[livejournal.com profile] femmenerd yelled at us. At us, guys.

Anywho, she's talking about smut. Yes, textual porn, ladies, the kind that makes you squirm in your chair. And she wants to know which fics go straight to your libido, or someone's libido, because anonymous commenting is on. Not the thinky fics, folks, unless the thinky does it for you too, or there's thinky and something that does it for you. The kind that make you ashamed you kept reading just because they were really hot, the kind that make you want to leave TMI in the comments, the ones that make you want to have babies (except for the whole giving birth thing. And everything after that. And the pregnancy thing). Go leave links here.

In other news, why is it I've never heard amygdala called the lizard brain before? eta: Because it's not, actually, but anyway, what I mean is I've never heard the term "lizard brain". !!! Thank you for the info, [livejournal.com profile] marenfic! Do you know, everywhere I go, I feel like I'm constantly surrounded by people who know more than me. Oh wait, I am. But sometimes I think everyone's going to get advance notice for Rapture but me, and everyone'll be talking about it, and I'll be going huh, with the what now, because I'm not even sure what the Rapture's supposed to be anyway.

In other other news, I luff you all and you made me feel better last night and things are looking up up up because my family is full of nutcases.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, the amygdala actually controls fear and aggression responses, not sex. The hypothalamus is where you get your sex on. Both are part of the limbic system, which is sometimes referred to as the reptilian complex (i.e. lizard brain). Now you know ;)

oh. I tried to look lizard brain on Wikipedia and it just linked to the amygdala. Apparently I have a lot mixed up. Why's it called a reptilian complex?

And thanks for the info. Apparently I should know this stuff.

The Rapture means nothing to me at all, so you have me beat there. In terms of the brain, I wouldn't say most people know this stuff at all-- you are in very good company.

Reptilian, because if you look at reptile/lower mammal brains (like rats), they have limbic systems as their "higher" functioning brain systems. It controls a lot of the basics in terms of hunger, sleep, sex, fear (flight or fight response, etc.) The joke is that humans have the reptile/instinct/ancient brain system to drive us to the four f's, but luckily we've developed the cortex to take care of higher executive functions.

You never heard of lizardbrain before? Hunh. What was your major in college?

Here is a Rapture icon for you. I don't know wtf that shit's about either, except apparently, being a Jew, I get to go to Hell. At least, as Angel says, I'll know most of the people.

I have a B.A. in English. In literature, you talk about that kinda stuff all the time, but I feel certain it mostly got referred to in another way. But yeah, this always happens to me; everyone around me's like, Joy? We talk about that all the time?

Oh okay. See you there!

I'm glad you're feeling better! (And also that my "yelling" is working. :P)

I feel suitably chastised.

Well, I think you've got a pretty nifty brain. You make thinky posts plus that kinks list that lives on in my brain.

I've never heard of the lizard brain thing either, but the Rapture is vaguely familiar. True believers being lifted to heaven, every one else left to rot? I think. In a comic book once when I was but a wee girl, there was a panel showing a drowning heroine who fantasized about being rescued by a merman while he was kissing her and she called it the Rapture of the Deep, but I don't think that's what it means either.

Possibly I have nothing constructive to add.

Ha, thank you! It's just a lot of stuff people seem to think is common knowledge type stuff, I'm just all huh? Anyway maybe my kinks list lives on in your LIZARD brain. Hmm.

I like the mermaid idea best so far! That's constructive in my book. *builds little mermaid sandcastles*

Anyway maybe my kinks list lives on in your LIZARD brain. Hmm

You have *no* idea! A month or two ago I was sitting at my desk at work, listening to generic rock and putting together a quote when suddenly I was like "oh! That's a kink, a serious one. I need to tell tkp" but it would have been freaky as hell to go back to a, what? Two or three month old post and comment on freshly realized kink. So I didn't. But I wanted to.

But now I've forgotten the kink again. I'm sure it's in my lizard brain (I've been reading!) but it won't surface until the next ridiculously ill-timed moment. *headdesk*

NO IT WOULDN'T. No, whenever you think of one I'd be vastly entertained to hear it!! I don't care if that makes me a creep. Or what you could do is start a Word doc and just add it to a list of your own, then do your own post. I wish the kinks list thing had taken off as a meme. I'm working on another one, adding links to the first one, and that unkinks list I mentioned to you before. This is a subject that endlessly fascinates me, and for all that people talk a lot about what they like in fic, there doesn't seem as much interest in compiling and laying it all out there. Which I'm all about!
