Y. Effusive, embarrassing, and possibly kinda scary amounts of gratitude to [livejournal.com profile] romanyg for paid time. You're awesome with the love and make lj a cooler place to be, and not just for the random fairy gifts on the doorstep!

A. And: I'm back! For good this time I think. I helped my brother move to Gainsville, Florida--I'd never been to FL. Or Mississppi or Alabama. It's humid in Houston, but Florida is SWIMMING in it. Seriously, if you can't hold your breath for long times underwater, don't go to Florida. I nearly Wicked Witched of the West'ed.

Y. Ask a question, any question about me, about fandom, about fic, about lj, about you, about oompas or hatracks or zits or finely carved small foxes, and I'll answer to the best of my ability. Unless I don't feel like it; then you're screwed. But no, really, I want to play! *blows breath on window and draws heart with fingers*

! ZOMG thank you again [livejournal.com profile] romanyg!

A. FL is hell. I can't believe I lived there for three years. What was I thinking? Stupid boys. Anyway. I'm so glad I'm out.

Y. Why are you so awesome?

OK I have more questions. Ha.

1. How much editing do you do with your fic? How much of what comes out on your first pass makes it pretty much intact? I don't need percentages or anything, here; just a general idea.

2. I'd still love to hear your thoughts on my Erik p.o.v. novella, however misguided I now consider much of it. (no pressure, just a friendly little nudge. And wink.)

3. Do you think you'll stay in TX forever? Despite my frequent experience being uprooted, I'm eternally glad for some of the places I've moved from; Houston being one of them.

1. Hm. I edit while I write. Some say this is a big no-no, but I so often just get stuck. In longer pieces, I get stuck writing connecty bits, and that's when I go back and change things that came before. In shorter pieces, every word is an effort because I feel like I have to make it really really count, and then I'm editing word by word, sentence by sentence. Because by the time I've finished a first draft I've rewritten parts of it 7 or 8 times, I'm utterly sick. I've never written a first draft then written a whole second draft where lots of things get changed. That happens while I'm writing--but during the course of writing, things get edited to absolute rapture.

2. I'm sorry, K. I'm a loser. I'll get lots of comments to you sometime soon--I'm so sorry for such a long delay. Thanks for the nudge.

3. No! I hate Texas. I love travel. Mostly, I love travel because I have a tendency to get comfortable, and that makes me sedentary, and I produce nothing. But travel is a good way to force myself to be active in some way or other. Right now, I'm actually having difficulty imagining settling down in one place or another (which is funny because I've pretty much been in the same place my whole life and have as yet made no plans to leave), but I guess the places I'd most like to live are the East Coast or the UK.

1. I do the same; I work things out as I'm writing them, and it's very hard for me to go back and redo things because a) I think lots of us have to learn to edit/let go and b) sometimes I've already "drafted" it enough. Whatever works, right?

2. =) No worries. I just get so curious!

3. Reasonable. I imagine moving to the UK to be fairly difficult, as an American (one wanting/needing a job, that is) but I love the East Coast as well. Well, the Northeast bit in particular.

Cool people live on the coast, yo.

1. I think being able to rewrite is important when it's needed, but if I'm working it out as I write--yes, it's not always needed!

2. I just get so lazy. :o(

3. Yeah, the UK is bloody expensive. I really should've said New England instead of just the East Coast, because that's what I meant.

I'd like to visit California for a while, but the only thing I'm interested in north of that is you! If I ever get money to go jetsetting about the way I'd like to, I'm definitely going to Seattle. ;o)

Awww... Seattle is really cool, actually. I don't like CA much. Well, Southern CA. The northwest is very green and smells nice.

(Hooray for jetsetting!)

I spent a few days in Elk once, in nw CA--one of the most gorgeous spots I've ever been to. I'd like to see L.A. just for the whole Hollywood aspect. I guess I like to think I'd be there one day making movies, but...doubt it!

Most of the people I've known from Seattle are rabid fans of the city. I did almost go to Reed College, partly because I thought Seattle sounded so cool.

Seattle fans can be kind of annoying. I didn't want to move here, actually, because I'd met too many people who insisted there was no place better on earth. And that is annoying! Like, "You are stupid to live anywhere else," condescending crap.

NW CA is awesome. I'd take the area around S.F., too.

I don't think I can compromise enough to make movies in Hollywood. It's interesting to see, but it's just too busy and too commercial.
