BSG, you are not forgiven. You do not pass go. But I still love you anyway.
GAETA - *licks all up* He's still in love with Baltar. I think him lying straight through his teeth to see Baltar condemned adds an interesting dimension to his character, which I hope will be explored.
LEE - I loved him very much in this ep, which I have not done since S1. He had that whole "stand up for what's right" idealism stuff going for him, which I used to love so. His speech was really great, had many points I agreed with, a few points I didn't expect and hadn't thought of (his lists of everyone who had been forgiven and for what, for instance). Even if the speech itself was a little long and repetitious, Bamber did an excellent job on the delivery.
And yet, this doesn't change the fact that leading up to this point, Lee's motivations felt wishy-washy, unclear, and self-centered. How come he could say this to the court, and not to his father when they were alone together? So the show could have this big turning point? That's badly done, imo. That's not to mention the fact that almost all of S3, and most of S2, Lee was not this strong, upstanding, ethical-dilemma-posing, interesting character I remember from S1. He's been whiny and self-involved and in my book, annoying. During the New Caprica thing he gained a lot of weight, lost his idealism, yada yada, which explains his annoyingness in S3 (though not in S2), but I didn't see his arc from that weak person back to this person we saw in this ep. If someone can point it out to me I'll gladly listen.
SAUL MOTHER FUCKING TIGH - is still a badass. ZOMG.
BOB MOTHER FUCKING DYLAN - is still a badass. ZOMG.
GAIUS BALTAR - I would've agreed to acquit him were it only the charges the prosecution brought on him in dispute. However, knowing about him betraying security on New Caprica, and him giving that Six that nuke, I definitely think he should not go free. Not to punish him so much as he's obviously someone who can amass power, does, and only ever uses it for his own ends. He's a threat to everyone. That said, how glad am I he got off? SO GLAD. Now he can go start a cult!
BILL ADAMA - Has been the most inconsistent and disappointing character all season. He seems to be not a character any more, but rather exactly whatever the writers need at whichever time. I have difficulty seeing how someone like Adama could say his son has no integrity with one breath and then uphold that son's ideals in the next. I had thought maybe Bill agreed with Roslin, that because Gaius was behind the whole initial Cylon attack, Gaius should be imprisoned/airlocked/whatever, even if they couldn't try him on those charges. That's just the sort of practical, ideals sacrificing, Machiavellian things Roslin would do--it's not right, but maybe it's for the best. Kinda like killing Ben, not Glory. Anyway, if Bill had felt *that* way, there would've been a reason for his whole "Baltar doesn't deserve a trial" schtick. But obviously that's not what Bill believed as he is now all for fair trials and upholding the ideal. WTF, Bill. WTF. It is not your decision that upsets me, it is your complete inconsistency.
STARBUCK - Who didn't expect her to appear last minute? I sure as fuck did, but was still happy to see her. I also had an inkling of suspect when she died that she might be coming from Earth, so yay for me. And. Are we supposed to be thinking she brought Dylan? The girl's got taste.
THE FIFTH CYLON - Everyone on the ole flist seems to be saying Kara is the last Cylon? I think that's what they want us to believe, and I think that's really possible, but in my mind there's a whole shitload of doubt. First of all, considering the whole religionosity thing, there's other ways for her to come back.
ROSLIN - Second, what was the deal with Roslin clutching her head when all the lights were going down? Could Kamala block her Sooper Sekrit Sylon Signals? She could still be a memeber of the Es Es! (Es Es). Plus she was having that Cylon dream. I love that Cylon dream, as first of all, SHARON. Second, Six kept saying Hera was hers and Baltar's baby, and there was that whole Opera House dream with the crib and the reveal of "the face of things to come", and I was terrified the show had *dropped* that whole thread, which would've upset me as I hate dropped threads. I get all unravelly! So Roslin could be connected to Hera and whosits because she's a Cylon, but we're guessing it's 'cause she's got Hera's blood. Right. Right? And I thought Roslin was going to lead them all to earth. Not Kara.
CHEIF - works for me as a Cylon. SHOW ME HIS TURMOIL. Also, hook him up with Boomer. kthx.
MOORE - Dude. Why 2008?
THIS EP - I dunno. So long was spent with Baltar, and so much of the Dylan and Four Cylons just felt like set-up for a cliff-hanger, which I find annoying. Of course, AtS S3 and BtVS S5 ended in cliff-hangers, and I love both those season finales, and the only reason is *possibly* because I had all the dvds and could pop the next in. However, I still feel as though I'm being strung along, and I dislike that feeling. It makes me shred my nails.
S3 - Feel very much the same as
a2zmom in this season being freakishly up and down. Overall I felt like there were great concepts lost in the utter enormity of what they're trying to do, here. In the end, I love the show for trying and for all the times it does succeed, but I still don't trust it. I don't have my faith restored, because despite the fact that this ep made me excited and had cool music, it didn't fix all the things it broke in S3. However, I tend to be critical at the outset and mellow later. Obviously I do love it as I'm talking so much about it. I guess I don't want to come off as bashing something I really care about; I just had my problems with it. *gives show a latte*
Now back to porn. Really!
