101 Kinks

The word "kink" is being used in the loosest sense: these things strike a chord with me, or push a button, not necessarily in a sexual way (though some of them, yeah.)

The word "fictional" is literal. These are things I enjoy reading about, or seeing on television, etc, not necessarily things I enjoy seeing or doing in RL.

I've been collecting them for a while now, again, no idea why. I have a kink for list making? It's not because I'm bored. I'm not bored not writing my IWRY fic, and not betaing the things I have to beta, and not having started my novel thing, and not hopping on that volunteer highschool kids writing thing I want to do, and that job I was going to get, and...The weirdest thing I discovered while writing it? I could go on indefinitely, infinitely. I have so many more fiction kinks it's not even funny. Oh, and some of these may be pretty freaky-deaky to you. So ya know, don't read if it's more than you're interested in.

List of 101 Fictional Kinks

1. When a character calls the love interest, "My--" and cuts himself off. Aposiopesis, I guess.
2. Eating. Especially: hungry people getting fed, and a character watching another character eat, fascinated (either in a disgusted way or a turned on way. Doesn't matter.)
3. Dirty talk. Especially someone describing explicitly what they are doing/about to do to someone.
4. The names of bones. "Ulna" is a much sexier word than "arm".
5. The nape of a man's neck.
6. Slant rhyme.
7. Wound bandaging.
8. Extreme guilt.
9. When kissing cuts off conversation.
10. Women's wide hips. The place where a narrow waist flares out into wide hips on a woman.
11. Consensual and purposeful voyeurism.
12. Subversion of control dynamics. For instance, when someone firmly in a "sub" position is domming. i.e. the bottom domming, or the one on his knees domming, or something. I'm sure there's a name for this, I just can't think of it at the moment.
13. When what a character calls another character changes depending on emotion. e.g.: If Angel calls Spike "Will" when he's feeling tender; if Spike calls Angel "Liam" when he's especially angry.
14. Punishment that doesn't involve breaking skin.
15. Titles with numbers in them.
16. Scars. Especially scars with deep emotional scars behind them, so that when another character sucks/licks/scratches/touches it, the touchee goes nuts (in a good way or bad way, doesn't matter).
17. Scenes in which characters shuffle about and each think the other doesn't care about him/her any more, until one of them finally has the courage to bring it up/ask, and the other gutters, "Ohdeargodfuckyes."
18. Sentences that have rhythm.
19. Phone sex.
20. Shadow. Especially bodies in stark shadow, a voyeur watching half shadowed, sharp shadows in black and white movies, and slanting shadows.
21. Exposure/explicit covering up of wrists, ankles, and necks.
22. Handful sized breasts.
23. The word "Daddy" in sex scenes.
24. The place between the clavicles of a woman.
25. A character reaching out to touch another character and the fingers curling in on themselves before the touch happens.
26. When male Character A is unable to handle Character B going down on him because something about it is too good.
27. Religious metaphor, references.
28. Small hand movements and gestures used as punctuation in dialogue.
29. A man making a fist in a woman's hair.
30. When the question of whether the end justifies the means is posed in an intelligent way with ambiguous gray answers.
31. Mutual masturbation.
32. Consensual nonconsensual sex. As in, a character trusts another character enough to act out a noncon scene with him/her. I like the word "no" to get used. A lot, so I like it when there are safe words. It makes me read more comfortably, elsewise I get worried and start to shred my nails.
33. Men's forearms with visible veins on the underside.
34. The word "thighs". Also, wet thighs. Parting thighs. I really like thighs.
35. Characters unable to have gentle tender sex because they feel they don't deserve it.
36. Red red lips.
37. Character A's hands settling on character B's hips, then character A jerking character B toward them. Or, instead of hips: the top front rim of the pants, or a belt.
38. Mermaids.
39. Subtle alliteration.
40. Threesomes.
41. Moresomes.
42. Touching of places that are erogenous for unusual reasons. E.g. necks for vampires, knuckles for Wolverine, Spike's wrists directly after "Damage", that sort of thing.
43. Grim stillness/complete lack of reaction in reaction to terrible news/hurtful words, when the impassiveness is really masking Great Emotion.
44. Shame.
45. When a character is attuned to scent and gets off on certain scents.
46. People who can't be touched (e.g. Rogue, Gwen) getting touched, or haven't been touched often getting touched (e.g. Sunny kissing Connor)
47. A character trying to hide he/she is turned on by something random someone is doing, so the someone will keep doing it.
48. Shirtless men holding naked babies.
49. Syllepsis.
50. Carefully handled objectification, especially of body parts rather than people. Um, for some reason, in a sex scene, "the arm" is going to do more to me than "his arm" or "her arm" or "Buffy's arm". Why? I don't know. What is this called?
51. Bottling emotions and emotional explosion, especially when the explosion doesn't involve tears, revelations, or incapacitation, but angry no-hope-anymore blow outs, e.g. Angel in "Reprise" and Connor in "Home".
52. Character titles. i.e. When Spike calls Buffy "Slayer". When Connor calls Angel "Dad".
53. Men's big hands.
54. A man shifting his weight in a chair because he's watching something that's turning him on and it's making him uncomfortable.
55. Pet names.
56. The pet name "baby".
57. A character acting dom because they feel they don't deserve the luxury of subbing, i.e. giving in and letting go, trusting someone else enough to take care of them.
58. Sex that is described in a way that isn't sexy. I think this is very delicate. You could end up using the phrase "crotch fur" which admittedly isn't sexy, but um, isn't a kink of mine, either. 'Cause kinda ew? I just mean all the words and metaphors and allusions in a sex scene don't have to be something sensual. It can be awkward and even kind of tasteless, the way our bodies can sometimes be. As long as you don't go to the place of cream of cum, 'cause while I'm sure that's a kink for some, um, it ain't mine. I bet there's a term for this, too.
59. Deep gravelly male and female voices.
60. Warmth. A cold character getting warmed up, vampire getting turned on by living flesh, so on.
61. The word "fuck".
62. When two characters meet, and one of them knows who the other is, but the other is surprised, all with the feel of destiny. e.g. When Connor arrives and says, "Hi Dad". Or in "Gladiator", when Emperor Joaquinn Phoenix decides to meet Russel Crowe and doesn't know he's the general he tried to kill.
63. Petting.
64. A man's forehead pressed against a woman's abdomen or navel for solace.
65. Male characters with an aspect of animal/beast/demon in them.
66. A character trying to convince another character not to love him/her by showing the ugliest part of themselves. e.g. Angel on the hill in "Amends" trying to convince Buffy he deserves to die.
67. The attitude of prayer.
68. A piece written in the POV of Character A who is unknowingly turning Character B on, but in such a way that we the reader know that character B is turned on and going crazy with lust, but Character A remains oblivious and confused. Poor Character A. Poor Character B!
69. Good metaphors.
70. Men's hairy chests and arms.
71. Happy father and daughter bonding nonkinky friendship. Happy father and son bonding nonkinky friendship.
72. Kinky baddirtywrong father/daughter. Kinky baddirtywrong father/son.
73. Sex that isn't perfect. Orgasms that aren't mindblowing or earthshattering. Bodies that don't feel like coming home, and kisses that aren't the best thing the character has ever experienced in his/her entire life.
74. Extreme self loathing.
75. A character unable to stop punching something due to emotional pain directed at something else. E.g. Angel in "Dear Boy", Faith in "Release".
76. Masks.
77. When a character represses expression of sexual pleasure because of some event in the past has convinced them that such expression is Bad, and another character has to disabuse him/her of that notion.
78. Mirror sex.
79. Sex in front of a camera.
80. Consensual security camera sex voyeurism. WHAT?
81. Narrator stating the occupation/relation of character in a sex scene. Um. There was a post on metafandom about how you should use "him/her" or the person's name in a relationship fic or sex scene, instead of trying to identify people by other markers, such as "his brother" or "his friend". I happen to like "his brother". I also happen to like "the vampire." I also happen to like "the policewoman", even though the fact that she's a policewoman should have no bearing in a sex scene. Oh, and I'm explicitly talking about sex scenes here. I don't think it's good writing, necessarily. Unless you make it work. I wonder what this kink is called. I've seen enough bad!fic that use it exhaustively, so it must turn more than me on. I think it must have something to do with objectification, too.
82. When a character has full and complete knowledge of how fucked up the world and life is and decides to love it anyway.
83. Sweat.
84. When characters can't say "I love you."
85. Stories with horses, wolves, or big cats. Also, eagles. Sometimes big dogs. Especially when they're loyal friends, or symbolic . . . symbols.
86. Unknowing incest. E.g. Luke/Leia before they know. I think I like the resulting guilt factor?
87. Women's hair turning white. Especially due to something supernatural. E.g. Willow. Or Rogue. Or Lissar, the woman in my icon. But also graying/whitening hair due to aging is sexy. In both women and men.
88. References/metaphors involving fairytales, folklore, legends, and myth.
89. Real, honest to goodness lube for anal sex. I.e. no salad dressing or peanutbutter.
90. References/metaphors involving history.
91. Smoking. Let me explain this one. I guess because I find it more difficult for myself to understand and accept than some of the ones where it's obvious I don't want it to be me or someone I love in that situation. I hate to see people smoking in real life. It's unhealthy. And I dislike being around it. I think it smells bad and it gives me a headache. But I still think Audrey Hepburn looks cool with a long cigarette holder between her fingers. I still think that one picture of Christopher Plummer holding a cigarette is hot. I like that Wolverine and Starbuck chomp cigars, and Spike is sexy smoking. And nothing wins over Angel in "Redefinition".
92. Magical realism.
93. Insect metaphors.
94. Big damn heroes.
95. Sex in which orgasm isn't even achieved because someone's a control freak and can't let go enough to do so. It's not so much that I find this so very sexy as I find it angsty.
96. Angst.
97. Reading glasses.
98. When a character is unaware of how he/she relates to another character. E.g. Luke and Leia and Darth Vader. Or Connor in most of "Origin".
99. Empathy as a superpower.
100. Ocean/sea/water metaphors, references. Also, fish.
101. Women's long thick tumbling hair. Said hair getting finger combed, brushed, styled, braided etc by a loved one.

Wow. We completely share a brain. Possibly, you should be afraid.

Although I have to say, you might be giving badfic writers too much credit by assuming what they write turns them on. Mostly, I think they just copy what they see other badfic writers doing, because they tend to flock together. So, someone uses "crotch fur" or "the policewoman", and the rest of them simply assume it's the way things are done.

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
I guess the main thing is, I don't understand why badfic writers would bother if it doesn't turn them on? For some it's for fb, sure. But at, for instance, adultfanfiction.net, there'll be an author who's written 10 fics, without a piece of fb to split between them, and is still writing this . . . crotchfurpolicewoman schlock. I have to believe they get a kick out of it. I *have* to.

So we are BOTH sharing [livejournal.com profile] tkp's brain? I am quite stunned by the number of things on this list that hit my buttons, like freaky specific things.

Except, as I pointed out below, I don't like mermaids or epithets and I think I have more fondness for Spike, Jared Padalecki and girlsex than she does. :P

And our icon really makes me wish I had a bunny for the 'thon. :(

Um, wow. Lots of kinks in there, and we share a few.

Notably -

#2. I am absolutely seduced by descriptions of food and eating and people visibly enjoying what they are eating. The same for seeing this on a TV screen. It's one of the reasons I love Something's Got To Give - the eating scenes are yummy.

#91. I get it. Spike smoking and that scene in Redefinition are, um, the definition of sex walking to me. In the first Charlie's Angels movie, I found the character of the Thin Man to be sort of oddly attractive, because of he way he smoked his cigarette, like he was enjoying a seven course meal.

#75. Oh yeah, fizzles my brain. I could watch Angel punch that wall over and over again, loving that something emotional was making him lose control that badly. Makes the bottom of my stomach drop out.

#2 is weird because I *love* descriptions of people visibly enjoying what they're eating. But I don't like to watch it on TV. I do like to watch other people *watching* people who are visibly enjoying their eating. Hee. It can get so so twisted.

#91 I don't remember what the Thin Man was like, but yeah, there's a certain way some people smoke that is really sexy to me, as much as it turns me right off in RL.

#75 Mostly, it makes me sad. But I like it as a visible expression of emotional pain.

Heh. I'm glad other people share some of these!

Um, I love you.

And we apparently have almost THE EXACT SAME KINKS. I feel that I should pull out some quotes because some of the specifics are bizarre but there are too many and I believe that you know me well enough that this burden of "proof" is unnecessary.

Except for the fact that I do not give a damn about mermaids. And I rarely get off on epithets. And I think I like Spike, Jared Padalecki and girlsex more than you do. :P

This is fairly fascinating. We share some, but not as many as I expected, especially considering how wholely I adore your writing. Maybe that's because my #1 overrides-everything-else kink is -- good writing.

I got halfway through and then had to go start my own list and then come back and finish reading yours. It's incredibly fun. I'm having no trouble coming up with all sorts of stuff I've never really identified kinks before, such as "women in mesh tank tops with nothing underneath" and "people perched on the crosstrees of frigates." Hee.

HEE!!!

I'm glad you're doing your own! I can't say I didn't half hope people might treat it as a meme because I want to see how much coincides, and how much weird stuff is different.

Did you see how you could be one of my kinks? You totally could, because I adore your writing back and yes oh yes, I have a kink for good writing. But I guess I don't identify that as a kink so much as . . . something bigger. I almost put competent punctuation as a kink, but same goes.

I'm having no trouble coming up with all sorts of stuff I've never really identified kinks before,

This was what was crazy about compiling this. Just certain things get me like no other, but I never *thought* about them as something that makes me lift my head and suddenly pay attention.

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

OMG, your list is just so *freaking* huge. *loves*

12. I believe this is called "topping from the bottom". Angel does this frequently. Okay, maybe not *frequently*, but you know, he tops from the bottom whenever he's on it.

49. You made me look this up. I iz dum.

91. I have a *huge* smoking kink. Apparently, we're not the only ones. There are a few yahoo groups and at least one lj comm that have this kink too. I also have a drunk!kink and stoned!kink, especially with characters who don't normally indulge.

96. A million times yes. YES, ZOMG! Er, sorry, had a moment.

100. Fish? Like getting jiggity at the fish market on top of a open crate of sea bass or just in the Dadaist sense?

You are brilliant.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
12. Yes, that's it. I want to see B/A, though, where Angel bottoms from the bottom. Femmenerd said she'd do it. *holds her to it forever*

49. No, I was looking up some other principle of rhetoric for something and I saw that and thought, that should go on my kink list! Then I wanted to read the whole site (it was an encyclopedia of rhetoric, or something) so I could put all the ones that push my buttons on the list. But, I got bored. So, I didn't know what the word meant either. Well, until I looked it up!

91. The funny thing is I really don't have a drunk!kink at all. Nor a stoned!kink, though I've only read a few fics with stoned characters.

100. I meant, metaphors and references involving fish, as with the ocean. Tom Waits has this line that goes, "Your eyes will die like fish, and the shores of your face will turn to bone." He has a lot of fish metaphor stuff. It's really creepy and strangely accurate, similar to the way the ocean can be brought into *so* much of everyday life.

hahaha I don't know about brilliant, but certainly kinky!

12. Subversion of control dynamics. For instance, when someone firmly in a "sub" position is domming. i.e. the bottom domming, or the one on his knees domming, or something. I'm sure there's a name for this, I just can't think of it at the moment.

So very hot.

16. Scars. Especially scars with deep emotional scars behind them, so that when another character sucks/licks/scratches/touches it, the touchee goes nuts (in a good way or bad way, doesn't matter).

Oh, dear God yes, me too.

27. Religious metaphor, references.

Add a whole other level when handled well.

51. Bottling emotions and emotional explosion, especially when the explosion doesn't involve tears, revelations, or incapacitation, but angry no-hope-anymore blow outs, e.g. Angel in "Reprise" and Connor in "Home".

Oh, or Faith bottling everything until she beats the crap out of Wesley's shower. Love it.

We do seem to share a lot of the same fictional kinks, so many I'd need to respond to most of your list. For myself I would also add:

Table sex. Er, characters having sex on or over tables, not having sex with tables because THAT WOULD BE WRONG.

Characers struggling to control their homicidal tendencies around the object of their affection/hatred, especially in a Faith/Buffy context.

Characters who believe they are unforgivable being forgiven.

Betrayal, especially if you're not expecting it and it comes as a gut punch.

Slayer dreams.

Multiple universes/realities and what happens when they start to rub up against each other.

Characters with a slim grip on their own sanity trying to hang on.

Wow. This is turning into my own fictional kink post. Shutting up now.

Yeah, I was thinking of that, that's how come punching things in rage got it's own number!

Table sex.
Characters who believe they are unforgivable being forgiven.
Betrayal, especially if you're not expecting it and it comes as a gut punch.
Multiple universes/realities and what happens when they start to rub up against each other.

Oh, those four really do it for me, too. I think I'm going to have to do another list in a month or so! I left out so much furniture sex. Sex on chairs and counters and office desks (omg) and up against walls. *slathers*

Wow. This is turning into my own fictional kink post. Shutting up now.

Hey, you should do your own! I kinda hoped some people might steal the idea 'cause I just find this so interesting, you know?

Wow. I thought maybe I'd find a few things in this list that applied to me, not 75% of it. At least.

13. GAH. If Angel calls Spike "Will," I'm a gooey mess. Every time. Even if the fic otherwise sucks. hee.

"The vampire" gets me every time. I think it's because of the reminder, right there, that this isn't a human. But I'm not sure. I have to go think about that...

Never "baby." I hate that, and it usually pulls me right out of the story.

Mermaids? ... ?

Thanks for posting this. And making me look up "syllepsis."

:-)

13. GAH. If Angel calls Spike "Will," I'm a gooey mess. Every time. Even if the fic otherwise sucks. hee.

The thing is, for me, it's only if Angel calls Spike "Will" in a very specific context. If it was always Will Will Will in a fic it would do nothing for me, because it wouldn't feel intimate or special. I've known for a long time I had this general name kink, but it wasn't until Angel called Spike "Will" during sex in [livejournal.com profile] germaine_pet's recent fic "Prometheus Unbound" that I realized specifically Angel calling Spike Will in tender moments was a thing for me.

"The vampire" gets me every time. I think it's because of the reminder, right there, that this isn't a human. But I'm not sure. I have to go think about that...

Well, me too, but even like, "the other man" turns me on. Like I said, for me I think it's an objectification thing.

Never "baby." I hate that, and it usually pulls me right out of the story.

I used to *hate* this, and then I did a complete 180 and now I love it. The problem is I just don't see a lot of Jossverse characters using this, so usually it *does* yank me right out of a story because the use of it isn't warranted. I should've put "'baby' when the author makes me believe it". ...Which Lynne also managed to do.

Mermaids? ... ?

read When In Dreams I See Her. It's the second one on the page. Very short, so you can do it right now. It's one of my favorite fics. Ever.

Thanks for posting this. And making me look up "syllepsis."

Hee! I had to look up syllepsis too. And it makes me so happy other people identify with this. Last night I was feeling all waffley about posting it, 'cause I thought: who else really cares? But apparently some people share a lot of kinks!

And, I sent you a short email.

It's getting so crowded in this hive brain, dammit. Shove over, you guys.

It's actually easier to note what in your list doesn't do it for me: the use of the word 'daddy'.

How frightening is it that there's only one thing that :::didn't::: make me go guh???

Plus, add to these:

...chair sex (specifically, TJ straddling DB in an armless ladderback chair, face-to-face)

...Rosary beads as cock bindings

...use of latin or galeige during sex (prayer gets an extra kink hit)

...treasure trail worship

...the term "shove over" as a sexual directive

...kissing the curve between the top of the thigh and curve of the ass (m/m especially)

...self-prepping

...the prayer-like use of the word "don't"

And of course, every single one of these kinks involves some incvarantion of the body of DB. The "don't?" That's Booth. All over. Yeah, that's one of my newest kinks: the straightest guy in straightonia desperate for an ass-reaming, and desperate to hide it. Yup. Yup. Yup.

C'mon, you know it would make that damn show better.

Phew!

That's a lot of word there.

(My list would add to that: sex against walls, sex against countertops, sex/attraction by proxy, where the people getting it on are both thinking of, sometimes with full knowledge that they're both thinking of, a third party. If it requires complex Venn diagrams to explain, that's even better. Oh, and bonus points if the proxy sex involves #16 and #64. Also, one character tasting his/herself on the other character. 33. Men's forearms with visible veins on the underside.
Dude! I've fucked guys who are totally ugly just because they had either great arms or hands with vascularity that makes me so fucking hot I could DIE.

And a lot of your other kinks are my kinks too.

I have too many thoughts about this. But the one that's stuck out most in the last 10 minutes is:

Kind of funny that among all those sex-related kinks (some more than others, sure, but most are at the very least romance-elated) Nº 69 is for 'good metaphors'.

My mind is a scary place?
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
hahahahah! I messed with the order of this list a lot, because lists can be boring to read, and I didn't want there to be a big long run of "dirty talk" "phone sex" and then "good metaphor" "slant rhyme" "sentences with rhythm" etc. But I didn't even look at #69!

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Wow! I am so impressed by your list. There are many that I agree with, especially 1, 6, 18, 28, 39, 56, 61, 69, 84 and 92. I really love when language is used well. It's neat to get thrills from a good alliteration or rhythm in a story. *g*

Oh, hells bells. I so was NOT going to respond to this because there's like a million comments already and I know once upon a time you asked if lots of comments deter one from commenting, and the answer is yes.

BUT! Then I started to read the list, and well ... hells bells!

2. Great food scenes are Hard to come by. But I agree that they are fascinating. One that sticks in my mind is from a book with a blue cover about a woman going slowly mad and damned if I can remember the title right now!! Crap. It's on the tip of my tongue. Anyway, it involves a can of soup. Oh, I remember -- The Trick is to Keep Breathing by Janice Galloway. And also? Every food scene in Jennifer Crusie's Bet Me.
3. I find this one totally interesting because it's such a squee moment for me.
4. Yay!! Tibia!
5. Can I tell you how MUCH I love that spot. When a guy bends his head down to look at something and maybe he got his hair cut two weeks ago and the hair is coming in all soft and ... *sigh*
9. I love that in movies. When someone just swoops in and ... *sigh*
10. YAY! And the small of the back.
11. Dude!
15. Can I ask what kind of numbers? Number numbers or word numbers? Sequel numbers or just part of the title?
18. Yeah, baby!
21. I am very interested to know what exactly gets you about this one?
23. Eek. :)
24. You know that's an awesome spot and I LOVE when someone touches it. With affection.
25. & 26. Pretty much, Holy Roly Poly Yes!
27. Always the bestest.
33. You're so me right, now. I love forearms better than napes and possibly better than that hairless spot right beneath a guy's butt cheek, just where it becomes thigh. *double sigh*
46. Amen.
47. LOL!
48. Oh, hell, yes! That totally gets my heart thumping.
53. Please see 33.
54. See 48.
55. Ha! I love pet names and using pet names and I had to break myself of the habit of handing them out because someone once told me it might not be of the good. Like my love of physical contact. Dude. So, miss that.
59. Yikes. I once knew a boy in junior high who had such a deep voice that I could feel it my chest when he spoke.
61. The word "fuck".
63. Oh, Joy and Yay! Also see 55.
65. I should probably stop responding because so many of these are hell yeahs!
70. I love guys. Love their size, love their weight, love the differences between me and them. But I don't like hair. Totally don't.
84. But so long as it ain't "Ditto".
85. You're taking me back to junior high again, seriously.
89. ...
94. Big damn heroes.
96. Angst.
101. *sigh*

ext_7189: (Default)

I so was NOT going to respond to this because there's like a million comments already and I know once upon a time you asked if lots of comments deter one from commenting, and the answer is yes.

This confuses me.

The big comment number is mostly just me and Kita and femmenerd discussing...um, things. I use lj like im on a fairly regular basis. But anyway did you see the way I tried to pimp the hell out of When In Dreams I See Her? 'Cause a lot of people were like, mermaids, what? So I linked them to that because it shows just how awesome mermaids can be in narrative. yay! I shoulda told them to leave more fb.

15. Not sequel numbers. I don't like it when Sequels are all Mission Impossible 3, or whatever. I like new titles, like A New Hope, the Empire Strikes Back.

I wrote a fic called, 10 Things That Pull Apart and One Thing That Holds Together, or something like that. A2zmom has one called Eight Ways To Leave, Nine Ways To Be a Fool. I like really long complex titles like that. I think the reason is because it leads me to expect something pretty regimented in the fic. So even if the fic doesn't list what the nine different ways are, I look for them. It's kinda like the way I like 5 Things fics, but like, expanded. Or something.

21. It's especially the wrists and neck, though ankles can be nice. I think the wrists and neck might be my favorite body parts, and it's precisely because they're so vulnerable. That is where you cut the arteries if you want to kill someone, that's where life is the highest. But there's really no discrimination about covering them up or not--it's not like they're breasts, about which there's social taboos and stuff. But if the covering up or exposure is made explicit, by which I mean done deliberately--if Buffy wears a turtleneck to tantalize Angel. When Rogue takes off her gloves around Wolverine to show that she trusts him. Oh yeah, that really gets me.

33. Someone else mentioned that spot where cheek becomes thigh. I never really thought about that place too much before. Huh.

70. I have to like the hair. 'Cause, let's just say, I'm a pretty German gal myself. hahahah.

85. I love big animals. There should be more things, with animals. This is why I love Firefly. There were horsies, Sera.

I think my kink is you listing your kinks. Too many to recount and say, "fo' sizzle, you too?", so here's one;

17. Scenes in which characters shuffle about and each think the other doesn't care about him/her any more, until one of them finally has the courage to bring it up/ask, and the other gutters, "Ohdeargodfuckyes."

Okay. I don't really know what fandoms or pairings you read. But, imho, it doesn't matter. Something super sexy is anything by [livejournal.com profile] germaine_pet.

If you haven't read anything by her, read Vicarious. It's A/S, but about Buffy. It's got all the good writing things, like great metaphors and sentences with rhythm. It's got dirty talk and characters who can't have tender sex and can't say I love you (kinda, you'll see) and touching of Places That Do Things To Me and sub/dom subversion and...all kindsa good stuff. Plus, it's a quick read.

Here via [livejournal.com profile] mlyn. Awesome list! I don't see him in your interests, but #48 makes me wonder if you're a fan of Sean Bean...

I hope that this doesn't sound weird, but I liked reading your list. Or maybe I should say that I found it interesting.
I would say- I really like magic realism, references to fairytales/folktales/legends/myths, angst, mermaids, pirates (I know that you didn't mention that one), and reading glasses!
And you know, I think that you're right that there is something so endearing about a character who feels like they don't deserve to be loved. Oh, and when characters don't know that they love each other! Awwwww!
I do like what I read to have happy endings, but I also like reading about all the ways that characters misunderstand each other. I think it makes them more human.

50. Carefully handled objectification, especially of body parts rather than people. Um, for some reason, in a sex scene, "the arm" is going to do more to me than "his arm" or "her arm" or "Buffy's arm". Why? I don't know. What is this called?

You could describe it as synecdoche if the pronoun is attached (ie her arm or his arm) as the part is used to represent the whole but when you abandon the pronoun and view the arm as a separate entity representing the person then it becomes something closer to metonymy.
