It's Lion Turtles all the way down ([personal profile] lettered) wrote2007-11-20 11:52 am

(no subject)

Hi everyone! I'm in Seattle.

I met the awesomest sauciest of people on the way, but which one is which I shall never know. [livejournal.com profile] seraphcelene, [livejournal.com profile] kita0610, [livejournal.com profile] fodian, and [livejournal.com profile] dakingrl take the cake. Cakes. They all have frosting on top of them and gooey innards. Okay that sounds dirty. Which is was meant to. I will reveal all their dirty secrets post haste. Watch this space. Or actually my IJ.

Speaking of up and moving and living in a new place, which I wasn't, how pretentious is it that some people feel the need to name their houses? Very.

eta: I didn't mean it.

OMG HI JOY.

Good to hear from you! Glad you had fun with everyone!

hi! YAY. And Kita and I totally fangirled over the shininess that is you.

Awwww. You guys are shiny.

*hands you cake*

My house is named Bob.

Wow, it even looks like a Bob.

Joy! Yay!

Also, wtf: unless the house is, like, Falling Water, no. You do not name a house, geez.

Hi hi hi! How're you doin'?

I'm actually just giving my (new new new!) room mate shit. I like to name anything and everything just for kicks. I suck at it, though. But SOME names really are stupid and all stuck uppy and stuff.

Houses have a long tradition of being named in England. How that tradition ended up here, I'll never know.

HI HI HI! I am jealous that you got to meet all the shiny cakey people. How are you settling in??
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-11-20 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I like to name houses. Then again, I also like to name my computer and sometimes the food I eat. I suck at it, though, my names are never as good as Anne of Green Gables.

My car is half unpacked! I...still need to get a job.

Kita and Fod and Daki are even awesomer IRL. You need to come visit this way like you once threatened.

I am still planning on it. I was going to do it this year, but I bought a house instead. I will name it Bundle's Trundle after my dog, Bundle, who is queen of the realm. I will visit next year!

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-11-20 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY. It would be awesome to meet you.

Bundle's Trundle is cute! AWWWW. I love how my friend that I'm moving in with has a dog. Kita's dogs are the sweetest. Fraidy cats, but really big dumb blobs of happy making.

Welcome to Seattle. And it's even all sunny here for you today.

Which neighborhood are you living in?
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-11-20 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
dude, I didn't know you lived here. How could I have missed that?

I'm in Northwest.

It really is quite a pretty day!

[identity profile] viciouswishes.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in West Seattle about 2 miles south of Alki Beach.

I hope that you're settling in. At some point, we'll have to get together.

[identity profile] filmnoir6.livejournal.com 2007-11-20 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh come now, tkp. House names are okay. I mean you wouldn't want to call it ______ Shack. Gah! Even that sounds like a take-out place. I'll stop.

Love Shack! Love Shack!

I love naming things! I was just trying to stir up trouble.

My in-laws named their property up where they have their cabin things.

I boggle at it. But I did almost name my house Sow's Ear Landing.

SEATTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey!

SEATTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry about the weather...

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-11-20 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Sow's Ear Landing! BAHAHAH. That is awesome! You should name it that.

I always thought my parents' cottage should have a name, because it's all nestled in the woods'n'stuff.

The weather today is nice though!

I swear, it was crummy and raining last time I looked!

(I've been in my cave, watching Dark Angel while I work from home.)

JOY!!!!!!!!

I have missed you! And I somehow missed that you were moving farther away from me to Seattle until Fem told me. However, I have recently resolved to fangirl in all 50 states, and if I hit WA, I can round up at least 10 people I know, including you!

I'm kind of excited to see you. *acts cool*

[identity profile] only-passenger.livejournal.com 2007-11-20 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
punk houses in minneapolis all are named. (mpls=big punk/hobo/traveling kid scene.) my girlfriend has lived in houses titled "the squeezebox" (17 people in a six bedroom house), "the ink and stink" (dirty and tattooed) and "the twixt" (gender fucking at its midwest best).

one of the oldest is TMF ("the house of too much fun"), which has been around for 35 years with revolving door renters.

these houses tend to have enough people living in them (say, four or more housemates) that they're oft-referenced social landmarks. it makes sense to say "let's meet at the twixt at noon" rather than to say let's meet at that house on the corner of lake and portland with the tallish fence around the backyard at noon".

though i tend not to live like that, i admit i still name my houses (apartments) because of the cultural rub-off. my current is "the bee tomb."

(good to see you!!)

[identity profile] a2zmom.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Seattle! It's like a mini SF with more rain. Less hills probably.

I have something to send you but I was waiting until you were ensconced at your new abode (that's my fancy typing for the day.)

Oh and Seattle is pretty much the garden capital of the country. Great weather for growing things.

[identity profile] dlgood.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, welcome

[identity profile] semby.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! Good to see you here, all moved and settled. Hope it all went well! And are you all fully-interneted up so we'll be seeing more of you?

[identity profile] bubble-blunder.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Somehow I missed that you were moving to Seattle. Welcome to the Pacific Northwest (I'm down in Portland)!

And I am so jealous of you getting to meet all of the yummy gooey peeps!

Hi hi hi! I hear that Seattle is a wonderful place. And obviously it is, because it has some wonderful people in it, now including YOU.

[identity profile] mabus101.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Have fun in Seattle. Never been there...or any further west than Kansas.

Good to learn you're safely in Seattle. Best of luck!!!
