
Is it just me or do random references to Angel seem to increase in this season?
How does JM do that thing where he looks at SMG like he worships her with everything in him, without looking like a complete boob? Most people look like boobs when they do that. And not the good kind of boobs.
Why doesn't Giles reveal to the council that Buffy died? Isn't he aware that sooner or later everyone will find out? What does he seek to gain by hiding it? (I'm only asking about Giles because presumably you could say the Scoobies kept up the deception of the Buffybot because they thought they were bringing Buffy back anyway).
How come Amber Benson sings so well?
Why can't Spike decide how to fix his hair? Why can't Anya decide how to fix her hair?

Random
Who raised Bruce Wayne (after his parents died)? If it was Alfred, how did Alfred get custody?
Did you guys know Anthony Head is in the new Woody Allen movie (Scoop. I've seen two Woody Allen movies now. The first I despised and this one was really good! I loved Woody Allen in it; he was so endearing!)? Head has 2 lines, but Giles! OMG big-screen Giles!

You ponder the best stuff. I now have the urge to sit down and try and answer each and every single one of these. Even the rhetorial ones when you know that it's time to put the already answered question down and back away with it with your hands up.

I think with some of the things that were left hanging or didn't make sense the writers were busy brainstorming them and decided to go out for coffee, started talking about their action figure collections and came back forgetting what they were stuck on and just continued writing the next scene.

Big screen Giles?! I had no idea!

I agree, and that answers a lot of questions. I guess what I'm interested with that type of stuff is how to fanwank it so I feel better. I mean, for any question you can say, "because that's how the writers wrote it, for good or ill"--but once you're inside the 'verse and playing with it that's kind of jarring to hear. Kind of like how some people are so shocked to hear that even if they DID write it that way, Spike is actually not a girl and Xander's penis is magical but not rainbow colored; it's like the real world intruding and making itself known and we can't have that in our rainbow penis universe; in fact I'm going to get riled up at you for applying logic and sense; how can you say such mean things to me when I've never done anything to you except accuse your extended family of catporn that one time?

Yeah, big screen Giles! For perhaps two minutes. I almost peed my pants it was so exciting.

[identity profile] jgracio.livejournal.com 2006-08-01 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
1) Yup, but only when Dru let him. Maybe Ford was him, maybe not.

2) Yes, Sheila didn't turn herself.

3) Nope, don't think so.

4) On the streets or something. In his car. He's got skills.

5) I don't really think so, not unless the monks spell also changed Buffy.

6) Depends on the Season, goes all the way from pop to military marching tunes.

7) *Shrugs*

8) It's another sun, the metaphysical properties for it to burn vampires don't exist there.

9) Alternate dimension, one with different basic properties from our own. Don't think Joss ever cared to even define the terms in regards to Buffy.

10) Nope.

11) I'm unsure if Xander ever helps with money, besides helping with the whole burst pipes thing. Anya wouldn't, not in character for her. Willow and Tara don't help, at least there's no reference to their helping.

12) Yes, they don't really think about it. Because they're characters and there was a need to maximize trauma to Buffy. :)

13) You I think.

14) If I knew I'd be an actor. :)

15) Hum, because they'd kill or release Faith?

16) She's a mutant, song is one of her powers. :)

17) Something meta about how those characters can't decide what they want to be, blah blah blah, eye candy for each gender I think. :)

18) It's Gotham, he greased someone's palm to get custody!

19) Didn't know that.

20) So they can bury them?

Totally forgot about Ford and Sheila. D'oh.

Alternate dimension, one with different basic properties from our own. Don't think Joss ever cared to even define the terms in regards to Buffy.

What I don't like is stuff like Pylea is just kind of there. In something like Stargate, alternate dimensions are integral to the 'verse. In Buffyverse, there's all this alternate world stuff without there being any even half-assed attempt to explain their relation to Earth, reality, and now. I'd even be happier if the attempt was made and it didn't make sense.

Yes, they don't really think about it. Because they're characters and there was a need to maximize trauma to Buffy. :)

Figured that was the reason.

You I think.

No way. Definitely not I. I doubt even the writers thought it was a decent explanation, which is why I don't understand why they didn't think of something better.

Hum, because they'd kill or release Faith?

I thought about that, but as I said, the truth would come out sooner or later. Buffy is DEAD; Giles doesn't think that's going to unhappen. If he's worried about the consequences with Faith, why isn't he trying to work out a solution?

Something meta about how those characters can't decide what they want to be,

I rather like that insight as regards Spike.

It's Gotham, he greased someone's palm to get custody!

I suppose the Waynes could've left Alfred a lot of money.

Thanks for your answers!

Ho ho. I've pondered most of these at one time or another, especially Giles' bizarre departure from S6 and JM's amazing non-boob acting ability (and yes, the duster is toooo big). I also think I missed the bit where the monk tells Buffy that Dawn is made from her blood, so when Buffy goes on about 'Summers' blood', I was utterly confused. And Willow and Tara are too busy with the spreading beneath the Willow tree to get their hands dirty. Plus, they're students and therefore exempt from anything but pot-smoking.
PS meant to say, your pics of the lake were beautiful.

Just the logic doesn't make sense with the key and blood thing. Seems like with just a bit more tweaking it could've made more sense.

I think Willow and Tara's hands were dirty a time or two ;o)

And thank you!

Can anyone really explain why Buffy dying in "The Gift" made sense?

I didn't get the heroic thing at all at first re: that. She practically COMMITTED SUICIDE. I know that it was to save the world etc. but she just looked so darn happy about it. Her life was really going to shit.

She also loved being dead.

All signs point, imho obviously, that Buffy committed suicide - not only to save the world, but every other reason! That makes more sense to me, at least.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-08-01 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I meant more from a logistical standpoint, that is, how did Buffy dying close the portal, not why'd she kill herself.

I don't know. I feel like Spike would say she wanted to commit suicide--he's really on about that darkness inside of her, her wanting death, embracing it. But he wouldn't get that Buffy never would've done it if she wasn't sure it'd save the world. That is, the only reason she did it was to save the world; no matter how many other factors might've tempted her, she would never've given into them.

The reason she looks happy, imo, is yeah, maybe relief, but not so much because she gets to die as because she thinks she's finally doing the right thing. All of S5 she couldn't win, couldn't defeat Glory, couldn't save Dawn, couldn't do the One Thing In All The World Only She Could Do. And she's confused that the world has no answers, that she could suffer everything she's suffered to save the world and still not save it anyway. But at the end she figures out how to save it; she finds her answer; her faith in the world is restored in a way, her faith in LIFE is restored in a way, and she tells Dawn that. That she has to die to get there is a price she's willing to pay to make the world a fair place for Dawn.

Oooh, from general: I KNOW Spike turned someone: that weird guy Buffy knew from LA that wanted (with Anne Blondey Big Hips) to be "the lonely ones."

I don't think Angelus or Darla killed a slayer - it would have been mentioned. They liked to prey on the weak. Spike had a chip on his shoulder (little man complex) and needed to pick on the biggest kid on the playground.

Buffy likes happy Euro-techno-pop. And sweeping love songs. But not Mannilo, and mocked Angel mercilessly for that.

Random question back: Does ANYONE BUT ME notice that SMG turns and swings her arms, making her look like those prayer drums in Karate Kid 2? It DRIVES ME NUTS. With the CONSTANT arm flinging.

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-08-01 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You think Anne has big hips? They're shaped weird, I guess. Weirdly long.

Huh. I never much thought about Angelus and Darla preferring to prey on the weak. Certainly Drusilla was weak and Liam was weak. Huh.

I noticed the arm swinging thing, but only sometimes. You're right, sometimes it's really crazy making. I never saw Karate Kid 2. Or 1.

General
Do you think Spike ever turned anybody?

yes. He did it for kicks and never stuck around to mentor them.

Do you think Drusilla ever turned anyone except Spike?

no. Neith Angel, Darla or Soike would let her.

Do you think Darla or Angel ever killed any Slayers?

No way. Darla had a make no waves policy and she passed it to Angel. Plus he was all about the emotional wreckage and considering the slayer is supposed to be without family or firends, what fun would that be? Didn't you read my story "Called", missy?

Where did Gunn live in S2 of AtS?

in the batcave.

Can anyone really explain why Buffy dying in "The Gift" made sense? Other than thematically, I mean.

Right before she jumps, she has an epiphany and realizes her death will close the portal same as Dawn's would. At the same time, I don't think she entirely cares. If she was convinced it wouldn't work, then she wouldn't have jumped, but since she has the idea it might, she's more than happy to kill herself. It's as much a suicide leap as a heroic gesture.

What kind of music does Buffy like?

pop. angsy girl stuff (Sara Mclaren type.). Club/House but not to buy, just to dance to.

Doesn't Spike's duster look . . . too big on him, sometimes?

It is too big on him. He;'s a wee little thing and Nikki was a tall woman. Also, this serves as a constant visual reminder that this was stolen from a woman he murdered.

How come Angel's demon form can go out in the sunlight in Pylea? Wesley's explanation for Angel's human form withstanding sunlight is that the human aspects, like seeing his reflection etc are stronger, but then in demon form, shouldn't they be demon-y?

one has nothing to do with the other. Whatever causes him to poof on Earth isn't present on Pylea. It's like that whole red sun vs yellow sun for Superman.

Is Pylea an alternate reality, like a world without shrimp? Or is it an alternate dimension? Is there a difference? Is there anything meta-cle about these terms and what they signify in Jossverse?

Alternate reality is a parallel universe. It's a copy of Earth except one thing has changed (which sometimes leads to massive differences) like the Wishverse. Alternate dimension is just another world period. Like Mars. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

no. Neith Angel, Darla or Soike would let her.

What about after she left Spike?

Didn't you read my story "Called", missy?

I forgot it's almost canon! ;o)

I'm not sure I agree. I think the reason she jumped was because she thought it would work. There might've been other reasons she'd thought of suicide before, other reasons that made her glad to do it, but I think the ONLY REASON she actually did do it was to save the world. I think when she realized that that was the solution to finally saving her sister, she realized that the world was not against her: it had not made her the One Girl In All The World to solve an unsolvable problem; in fact the very nature of her Slayerness was the solution. I think that was very life affirming for Buffy, in a twisted kind of way--she saw that the world has its injustices but it has its justice too. People like her suffer so that people like Dawn and Xander can live. And to her, that's worth it.

Alternate reality is a parallel universe. It's a copy of Earth except one thing has changed (which sometimes leads to massive differences) like the Wishverse. Alternate dimension is just another world period. Like Mars. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I was just thinking: when does a copy get made, in a parallel universe? What some time after the Big Bang one little change was made, changing the dust and stuff that later becomes Earth into a planet with two suns. Because of the suns everything is different, and there are green people and drokkens and horses and everyone speaks English? Such that Pylea is really just a parallel universe too? It just bugs me.

Alfred raised Bruce until Bruce went away to Princeton.

Bruce's parents made Alfred Bruce's guardian.

Season 6 of BtVS
Do Willow or Tara ever get a job?

It's impossible to say. The test doesn't indicate either way.

Do Anya or Xander (or Willow or Tara) ever think to contribute anything to Buffy's money problems? I mean Willow (and Tara, before she moves out) is living in Buffy's house.

Again the text doesn't indicate one way or another. I suspect the writers were thinking in terms of "let's make Buffy's life as miserable as possible" without giving one thought to whether it made any sense character wise or what it said about her friends. They could have easily shown Willow giving some money and Buffy letting musing that it still isn't enough.

Did the Scoobies really not realize Buffy would come back to life in her grave?

I think they were so shocked by how the spell progressed and then, the fact that it was interupted in the middle, I suspect they thought it didn't work.

Does anyone think the way they wrote Giles off the show was in character or well done?

No, but I fanwank it as that he finds it impossible to explain his real reason which are twofold. First, while most people go on about Giles being a father figure to the scoobies, it always seemed to me that Giles really resented that and had no desire to be one. And being sadlled with Dawn, especially with Buffy now back wasn't something he wanted to encourage. Two, and more importantly, he couldn't bear to watch Buffy die again. He could no longer pretend she wouldn't, it was made plain in the most blunt way possible. He couldn't do it again.

Is it just me or do random references to Angel seem to increase in this season?

Do they? Do tell, cause offhand I don't remember aside from the offscreen meeting. And the really lame "vampire with a soul" joke in Tabula Rasa.

How does JM do that thing where he looks at SMG like he worships her with everything in him, without looking like a complete boob? Most people look like boobs when they do that. And not the good kind of boobs.

He's very good at acting just with expressions alone.

I think at this point Giles isn't thinking completely straight and also he no longer shares with the council.

How come Amber Benson sings so well?

Someone has to.

Why can't Spike decide how to fix his hair? Why can't Anya decide how to fix her hair?

Only their hairdressers know for sure. Anya is likely looking for the perfect do that will solve all her other issues.

They could have easily shown Willow giving some money and Buffy letting musing that it still isn't enough.

I think so too. There just seems like a lot of loose threads in S6 that deal with Scoobs behaving OOC.

I think they were so shocked by how the spell progressed and then, the fact that it was interupted in the middle, I suspect they thought it didn't work.

Completely agree that they thought it didn't work, but . . . there were no shovels. Also, if the spell was to make her alive, they should've dug her up before starting the spell.

No, but I fanwank it as that he finds it impossible to explain his real reason which are twofold. First, while most people go on about Giles being a father figure to the scoobies, it always seemed to me that Giles really resented that and had no desire to be one. I like that fanwank. Makes me think a little less of Giles but in a good way. He has selfish needs too, I think. I want to write an alternate S6.

Do they? Do tell, cause offhand I don't remember aside from the offscreen meeting.

After Life:

WILLOW: When Angel came back ... Buffy said ... he was wild. Like an animal.

**************

Flooded:

WILLOW: I slept with Riley.

BUFFY: And you know I really doubt it.

WILLOW: Caught me. Big fib. To ... cover up the sleazy affair I had with Angel.

***********

Wrecked:

BUFFY: *A* vampire got me hot. One. But he's gone. You're just...

And Tabula Rasa. So far that's all I got but I'm only halfway through. It just seemed...I dunno. Usually there's a reference here n' there but they seemed to mention him casually more in this than in S5 and even S4.

Anya is likely looking for the perfect do that will solve all her other issues.

Ha! I'll buy that.

General:
- um I guess? I'm sure Angel got first picking when they were all evil. He'd been evil for 140 odd years, I'm sure he's bound to pile up the undead.
- I think she's a different story, she turns them for a specific reason, she doesn't necessarily go out hunting, but maybe she did when Spike went all slayer whipped.
- Yes, definitely. But I think Spike's are only mentioned because of his obsession with them. After he kills the Chinese slayer, Angel then says "Join the club". Or it could be him just showing Spike the big cahones lol. But I think they have.
- On a box on the street...
- Erm...I'm drawing a blank...cuz the portal made pretty colours? I guess if there ever was a way for Buffy to go, it'd be like that. Heroic, selfless and in the name of love.
- Rock. Nothing poppy. Probably electronica too.
- Always.
- They explained something about the two suns and the different dimension. I dunno I hated the Pylea arc.
- I think it's dimension. It's a demon dimension, isn't that what they call it? Not a "demon reality" right?

Season 6:
- nope, willow could disappear and I wouldn't care. She bugged me in s6. All whining and not helping Buffy out in any financial way.
- None. None at all. Xander at least helped out around the house, sort of took the whole father duty, driving Dawn to school etc. They wouldn't have sucked out all her money on food if htey actually HAD jobs. I mean what would they have done if Buffy HADN'T come back? Sit on their asses all day?
- Giles wasn't in S6. It was some pod!Giles.
- Um..no comment because I really dont' see it that way :P
- I can't even explain any of Giles actions because it angers me. My poor Giles all character assasinatey.
- Amber definitely has some pipes the Giles/Tara duo is one of my fave songs on the OMWF.
- *stares*

Random:
-They left everything to Alfred, every was in his care until Bruce came of age I believe.
- Nope, have to check it out I guess.
- Er...I'm not an antomologist so..

but maybe she did when Spike went all slayer whipped.

I can see that.

I hated Pylea too. There's some cool stuff in it--Cordy dealing with vision issues, Wesley coming into his own, Fred, Angel dealing with demon issues, but the way that's all handled so goofily turns me off for the most part.

nope, willow could disappear and I wouldn't care. She bugged me in s6. All whining and not helping Buffy out in any financial way.

I can see that. I continue to love her; I like the way her problems parallel Buffy's and how both of them are falling apart and they don't notice that happening in each other, and no one else around them does, either.

Giles wasn't in S6. It was some pod!Giles.

Reasonable explanation, actually.

I can't even explain any of Giles actions because it angers me. My poor Giles all character assasinatey.

Everyone always talks about the massacre of Cordelia, but she DID have an arc throughout S1-2 of AtS that was about her mellowing out, becoming less selfish, becoming more caring for other people--I just think the jump between that Cordy and the Cordy somewhere in S3 is whacked out. But although Giles had some "I might have to leave" issues in S5, S5 was all about how much Buffy needs him, and he realized that. Shit, his last line in S5 was about how he can do the things Buffy can't. Then he ups and leaves her? There's NO lead up to that, none, it's not a jump from what he was before because that implies a connection, implies it's the same person, and just ugh!

the Giles/Tara duo is one of my fave songs on the OMWF.

I agree. But then I reconsider and admit that all of them are my favorite songs.

antomologist

Is that really a word?

Alfred was listed in the Wayne will. Leslie, a doctor and family friend, also helped out. (She's also Alfred's crush.)

No I didn't. You need to see the following Woody movies: Annie Hall, Hannah and her Sisters, Love and Death, Crimes and Misdemeanors and Sleeper because it's ridiculous (although dated. Sadly, no one knows who Albert Shanker is anymore.)

Do you think Darla or Angel ever killed any Slayers?

And were just really mum about it while Spike went on and on? Possible, but... seems unlikely. They probably just didn't care enough to.

Can anyone really explain why Buffy dying in "The Gift" made sense? Other than thematically, I mean.

No. Ded is cool.

What kind of music does Buffy like?

Probably nothing I like. I've always assumed it was girly radio crap. Ooh, she totally has the soundtrack to City of Angels.

Doesn't Spike's duster look . . . too big on him, sometimes?

Yeah, and there's no way Nikki's got bigger shoulders, right?

Do Willow or Tara ever get a job?
Do Anya or Xander (or Willow or Tara) ever think to contribute anything to Buffy's money problems? I mean Willow (and Tara, before she moves out) is living in Buffy's house.

These questions, combined, are a large blight on the Sunnydale goings-on. Seriously, it's like they didn't want to address this. Just like Buffy is required to work in fast food; why? Is this, really, the only job she can get? Really? And can she support a household with Doublemeat pay?

Did the Scoobies really not realize Buffy would come back to life in her grave?

I hate these questions, because they're the kind that can't be answered diagetically. It's always "the writer was lazy." And yeah, it's jarring to say that when you're looking inside canon, but what explanation for any of this would make it better?

Does anyone think the way they wrote Giles off the show was in character or well done?

*snort*

How does JM do that thing where he looks at SMG like he worships her with everything in him, without looking like a complete boob? Most people look like boobs when they do that. And not the good kind of boobs.

I'm with you there. His close-ups are some of the best stuff on that show. He emotes like crazy with just one look, and I don't know how he does it, and it's *not* due just to hormones that I'm saying this. The PAIN he can give off is crazy, and I don't know how he does it.

Good question. Because you'd think someone would be concerned about how Faith is in jail and Buffy's dead and there's no slayer. He probably wanted to keep drawing his pay. Giles is stingy like that.

How come Amber Benson sings so well?

Because, like Tara, she's gorgeous but misused and hidden for great lengths of time. Second time through the series, Tara was a revelation for me.

Why can't Spike decide how to fix his hair? Why can't Anya decide how to fix her hair?

Because the creators can't figure out whether they want us to like either of these characters or not. Make them wishy-washy; then it can go either way.

Random
Who raised Bruce Wayne (after his parents died)? If it was Alfred, how did Alfred get custody?

The bats!

Didn't know that, haven't seen it yet, but looks great and will do.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!! *deep breath* HAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!! I own the soundtrack to City of Angels.

It's always "the writer was lazy." And yeah, it's jarring to say that when you're looking inside canon, but what explanation for any of this would make it better?

I know what you mean, but sometimes, people do have some interesting fanwanks. So I figure I'll ask and maybe someone will make up something that'll make it fit better in my head. ;o)

I'm with you there. His close-ups are some of the best stuff on that show. He emotes like crazy with just one look, and I don't know how he does it, and it's *not* due just to hormones that I'm saying this. The PAIN he can give off is crazy, and I don't know how he does it.

Dude, I know. It's so fucking awesome, too. I mean, you know I'm not a B/S shipper, and definitely not someone who'd ever say Buffy mistreated poor Spikey-wikey and why wasn't she nicer to him? But seriously, every time she hurts his feelings I flinch. I feel it. He's so damn good. And today my family and I were watching an ep, and there was a really close shot where his face filled the whole screen, and TKMom just busts out, "Lord is he pretty." Oh, yeah.

like Tara, she's gorgeous but misused

You thought AB was misused? I thought her character could've been fleshed out better, and that some of her chemistry with AH was ...of sometimes, but AB brought such depth to the role I was in love with Tara from the very first stutter. She's so...I just love her.

Because the creators can't figure out whether they want us to like either of these characters or not.

Dude! So true!

The bats!

Bahahahaha!

Didn't know that, haven't seen it yet, but looks great and will do.

Highly recommended.

TO EAT THEM.

Or, you know, for religious ceremonies. Maybe they eat them for religious ceremonies?

I always seem to be late to these things, but since I *did* research ants the other day when I said I would (*G*), I can tell you that a common theory is that they take away the decaying body because it's on their territory and they worry it'll spread diseases among the rest of them. Smart little guys, really, if that's true. But it's not a noble sense of brotherhood, sadly.

That's so interesting. I never would've thought of that. I mean, I wonder if they KNOW that's why they do it? Wouldn't it feel kinda weird to be carrying dead members of your species around if you didn't know? Like if I went outside and saw a dead guy and thought, hey, best get him off my property. Huh.

I'm glad you looked it up!

Who the heck was talking about the Alfred Hitchcock quote about "purposeful viewers" today? Help me out [livejournal.com profile] a2zmom, because clearly it applies to what I'm about to complain about--

The thing that always bugged me about Buffy standing in for Dawn to close the portal is this-- clearly, not all of Dawn's blood has to stop flowing for the portal to close if Buffy can sub in for her. So why not have Spike take some Summers blood and sub for everyone? It's not like the fall would kill him.

And yes, I know that wasn't the theme but they should have come up with a better reason why Buffy could sub and no one else could. It was a ridiculous, sloppy premise and I am so thankful it wasn't the end of the series.

Also, the blood has to stop, not jump. Presumably a vamp has no circulation so if Spike drank Summers blood it would stop. But it would've been pretty painful for Spike. They should've just used a needle.

It does really bug me, because it makes Buffy's death seem kinda pointless, when it was supposed to be a big heroic act.

Do you think Spike ever turned anybody?

We know he did while under the First's influence, but other than that, no. I see him wanting absolutely no competition for Dru's attentions.

Do you think Drusilla ever turned anyone except Spike?

Sheila and Darla, definitely. Aside from that, I think she vamped a lot of people, especially after Spike left because of her constant desire for a family. Also, it would have been neat it she turned VampWillow back in the Wish.

Do you think Darla or Angel ever killed any Slayers?

No. Not idealistic enough.

Where did Gunn live in S2 of AtS?

Hmm. Probably still with his gang.

Can anyone really explain why Buffy dying in "The Gift" made sense? Other than thematically, I mean.

Apparently, blood is blood to a big gaping hole into hell. Dawn and Buffy were genetically identical since the monks made them from her (how I don't know). Hence, the bghih though it was munching on Dawn and collapsed.

<b.What kind of music does Buffy like?

Pop.

Doesn't Spike's duster look . . . too big on him, sometimes?

Nope. :)

How come Angel's demon form can go out in the sunlight in Pylea?

I went to the old "it's a different kind of sun" place, kind of like Superman with the yellow sun here v. the red sun on Krypton where he would have been normal. Pylean sun apparently doesn't fry a vampire.

Is Pylea an alternate reality, like a world without shrimp? Or is it an alternate dimension?

To me, an alternate reality is the current reality but with differences caused through additions or subtractions in canon, and the ripple-effect they cause, such as the reality the characters accept of Dawn always having been there. An alternate dimension is a different place entirely, like Pylea or the hell dimension Connor grew up in.

Season 6 of BtVS

Do Willow or Tara ever get a job?

Nope. I assume Crack!Willow was getting money by conjuring it, though.

Do Anya or Xander (or Willow or Tara) ever think to contribute anything to Buffy's money problems? I mean Willow (and Tara, before she moves out) is living in Buffy's house.

Nope. They just complain about Buffy's lack of initiative while living off their own parents, which is pretty selfish, really, and rather out of character, which is problem #32121554 with seasons 6 and 7.

Did the Scoobies really not realize Buffy would come back to life in her grave?

I actually liked that bit of lack of forethought. They weren't giving anything else any pre-thought either, like what kind of condition she'd be in, what the ramifications were for breaking the laws of nature, whether or not she was even in hell in the first place, etc. It just showed how incredibly unthinking they were being.

Does anyone think the way they wrote Giles off the show was in character or well done?

Not I.

Is it just me or do random references to Angel seem to increase in this season?

Eh, I thought they increased more in season 7.

How does JM do that thing where he looks at SMG like he worships her with everything in him, without looking like a complete boob?

Because he buys it. Most actors who wind up looking that way at people are quietly thinking "I need lunch" or "I would never, ever do this." In real life, people who do that usually are being either naieve idiots or pretending. JM actually tries to recreate somebody who worships someone.

Why doesn't Giles reveal to the council that Buffy died? Isn't he aware that sooner or later everyone will find out? What does he seek to gain by hiding it?

Possibly because he still wants his salary, but that doesn't seem like Giles. Maybe because he doesn't want them to break Faith out of jail to be their new Slayer.

How come Amber Benson sings so well?

Just does.

Why can't Spike decide how to fix his hair? Why can't Anya decide how to fix her hair?

Eh, Spike's hair is pretty close to the same for four years. Playing a bit in season 6 and 7 isn't all that much. Anya, on the other hand, went through every color Miss Clairol had except white and black. I figured it was just their way of showing she wants to get the most out of her mortal life that she can.

I've never thought about it, but my guess is his legal guardian was some distant, wealthy relative who couldn't be bothered with him while Alfred did all the real raising.

I think lots of these have already been given really good answers. I'll just give my $0.02 where I think I have something to add.

Did the Scoobies really not realize Buffy would come back to life in her grave?

Since the Urn of Whatever (I forget the real name) was broken in the middle of the ceremony I definitely think they all thought it wasn't going to work. But I do know that they didn't bring shovels, or at least we didn't see them bring shovels to the party. So I can't answer whether they gave enough thought to this question.

How does JM do that thing where he looks at SMG like he worships her with everything in him, without looking like a complete boob?

I don't follow a lot of information about the actors, especially JM because he does kind of squick me, but I have read that he is a method actor. From what little I know about method acting it is extremely intense. I've heard that during season 6 he says he was so immersed in the role that he lost quite a bit of weight just from the psychological effects. That could just be PR, who knows.

Why doesn't Giles reveal to the council that Buffy died? Isn't he aware that sooner or later everyone will find out?

It does seem stupid. But I'm remembering episodes like Checkpoint where although Giles is reinstated as a Watcher, it's clear that he doesn't trust the Council as far as he can collectively throw them. If I were going to fanwank this, I would say something like this: Giles was afraid that the Council would send an assassin after Faith in prison in order to get a new Slayer. Delaying an announcement to the Council meant he had time to form an alternate plan. Now what the alternate plan would be... my powers of invention have run out.

But I do know that they didn't bring shovels, or at least we didn't see them bring shovels to the party.

I think they thought it didn't work too; it was more the why no shovels? business I was after. If they thought the spell would work at ALL, they shoulda dug her up BEFORE they started!

I've heard that during season 6 he says he was so immersed in the role that he lost quite a bit of weight just from the psychological effects.

I wouldn't be surprise. He had a pretty intense role there, a really hard part to play. And he does do an astounding job at it.

Giles was afraid that the Council would send an assassin after Faith in prison in order to get a new Slayer. Delaying an announcement to the Council meant he had time to form an alternate plan.

I'd considered that Giles was afraid they'd either murder Faith...or release her. I do think he might consider delaying in telling the Council for that reason, but he never seemed to be thinking of an alternate plan. He didn't seem to think of anyone but himself. I'd really like to do an alternate S6 in which Faith is there, and it ends up B/F rather than so much B/S. Seems like the whole Giles being concerned about what the Council is going to do with her could work into that...

Thanks for your answers!

Why doesn't Giles reveal to the council that Buffy died? Isn't he aware that sooner or later everyone will find out? What does he seek to gain by hiding it?

Because while Buffy is alive he gets paid by the Council; if she's dead then he doesn't. And when he abandoned Sunnydale and went home he couldn't tell them because they'd find out he'd been taking their pay under false pretenses for somtething approaching 147 days.

1. Of course. We saw him turn his mother, and a dozen people in S7, under the influence of the First. (I think he turned Sheila in S2, though I admit that's wankable.) I would not be at all surprised if he turned random minions over the years. Given his experience with his mother, I think he'd be very unlikely to turn someone he cared about, lest it go boom.
2. We saw her turn Darla, and if Spike didn't turn Sheila, then Dru probably did. I'm sure she, too, turned various toys and minions over the years.
3. No. (Though granted, there must be lots of vampires who've killed one Slayer.) One of my pet peeves is fic that gives Angelus a higher Slayer-kill total than Spike.
4. In the hood, man! You know! THE HOOD!
5. Buffy's death subbing in for Dawn's is based on the principles of sympathetic magic. Unfortunately, they failed to explain the principles of sympathetic magic on the show. http://www.bartleby.com/196/5.html for an overview.
6. Often. But SO WHAT?!?!?!?!
7. Possibly, but then they'd have to use those yucky blue filters.
8. Since Pylea has two suns, I think it's another planet in another solar system rather than an alternate version of Earth. It might also be in an alternate dimension.

Yes, everyone seems to forget that Willow and Tara took care of Dawn when Buffy died. They kept the house and everything so it would seem that yes they do have a job. They lived in the house and given how that usually goes with housemates they would help pay rent, utilities and the like. How many times do you talk about the rent or whatever when vampires are attacking. Xander was always fixing things around the house. I always hate that question because it makes the assumption that Buffy is such a wimp that she would let people freeload and that Willow and Tara are so inconsisterate that they would freeload.

Yes, everyone seems to forget that Willow and Tara took care of Dawn when Buffy died. They kept the house and everything so it would seem that yes they do have a job.

Well, actually, they were using Mrs. Summers' life insurance money. In "Flooded", Buffy says, "It turns out ... Mom left me some, and while I was dead, it got squandered on luxuries like ... food and clothing." While I'm sure Willow, Tara, and Anya (who was probably the one handling the finances) were careful about how they spent the insurance money and Buffy's inheritance, it seems obvious they were using Buffy's money to pay for the house and Dawn's expenses, so no, it's not obvious that Willow or Tara have a job. And as well they should use Buffy's money to support Buffy's house and Buffy's sister, but since they are living there, and since they are responsible for Buffy's life (they brought her back), seem like they should pitch in some.

How many times do you talk about the rent or whatever when vampires are attacking.

Hardly ever before S6, but money is a major theme in this season. "Flooded" is all about money; "Life Serial" is all about money; "Doublemeat Palace" is all about money. They seem to talk about it quite a lot.

I'm not sure Buffy would let people freeload, and not sure Tara or Willow would do so, but I was just wondering if there was anything a little more explicit in the text that I missed that hinted that yes, they were helping out. But so far from what I can tell, there was no such explicit hint, or even implication that Willow and Tara were contributing, when it would've just taken a line or two on the part of the writers to fix that fault in characterization you've point out right up.

Do you think Spike ever turned anybody?

Yeah. There was that whole bunch of 'em in Season 7. Had himself a wee little army of 'em.

Can anyone really explain why Buffy dying in "The Gift" made sense? Other than thematically, I mean.

Totally made sense. They couldn't have explained her bitchiness otherwise. She needed an excuse, yo. (Bitter? Me? Naaaah.)

Doesn't Spike's duster look . . . too big on him, sometimes?

Looks like he's dressing in Daddy's clothes. Which is just scary thinking about the chick he took the coat from. LOL!

Is Pylea an alternate reality, like a world without shrimp? Or is it an alternate dimension? Is there a difference? Is there anything meta-cle about these terms and what they signify in Jossverse?

Dude, this is so one of those questions I can't possibly answer objectively. I just read entirely too much fanfic. That fic "Quantum Xander" had some good explanations for all that. What was it again? Alternate Dimension is on a different vertical level (Pylea). Alternate Reality is on the same horizontal level, like the reality where Buffy doesn't exist and Spike and Xander get it on in the Library... or something.

Do Willow or Tara ever get a job?

Another one of those fanfic question things. I could swear that Tara either works in a coffee shop, or a bookstore. And Willow like owns her own computer whiz business or something. Either that or they own Giles shop together. *gr*

Do Anya or Xander (or Willow or Tara) ever think to contribute anything to Buffy's money problems? I mean Willow (and Tara, before she moves out) is living in Buffy's house.

I honestly always suspected that it was Xander who was supporting the entire lot of 'em. Cuz you know, he was a foreman at his construction job... right? (or is that one of those fanfic things again?) *gr*

Did the Scoobies really not realize Buffy would come back to life in her grave?

Honest answer? I don't think they realized she'd come back at all. They probably assumed the spell was interrupted and wouldn't have worked at all... like some of Willow's past fails. Smartass answer? No, because Xander had a Twinkie attack.

Is it just me or do random references to Angel seem to increase in this season?

...really? *goes back to check* I never noticed. Too busy checking out Spike's ass... or at least wishing I could see it. "No, no, no! Go to the left! Pan down!" Damnit.

Quite honestly, that entire plot didn't make a lick of sense to me. I don't get how they could have gotten away with hiding she was dead in the first place (Hello, Dawn?). But then they go and bring her back like it's nothing? It was just weird. They had explanations, but they fell a little short to me.

Giles! OMG big-screen Giles!

*bouncebouncebounce* I saw that! There was a trailer. I called my Mom at work, "Mom! Giles on the big screen!" ::giggles::

Yeah. There was that whole bunch of 'em in Season 7. Had himself a wee little army of 'em.

Plus Shiela and Ford. Really should've researched better before I asked that question, huh.

Looks like he's dressing in Daddy's clothes. Which is just scary thinking about the chick he took the coat from. LOL!

And I really don't think Niki Wood looks bigger than him. Part of it is the cut of the coat, I think.

Ha! Well, the reason I'm asking is for fic purposes. I want to be able to talk about the difference between the two without it being stupid. The idea of vertical and horizontal planes of existence is an interesting way to explain it.

Either that or they own Giles shop together. *gr*

Anya would have a fit.

I honestly always suspected that it was Xander who was supporting the entire lot of 'em. Cuz you know, he was a foreman at his construction job... right? (or is that one of those fanfic things again?) *gr*

He was a foreman, but he and Anya had to pay for his apartment, car, and wedding. I doubt he could support Buffy's house, Dawn, and Buffy on that. Which is why Buffy has to get a job. . . but you'd think if Willow and Tara had jobs, and they contributed a bit, things might not be so bleak as they truly seem that season.

"No, no, no! Go to the left! Pan down!" Damnit.

That never works. Sadly.

*bouncebouncebounce* I saw that! There was a trailer. I called my Mom at work, "Mom! Giles on the big screen!" ::giggles::

It really is only for like 2 minutes, but lord, WORTH IT.

Makes ya' wonder what they do with their dead brethren, don't it? *ponders*

Necrophilia is always an option.

General
Do you think Spike ever turned anybody? Do you think Drusilla ever turned anyone except Spike?
It's always kind of bothered me that going by the named vamps turning rates just don't seem often enough to account for the numbers that routinely rise every patrol night in Sunnydale.

Do you think Darla or Angel ever killed any Slayers?
Not their style.

Where did Gunn live in S2 of AtS?
Wherever he laid his hat. Does Gunn have a hat?

Can anyone really explain why Buffy dying in "The Gift" made sense? Other than thematically, I mean.
Badly written prophecy thingy:

"The blood flows, the gates will open. The gates will close when it flows no more." When Dawn is dead.

The first sentence is quite literal (Giles doesn't need to bother explaining it) but in the second "flows no more" is metaphorical fancy talk for death. So to open the portals Dawn's blood must be literally her blood but to close them metaphorical is sufficient and metaphorically Buffy and Dawn Summers are both of one blood.

What kind of music does Buffy like?
Dancey

Doesn't Spike's duster look . . . too big on him, sometimes?
Always

How come Angel's demon form can go out in the sunlight in Pylea? Wesley's explanation for Angel's human form withstanding sunlight is that the human aspects, like seeing his reflection etc are stronger, but then in demon form, shouldn't they be demon-y?Is Pylea an alternate reality, like a world without shrimp? Or is it an alternate dimension? Is there a difference? Is there anything meta-cle about these terms and what they signify in Jossverse?
Different dimension different spectrum of sunlight.

Season 6 of BtVS
Do Willow or Tara ever get a job? Do Anya or Xander (or Willow or Tara) ever think to contribute anything to Buffy's money problems? I mean Willow (and Tara, before she moves out) is living in Buffy's house.
If they did it wasn't enough. I thought the main reason Buffy got a job was to convince the authorities that she wasn't an unfit slacker guardian.

Did the Scoobies really not realize Buffy would come back to life in her grave?
I think they expected Osiris to do that for them but they got interrupted.

Does anyone think the way they wrote Giles off the show was in character or well done?
As well done as Angel or Riley leaving, none of them were honest about all their reasons.

Is it just me or do random references to Angel seem to increase in this season?
Huh?

How does JM do that thing where he looks at SMG like he worships her with everything in him, without looking like a complete boob? Most people look like boobs when they do that. And not the good kind of boobs.
He's a freak.

Denial. Then he'd have to admit she was really dead. Probably would have told them once he got back.

Hi there! Thanks for giving these a go!

It's always kind of bothered me that going by the named vamps turning rates just don't seem often enough to account for the numbers that routinely rise every patrol night in Sunnydale.

Never thought about it that way, but damn, you're right. Maybe that pyramid scheme group in L.A. really hit it off before Angel, you know, axed it.

Does Gunn have a hat?

Now that's really a question for the ages.

n the second "flows no more" is metaphorical fancy talk for death. So to open the portals Dawn's blood must be literally her blood but to close them metaphorical is sufficient and metaphorically Buffy and Dawn Summers are both of one blood.

Well, that makes some kind of sense, and that's what I got from watching the show. But it bothers me that Dawn's blood flow doesn't have to stop also. If only some of the blood needed to stop flowing, couldn't Buffy have just cut herself? Or as [livejournal.com profile] marenfic pointed out above, if it really wanted a dead body, couldn't Spike've drunk Summers' blood and jumped in the portal?

If they did it wasn't enough. I thought the main reason Buffy got a job was to convince the authorities that she wasn't an unfit slacker guardian.

That does make more sense, though she tells the people at DMP that she decided to apply there because she needs money right away and a job like that has the shortest application process. Also, fast food isn't exactly a good way to convince people you're not a bit of a deadbeat. Not that there's anything wrong with working in that business, just that most people look down on it.

As well done as Angel or Riley leaving, none of them were honest about all their reasons.

Definitely something to keep in mind! Thanks.

He's a freak.

Yeah, I kinda think so too.

I don't think Angel ever killed a slayer, because why would ME pass up that dramarama narrative? But the narrative answer for me is that Angel probably wouldn't have gotten as obsessed about corrupting a Slayer (since it seemed like he was fond of horrifying/devastating/super-stalking people who were resisting victims, not girls who came out fighting. And I think Darla loved to live large, which for most of her demonic time focused less on having challenging fights than it did on living in nice places and wearing pretty clothes and having pretty things (*cough* Angel *cough*).

By the way, you might be interested in the different Buffy Trivia guides/sites. There's lots of helpful, basic info at those places (especially for things like body counts, who turned whom, references to other characters, even references to characters' hair!). The Buffy Dialogue Database is also good for this kind of thing, checking hunches or finding details if you have an idea of at least what season it might be, and also has a search feature that's very helpful.

Is it just me or do random references to Angel seem to increase in this season?
I think it's you. :) IIRC, there are far more references to him in s4. But again, you could check the Dialogue Database to see if it bears out.

And someone else pointed out Slayers aren't supposed to have friends or family, the maiming raping killing and torturing of which seemed to be Angelus' big thing. So I guess not.

By the way, you might be interested in the different Buffy Trivia guides/sites. There's lots of helpful, basic info at those places

Thanks. I do visit the Dialogue Database quite a bit, and the Buffy and Angel Trivia Guide (one of many, I'm sure) is quite helpful. But sometimes, I'm just interested in people's opinions: I know it's never positively mentioned one way or the other whether Angel ever killed any Slayers; I just want to know what other poeple think. I didn't even think to look up the Spike turning people question because I was being air-headed and thought that wasn't something ever positively addressed in canon, also.

IIRC, there are far more references to him in s4. But again, you could check the Dialogue Database to see if it bears out.

One of the things about the Dialogue Database is things like Buffy and Spike's conversation in "Wrecked", when Buffy says, "A vampire got me hot, one." She's talking about Angel of course, but that doesn't show up when you search for Angel, nor when you scan the "Buffy and Angel" arc option it has. It also wouldn't show the moment in "The Freshman" when Buffy thinks she sees him at the Bronze--stuff like that.

But anyway, I wasn't very clear; what I meant was a few of the references in S6, such Willow saying she had a sleazy affair with Angel in "Flooded" seem more random and casual than they did in 4 and 5. In 4, there were 3 cross-overs, so Angel pretty much had to be discussed quite a bit. In 5, Angel was important thematically as regards the Buffy/Riley arc; the only really random, casual comment about Angel is what the Buffybot thinks of his hair. Of course, Buffy's comment in "Wrecked" about "one vampire" is thematic as well, but Willow's comment and several others have just seemed kinda out of the blue. But I'm beginning to think it is just me!

Well, I was going to answer all of them. But I'm lazy, so I'm only going for the ones I have clear(ish) answers for.

Where did Gunn live in S2 of AtS?
Either he crashed on a series of friends' couches, or he parked his truck by the beach and slept in it.

What kind of music does Buffy like?
Well, as she kept a Big Head Todd and the Monsters poster on her wall for years, I'd guess she's a fan. She also seemed to like Dingoes (not just listening 'cause Oz). Given that, I'd say crunchy but not overly loud rock as her favorite genre. She also likes anything she can dance to, and electronica when she's working out.

Doesn't Spike's duster look . . . too big on him, sometimes?
The sleeves are too long. The shoulders might be a little wide as well, but when you consider the origins of that coat style, I don't think it's as much as it looks. Oh, BTW... after a long and arduous screencapping session, in which I watched the entirety of the Spike/Nikki fight frame-by-frame, I can say with some certainty that Nikki is actually SMALLER than Spike, despite fannish opinion otherwise.

Do Willow or Tara ever get a job?
Willow probably worked as a webmaster for a couple of sites, but didn't have an "official" job. I don't know about Tara, unless she worked part-time at the Magic Box (before the breakup, that is).

Do Anya or Xander (or Willow or Tara) ever think to contribute anything to Buffy's money problems? I mean Willow (and Tara, before she moves out) is living in Buffy's house.
For starters, I don't think Buffy would have accepted money if it were offered as such. So that rules out Anya helping. Xander was the handyman, and occasionally brought gifts of pizza and other foodstuffs. Willow pitched in on the utilities, and Tara probably cooked and cleaned. Groceries were paid for by whoever made the purchase.

Did the Scoobies really not realize Buffy would come back to life in her grave?
I think they developed a mental block about it. The Scoobies, for all their conscious knowledge of Buffy's death, simply couldn't bring themselves to think of her as dead. So instead, their subconscious minds latched onto the notion that she was just someplace else, and they were summoning her back. Leaving them with the impression (unvoiced, but still acted upon) that Buffy was going to materialize right in front of them when the spell was finished.

How does JM do that thing where he looks at SMG like he worships her with everything in him, without looking like a complete boob? Most people look like boobs when they do that. And not the good kind of boobs.
But he does look like a boob. Just a very, very, good-looking boob.

Why can't Anya decide how to fix her hair?
Because she'll never know what her favorite hairstyle is until she's tried them all.

Who raised Bruce Wayne (after his parents died)? If it was Alfred, how did Alfred get custody?
Bruce's parents willed custody to Alfred.

when you consider the origins of that coat style
Hmm... It occurs to me that the origin of the duster is actually fairly obscure. Oops.

The duster was invented at around the time that the automobile became popular among the wealthy. As you may or may not know, early cars were really, really dusty to ride in. So the duster was invented to almost completely shield an entire outfit from dust, and to do that without wrinkling said outfit (ie, loosely cut).

Do you think Darla or Angel ever killed any Slayers?

Nah. If they did, Angel would have thrown it in Spike's face to knock him down a peg or two. And then Spike probably would have found another obsession even more challenging to him than killing slayers.

What kind of music does Buffy like?

Sexy pop? You know like Kylie Minogue and that whole ilk. Paula Abdul is her favorite American Idol judge because she thinks of her as a pioneer for that genre. Also? Though she has a not-so-secret shameful love for Bette Midler, she's managed to keep her admiration for Barbra Streisand under wraps.

Doesn't Spike's duster look . . . too big on him, sometimes?

Sometimes. But I like the unhealthy malnourished anti-linebacker look so if the coat looks like it swallows him whole, I think it kind of adds to his whole persona. It's really not about the coat though. Ken doll resemblance or not *bg*, dude's just pretty.

Does anyone think the way they wrote Giles off the show was in character or well done?

I vote a big fat YES.

Is it just me or do random references to Angel seem to increase in this season?

Hasn't it been that way ever since he left?

Nah. If they did, Angel would have thrown it in Spike's face to knock him down a peg or two. And then Spike probably would have found another obsession even more challenging to him than killing slayers.

Ha! I can see that.

Angel: So? I've killed Slayers.
Spike: Well--well! You can't survive in sunlight. So--watch me now!
Angel: Luck with that.
(meanwhile, Dru: work, work. He can mash potato. He can do the twist . . .)

Paula Abdul is her favorite American Idol judge because she thinks of her as a pioneer for that genre.

Although she does say in S7 that she doesn't understand the appeal of reality tv.

Also? Though she has a not-so-secret shameful love for Bette Midler, she's managed to keep her admiration for Barbra Streisand under wraps.

Love that idea!

anti-linebacker look

hahahahaha! You're right; it fits.

I vote a big fat YES.

Why?

thanks for answering these! Though your icon is kinda scary. I love it!
