FIC: Another One Like It Tomorrow [Author's Note]

Today I'm starting to post a fic I've been writing for more than two years, since right when I started getting into the fandom of Buffyverse. It's called "Another One Like It Tomorrow". It's Buffy/Angel-centric, though it also has Angel/various others, all slash. It's about Angel descending into darkness and finding his way back out again. It takes place in early AtS season one.

So far, this fic is 180,000 words. It is 7/10 written; a middle part and the ending aren't written yet. I never wanted to post this as a WIP. I also wanted to cut it a lot and get it beta'ed before sharing it with the public. But I've lost a lot of steam in these two years, and after a lot of thought, I've decided that working on posting it might do a lot to get me stoked to push on through and write the final 3/10. As such, I decided the right thing to do was to post it for the [livejournal.com profile] lynnevitational, which is partly about finishing things and keeping alive that Jossverse spirit.

I'm going to post the fic in pieces, about a chapter a day or every other day. As I post, I will be working to finish the unfinished pieces so that the missing parts should be written by the time the posting gets to that point. There should be no long delays for anyone following along, waiting for me to write.

There are several reasons I'm posting this way, which I feel the need to explain, since it can be a rather touchy subject. One reason is that as I said above, I've lost a lot of my initial inspiration. If people are willing to brave the WIP status and read along, which I hope some will, I think I'll really be able to push to finish the final parts. They're already completely planned in my head; mostly, I just have to write them. So, yeah. I'm partly posting this way for feedback. I want to see what people have to say as I post, and use any positive comments to reinforce my will to finish. No pretense about that. But secondly, this fic is massive. Juggling it all in order to make all the bits connect has been a long, exhausting process. I am not a patient person. The thought of having it finished and then having to fine tooth comb it for spelling errors and such frankly exhausts me. Posting chapter by chapter is a nice way for me to do a little bit of copy-editing at a time without making me want to heave.

Speaking of editing: although yes, I do hope positive comments will encourage me to finish, I love constructive criticism. Also, if there are typos or anything of that sort, I'd be much obliged to anyone pointing them out.

If you are averse to reading a WIP, there will be an announcement at the end that it is complete, with a link to all the chapters, and you can read it then. If, however, you are interested in following along as every new chapter as it is posted, I suggest you friend [livejournal.com profile] tkpfic. That journal will be used exclusively to post this fic until posting is completed, at which time you may want to defriend it. If you're not sure whether you're interested in following along, watch this space. There will be a weekly notice on this journal with links to the week's worth of updates. That way you can read it in chunks if you like, or just be reminded that something's being posted over there you may want to read.

On that note, I just want to say I'm not sure how many of you will really be interested in this. The plot is both extremely narrow and in some ways dense, very idiosyncratic. This is in some ways a B/A shipper fic, which might alienate you, but in other ways there's a lot more to it than that, which may alienate the rest of you. There's quite a lot of sex, once you get into this, both B/A and not. It's partly what this fic is about; then again it's partly 'cause I like writing porn. As you can probably tell from this A/N, I'm quite wordy, and I tend to be heavy on internalization and characters' thought processes. The writing style is nothing to write home about. It's neither poetic nor funny. It's just supposed to tell a story, a story I hope at least some of you will enjoy. In some ways, though, I am not the fan I was when I started this. I still enjoy this story myself, but I don't know if I would write it the same if I were to do it again.

Lastly, I owe a debt of gratitude to [livejournal.com profile] chrisleeoctaves. She's read most of this, but cannot be blamed for any glaring small errors or major faults. Mostly, she encouraged me, caught a bunch of little errors, and offered quite a few broad comments that hopefully will really change this fic for the better.

Omg, L. You are such a brave friend. And a good one. And a cool one. And a talented one; your fic rocked my socks. I can't believe how full Sariel felt with only those few tweaked lines and additions.

As for this--it pleases me you want to try it, but I wouldn't mind if you didn't, you know. I mean, you should only do it if you're looking for something to read. Because I know you don't like WIPs and also, this is...it's different than the other stuff you've read by me, and it really might not be your cuppa. But anyway, I WILL get it finished, dammit, so you don't need to worry about that.

Either way, thanks. You bloody mess of a broken head brings a little tear to my eye.

I'm wearing my good friend hat, see? It's chic and helps to hide my poor broken head. ;)

I've been contemplating Man's Best Friend so this is good practice. In fact, maybe I'll go and read that while you're working on this. Hmmmm....

Now, I really AM off to the market. I don't like the market. I like food. I like eating, but just not the shopping part. The shopping part gives me a headache. *sigh*

Man's Best Friend is more fly by the seat of my pants. I'm planning on finishing it but there's no way I can write that fic when not in the mood. This, I really feel like I can force myself to finish because I know what's going to happen and the style is nothing clever.

I feel the same way about grocery shopping, but only in the summer. Which lasts nine months in TX. I do think grocery shopping is fun sometimes when done with friends. Whenever I see you we will go to the store together. We'll need stuff to make PIE.
