20 Questions about me meme

Yay I was tagged! That's so exciting. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] ladycat777.

Tagging: [livejournal.com profile] cordelianne, [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre, [livejournal.com profile] jgracio, [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan, and [livejournal.com profile] gaudynight

If you've been tagged, you can (if you want) write your answers in your own LJ and replace any questions that you dislike with a new, original question.

01. Make a list of 5 things you can see:
Mr. Darcy, [livejournal.com profile] my_daroga's dog
Auryn, [livejournal.com profile] deathmask_revel's dog
Bananagrams, the best game ever
the cat tree
a box of tissues for my wasting illnes, AKA rivers of mucous

02. What are your thoughts on yaoi?
I sort of wish there was a term more accessible but also attractive to a wide range of people. The word slash is more accessible, but still not familiar to most people. Sometimes when I talk about my hobbies, I tell people I like to read about men having relationships, falling in love, and/or having sex, but I don't think that even encompasses all yaoi or slash is. Sometimes I say I like to read about homoeroticism, homosexuality, or teh gay porn, but people assume I'm reading porn when I say that (especially when I say I read porn). Also, it does not reference literature or the specific genre I'm reading. I guess part of my wish to have a word for this is part of a wish that slash was an accepted and popular thing to read and write about, as it seems to be in Japan (please correct if I'm wrong?). Which is of course part of a wish that homosexuality itself was accepted and treated appropriately.

03. Is there anything in your fridge right now that you dislike?
Gatorade. I think the baked bean can is still there. I think there are things molding. I'm not partial to eating plastic.

04. What's your occupation?
I am called an Operations Lead, and I work at Pacific Science Center. There are these people called Science Interpreters, who run the exhibits which need running, wander the floor to help customers, and share various science with visitors through said wandering, little talks with props, and big talks with booms (stuff blowing up!) and stars. I sort of manage said Science Interpreters. I write their schedules, and take care of problems they encounter, and relieve them if they have an elsewhere to be. I also help develop the props and science concepts we put on the floor, and train a lot of people to run the exhibits, help customers, and share science. Right now I'm training people on handling a calf brain. We take the brain out on the floor and talk about what the brain does, and let visitors touch it.

I also cashier one day a week, sometimes more.

05. Do you nap a lot?
About twice a month, I think. I don't know if that's a lot. I don't think napping is productive, but it's so much easier for me to sleep during the day than at night.

06. What was your first celebrity crush?
Emilio Estevez. Yes, I know. I loved The Mighty Ducks, and everyone else had crushes on celebrities, and I didn't care so much, so I picked him. I don't really think I can count Johnathan Crombie, because really I just loved Gilbert, or Christopher Plummer, because really I just loved Captain Von Trapp.

07. What's your current fandom/obsession/addiction?
Kings, Harry/Draco per usual, and strangely, cooking

08. What are you listening to right now?
Mr. Daroga talk on the phone in the other room, and some bugs outside.

09. What was the last text message you received?
It was Carrie from work telling me she'd been napping, but that sure I should meet them there, and she'd be glad to see me, and [livejournal.com profile] my_daroga.

10. What websites do you always visit when you go online?
LJ, hotmail, gmail, and Google.

11. What was the last thing you bought?
Howl's Moving Castle, Coraline, and Martha Stewart: Cookies from amazon.com. They are all gifts.

12. Why are you doing this meme?
Because it's an easy way to fulfill my 15 minute quotient without going too much overtime!

13. Does the weather affect your mood?
Yes. Partly because it seems to affect my sinuses. But I love gray, rainy days, because I find them aesthetically pleasing, and maybe because I don't think they get enough love. They make me feel rather passionate. However, in essence and against my will, they depress me. And sunshiney days in essence lift my spirits--I would say against my will, but I'm never against my spirits being lifted. The frustrating thing about it is the passionate depression makes me long to create, to express, to write. However because I feel all dreary and lethargic I never do. When it's sunshiny I feel a lot more energetic and productive, but the moody bluesy is gone and I don't feel as inspired.

14. What is your zodiac sign?
Virgo. I don't really care about astrology stuff, but I do think it's interesting when people share my sign and also certain qualities.

15. What was the last thing you cooked?
I made eggs with garlic, cheese, and spinach!

16. Weird dream?
I dreamt about a flying McDonald's! It was made of living matter; it was alive! It was actually just a table, a circular table with seat around it, but it had a full McDonald's kitchen. It spun around as it flew, sort of like if it had a propeller on top, but it did not have one. I didn't think it was alive, but later when I pulled back the thin layer of wood over the table, I saw beneath a gray spongy fungal substance! One of the people I manage at work had damaged the living McDonald's, which came to us all the way from Russia! And then there were a lot of meetings about what to do and how to respect this flying McDonald's that was given unto us. And then I quit my job! And was worried about what I would live on for the rest of the dream.

17. Do you have any siblings?
I have two older brothers.

18. What's something you'd like to say to someone right now?
I'd like to welcome [livejournal.com profile] my_daroga home and tell her that I care about her deeply.

19. What are your plans for next weekend?
I plan to work, work some more, train more people on brains, watch a movie for movie night, and eat cookies!

20. Say something to the person who tagged you:
I have recently enjoyed your posts regarding Kings, and am excited about the show and fandom.

You have the coolest job ever.

But.

What.

Well, it's not a live brain! The visitors have to put baggies on their hands to touch it. I think the reason we have them touch it is the gross-out factor gets people interested. But also I think it just makes the whole subject more accessible to some people. And it convinces some people to be vegetarians! It makes me want to go out and get a hamburger, myself.

That's exactly how I felt when I lived in Seattle. I think it must be a biological need for sunshine.

You train people to handle brains!!! Not many people can say that :-D Wow. Really interesting to read your meme! I did this one too but a load of the questions had changed in the meantime. Not the dream one though - reading a few people's ones makes me realise just how crazy our brains actually are when we're asleep - your one is great :-D

03. Yeah, I know. I cannot train him!

13. Yes. This. Applies to me. Exactly.

18. You did, and I appreciated it, and I care about you deeply, too.
