La Vie De TKP: The Return!

Hey kids, I'm back.

-drove for 2 days (22 hours) to get to my parents' cottage, which is next door to my Granny's cottage, which is on Lime Lake, which is next to Leland, which is in the county of Leelanau, which is in the northern part of Michigan.
-drove back, but stopped in Chicago and had deep dish pizza
-had this view from the porch:

-married Ethan from "LOST" (it was a MASH game)
-roasted marshmellows and bratwurst and made s'mores. But not with the bratwurst.
-froze my boobs off
-spent time with my three best friends from high school, who're still my bestest friends in the world
-froze the rest of myself off
-ate a sandwich from the same shop almost every day because they're so freakin' good!
-read Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse, which I highly recommend to [livejournal.com profile] l_aurens if she hasn't read it yet
-didn't eat cherries. The county and area is known for cherries, but it was too early for them, which was really disappointing. But we did go to this place called Cherry Republic and eat cherry cookies, cherry jam, cherry pie, cherry candy, cherry barbecue sauce, cherry hot sauce, cherry salsa, cherry chicken salad, and drank cherry wine and cherry water and cherry juice and cherry pop. I ate cherry bratwurst, too. So I guess in the end I might've eaten some cherries.
-never had enough water pressure in any of my showers
-saw a fox, lots of deer, a wild turkey, but weirdly no raccoons
-dug a hole in the sand 3 feet deep, but didn't build a sand castle
-kept having slash AU all-human fanfic ideas pop into my head, with a college professor and a student, alternately Angel and Xander and Spike and Angel, and was freaked out by it, so I tend not to enjoy most all human AUs
-sighted an unidentified pair of underwear in our cottage
-had lots of fun!

What's been happening in fandom/on my flist.

-There were hate memes and love memes and now there's a humor meme, and I'm just left saying why? But then [livejournal.com profile] marenfic gave us a synopsis, and I realized the reason was 1. to amuse us, 2. because fandom is like that, and 3. to keep us asking why?
-FANDOM ALERT!!!!!: Spike is/was evil! He raped murdered pillaged killed and ate babies! And so many people are coming out and saying it.
-[livejournal.com profile] peasant_ has interesting meta, as usual, on the possibility/plausability/whyability of Spike's redemption sans soul. And then about Angel/(us), and further contemplation on the nature of the soul in Jossverse. Which, if I were to express my thoughts on it, as I hope to do, I wish people wouldn't get confused with the conception of "soul" in real life religion, society, and human ideas.
-and then [livejournal.com profile] l_aurens, not to be outdone, wrote a drabble about Spike's schlong vs. Angel's ass, which is all that really matters when talking Angel and Spike. CANNOT. STOP. LAUGHING.
-to which [livejournal.com profile] kita0610 said, here, here! The important thing in life is porn!, and then asked about our kinks. *Ahem* in fic.
-[livejournal.com profile] dovil (pronounced "Doovil"!!) also has meta, which in my head connects to Peasant's meta, because it's about the fact that Spike is not a puppy and Buffy is fucking cool. Then she has further thoughts on why the character of Spike is so appealing, and then she tells us why Spike sucks, though I'm still not really clear on that part.
-though apparently, it's because Spike voted for W. Or at least [livejournal.com profile] dlgood is discussing who Spike would've voted for for American President. BAHAHAHHA!
-all of which has left a lot of people talking about SR, the AR, BR, and ER, and possibly George ClooneyR. The AR is SR is something lots of people just don't talk about a lot these days. Well, people start to talk about it, and then someone says, "But we've already been over all this before, and I don't want to fight about it, and Spike's cock rocks my clock", and then everyone nods quietly and sagely and goes about their business like very polite people. To which I say, "I like Mrs. Jennings; she talks about things; we never talk about things!" Spike's cock does rock my clock, but--in fact, Spike's cock is the reason why--I like to see him and the things he's done (or not done, whatever floats your rootbeer) discussed. I think I might have a Thought about it, but I need to do a separate post about it because I am ANAL. Always Needing Another Ljpost.
-to which [livejournal.com profile] rahirah says, with her usual sense and candor, Dude, I talk about things, and I'm not afraid. Sheesh.
-and somewhere amongst the "Buffy is a slut" BS, [livejournal.com profile] regala_electra asked why so many writers want to make the woman of their OTP a virgin before she can have sex with the male half. She was talking about Doctor Who, which I finally sat down and watched, but the question is applicable everywhere. What I hate even more is when Buffy only did it over the covers with Angel, and Riley was a bad lay, and so only Spike can show her what REAL SEX is like.
-Speaking of other fandoms, [livejournal.com profile] seraphcelene discussed the new X-men movie in length. I used to be all over the X-men movies. Most of the other fic I've written is in that fandom. (I was/am a big Wolverine/Rogue shipper. I kinda ...miss it. Now I'm getting all nostalgic.)
-[livejournal.com profile] stoney321 should be recieving the combined income of Dan Brown and Ron Howard, in fact, should be catapaulting to the top of the bestseller's list STAT, but the world isn't ready for her yet. But I so am, so am in love.
-[livejournal.com profile] ros_fod is obsessed with Snarry and not leaving anyone links.
-[livejournal.com profile] a2zmom and [livejournal.com profile] kita0160 have cute kids. Which shouldn't be in "what's happening in fandom", except it should, because if there was a fandom comprised of a2z and Kita I'm so there!
-I got an awesome postcard from [livejournal.com profile] chrisleeoctaves! Thanks honey! And I hope your trip went well!
-[livejournal.com profile] crazydiamondsue and [livejournal.com profile] femmenerd were missed by moi. Just mentioned here because I didn't know what to link on them.
-hi [livejournal.com profile] imnotacommittee! *waves*
-[livejournal.com profile] germaine_pet wrote fic, which is a very nice thing to come home to. (I almost wrote "the best thing to come to." Hee. Which is not true; I didn't almost write that; in actuality I almost wrote, "the best thing to come home to", but thought about my shower and various other things one could come home to, and changed my mind, and then I mistyped while telling you what I almost typed, and then I almost started talking about how Xander's ass is like coming home, so I stopped myself.)
-[livejournal.com profile] cordelianne wrote baby Connor drabbles.
-[livejournal.com profile] a2zmom wrote a ficlet I haven't seen yet!
-[livejournal.com profile] entrenous88 wrote a bunch of Cordy stuff, and the one I'm most looking forward to reading is 5 Ways Cordy and Xander Never Got Back Together. Because I'm not so secretly in love with C/X.
-[livejournal.com profile] birthdayrecs was started, where you can mush and gush on fandom people on their birthdays and stuff. It sounds so nice!

Most of all, the world loved on [livejournal.com profile] lostakasha and [livejournal.com profile] sothernbangel, and there were thoughts of them both from Michigan, even if they just felt them as a tiny little warm breezes.

That's all I got. If anything happened you'd like to share/fic you wrote/discussions you're having/observations you made/meta you posted/weird stories about your pets/boring stories about your light bulbs/intimate feelings about the dissolute activities that went on in your neighbor's apartment last night, I'd love you to leave a link. It's nice to be back.

I have to go pick up my parents at the airport. My mom cultural attache'ed her way through Russia, baby. She's super duper important.

Eeeee for cherries-in-everything! It's like my dream restaurant.

Your lake trip sounds like so much fun. And I'm impressed how much you got caught up on with fandom already. A couple of links there I hadn't seen yet, so yay! *follows those*

Welcome back. :)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-06-18 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
The best thing about Cherry Republic, besides all the cherries in everything, is it's a place with a sense of humor. For instance, they have this sign that says, "Check your bananas at the door."

I've actually been back a couple days, voyeurizing on my flist a little while recovering from that drive, getting caught up before commenting or I would've gone nuts.

And thanks!

[identity profile] violaclaire.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Your lake trip sounds amazing! But . . . but . . . no sand castle. How can you dig a hole without also making a sand castle? Isn't that a rule or something?

Anyhow, welcome back!
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-06-18 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
I know! Last time I went with these same friends we dug a great big hole and used the good sand for a HUGEMUNGDIDDLYUMPTIOUS castle, but this hole was even huger and munguser and diddlyumptiouser, and by the time I wasn't done digging (I wanted to keep digging but was too tired) I was too tired. I took pictures of the hole; I have to show you how big it was.

And thank you!

kept having slash AU all-human fanfic ideas pop into my head, with a college professor and a student, alternately Angel and Xander and Spike and Angel You just say that sort of thing to toy with my emotions, don't you?

[livejournal.com profile] crazydiamondsue has nothing to link because I got a day job that does not allow internet service to anything other than pre-approved sites. There for - no LJ from 9 to 5 CST. This has caused a seismic shift in my soul, and I am not the Sue I once was. I do, however, have a plot for a Faith/Dawn story that I've been shouting to the world (if the world was made up of 3 people) and I may email you about it later. Whether or not it will ever be written doesn't matter, what does matter is me crowing about the plot. (It's rare I have plot of my own. I'm excited.)

Otherwise, I've barely seen LJ, my worldview has shifted thereto and that pic is gorgeous. And I missed you greatly. (But I'm making CDs for you *and* I found that "Early One Morning" Season 7 song covered by the Von Trapp Family Singers! The Family Von Trapp!!!)

You just say that sort of thing to toy with my emotions, don't you?

I think I got the idea from you? I remember seeing the idea somewhere. What disturbs me is the way the idea ATE MY BRAIN for both A/X and A/S--separate stories, but with nearly the same plot. That plot being namely: teacher, student, porn.

I saw that about the censored job but I missed what job it was. What're you doing with yourself? And F/D omg I'm so there! It's actually a recent interest of mine, after I went to find out what "Little Miss Muffet counting down from 7-3-0" was supposed to refer to. And I know what you mean about plots; they're hard to come up with.

Hahahahahaha! Max announcing the Festival winners! CDs! Yes! By which I don't mean crazydiamondsue. I have more pictures; they're all so pretty. I miss you too!

Welcome back!

Human AU bunnies are scary, but occasionally worth daring the potenial freakage. (The same could be said for unidentified underwear...)
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-06-18 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
The underwear was not worth the freakage! Well actually, it was entertaining to talk about them, especially as they were sighted in The Room Of Ecstasy, where my two BFFs have to sleep together (there are only two beds in this cottage, and 4 gals. When the plumbing people came to fix our water we mentioned showering at the same time, by which we meant one right after another, and the dude's head bugged out of his skull. It's in the country so they don't see much stuff like that, and there we were four crazy loud gals from Texas and who knows what they get up to down South?)

All of which leads me to conclude a human AU may be worth it after all.

Yay! You're back. And so am I. Kinda sorta. And I am pleased as punch for being mentioned a. in the same line as [livejournal.com profile] crazydiamondsue and b. for merely existing.

I went to grown-up camp. I was corrupting into liking SPN and Wincest fic. Then I got exhausted by people (omg, poor me, I have too many friends[/self-mockery]) and was forced to watch gay melodrama in my underwear for two days in order to recover. I also went skinny dipping, hung out with my mom and got drunk in the tub with other girls. Not all at once.

Then I wrote some drabbles.

I am also obsessed with heroes. But I think you knew that already.

You ate cherry-related products, were fabulous and then did a MUCH better job catching up than me.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-06-18 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pleased as punch you exist too!

The funny thing about SPN is I've only seen one ep but I'm totally into Wincest. Well, not really the fic, because usually I still can't remember which one's Dean and which one's...the other guy, and want to watch more before I read stuff. But those boys totally are into it. Lonely brothers on the road all by themselves, what else is going to happen? pfft.

I wanted to go skinny dipping, but it was colder than a witch's tit. I barely even swam at all, which makes me sad.

Gay melodrama in undies sounds fun.

Looking forward to reading the drabbles.

I need to add heroes to my interest list.

I actually got back several days ago, and spent time just getting my bearings back home and kind of popping sporadically about my flist, (which is probably why I missed your drabbles) trying to catch up without adding more to do on lj by posting or commenting. Lj is like a job; it's nuts. A little voice keeps telling me to flist trim but I just can't be bothered.

I may've pressed the wrong button and given you the wrong reply to this. Oops.

Humor meme. Misnomer as no one funny's been there yet.

Chuck Norris Vs. Spike

How did I miss that???! *bookmarks* (And btw, Xander's Cock is pretty much permanently turned up *wink wink*)

She had translators and chauffeurs (however you spell that) and a freakin' entourage, and a sign that said, "Welcome, the best teach in the United States", and people giving her vodka, and she bought me a nesting doll! So cool.

Uh... I wrote a Connor gen piece that you may not want to read cos it has an original character, but I figure I should get used to self-pimping and you're a good place to start!
Also, that round-up was v funny and useful. You should do one every week.

I love OCs by good writers. You fit the bill so of course I'm interested! I haven't read most the stuff I linked above; I'm just trying to organize myself, so thanks for the heads up and I can't wait to read! And yeah, self-pimping is weird for me to do myself, but when other people advertise stuff they've done to me it just makes me so happy, is such a relief, because I don't want to miss the good stuff.

And it's funny you say that about the once a week because I'm thinking about doing that. I always have a kind of mental list of things I want to read/reply to on my flist, and I'd probably be better at actually doing it if I wrote it down, and hey, other people might use it too.

Thanks! I have more pics, I bet everyone'll be sick of me by the time I'm through.

I want to see that movie too. Which disturbs me because I don't like Reeves and the premise sounds silly. But I do like the few romantic chick flicks there are that have a slightly...supernatural/or maybe just implausible bent, like "Groundhog's Day."

And I'm glad if the synopsis was informative!

That photo is so beautiful, it looks so serene and peaceful.

It really is a wonderful lake. What's awesome about Leelanau is it means "land of lakes", and so there're a lotta little lakes like this one, which're really great, but there's also Lake Michigan, which can get pretty rough, like the ocean on a calm day. Best of both kinda waters, if you ask me.

*bounces* OMG I would love if you wrote that, especially if Xander's involved!! Of course it would rock, with or without Xander. :) I've read some awesome human AUs written by authors that I love, so it's totally do-able!

I've never written Xander, and not sure I could do him justice. The thing about human AUs is that though I've read ones I find really entertaining, I think it's hard to keep the characters in character, which makes me wonder--why not just leave them witches and vampires and werewolves, as they are? But then a bunny like this pops in my head and drives me crazy with its cracktasticness. I know one day I'm just going to take the plunge and write something really really crack, so I might as well get over myself.

Glad the synopsis was helpful! And I read the baby!Connor drabbles (I can't resist Angel and Connor. EVER. It's like a bullet-proof kink, whether the story's actually kinky or not) and loved 'em! I'll leave more fb on your journal but I wanted to say that in case I forget.

Of course I'm a die-hard B/Aer, but there's a soft spot in me for X/C, I think especially because I love Cordy, and I don't think she really ever again gets someone she deserves. She never actually "gets" Angel, and even if she did, I just don't feel like he's right for her, and I try to tell myself that's not the B/Aer in me talking. Whenever I try to sit down and think of the person I think she'd be good with, I come up with a list of character traits, and those traits are Xander's, and then I realize the person was Xander all along. *sniff*

Thanks.

What's funny is my gut reaction is to say Spike wouldn't give a flip, but he can be so touchy about weird things. It'd be just like him to take politics very seriously, just to be contrary.

*waves back!*

Welcome back! Sounds like you had a great time, complete with wild turkeys :)Too bad it was too early for cherries (are you sure there wasn't any blue strawberries?) Did you have cherry cordial and get drunk like Diana?

That pic is gorgeous - I can see why you were looking forward to this trip so much.

Again, welcome back. I hope you never find out who the owner of that rogue pair of unmentionables was!

Heya! I'm impressed you saw my hi amidst all that other not-your-fandom,-some-of-which-is-probably-scary stuff!

I didn't even think about blue strawberries! I can't believe it! Maybe because there was no blue fruit, so cold lately or not. I didn't have cherry cordial...I, like Anne, have never had cordial, or red currant wine.

I think the unmentionables belonged to a relative...sometimes extended family stays in our cottage without exactly telling us. It's just kind of an extension of my granny's house.

So anyway, yeah, it was fun. It's really a place to throw out your arms and sing about the hills being alive (I said at least once: the sky was so blue today, and everything was so green I just had to be a part of it.) How've you been? I hope you're doing well!

Oops! I tried to link only unlocked entries, but on some I didn't check. Sorry!

I love how everyone loves cherries. They're just a happy berry :o)

Welcome back, and thanks for the pimpage. :) I got a visit from [livejournal.com profile] stultiloquentia last week, and we drank wine and ate dark chocolate and talked about her Buffy/Angel fic. And watched Spike get naked.

Heya! Thanks. Read the fic and adored it, and so what else is new, but you truly never fail to impress me. I'll leave you proper fb on your journal. I'm jealous you got to meet Stulti. And got to talk about her B/A fic; that's one I'm on tenterhooks for.

Wow. Two shout-outs in one message? I have arrived!

I haven't read Steppenwolf: just Siddhartha and Demian, because they're short. But it's on my list!

I'm glad you're home, and glad nothing tragic happened, and glad I could fulfill your every Angel/Spike fantasy singlehanded.

I've read Siddhartha, but not Demian. Steppenwolf is pretty short, too. I'm not sure I actually liked it, which is weird for me. I respect most classical novels for beind well-written, and this I'm just not sure I can. I loved a lot of the ideas, but the way they were presented were ineffective to me, most of the time. But what it had to say about acting in society and the feminine struck me as things you would be interested, though whether you would agree with the way the novel handles them (as I didn't) I can't say.

And heh, that drabble. I'll leave you fb on your journal, just to say in two days that I'm STILL laughing. BAhahahahah!

Hi! ::waves::

Three things (barely) worthy of linkage happened to me while you were gone. The third of which I am not going to go into here, because I'm still working on my post about it.

The first thing that happened to me... Hercules: the Legendary Journeys fandom has eaten my brain (http://ravenwings-7.livejournal.com/15060.html). I haven't watched an episode in well over a year, pushing two. But still, my brain is being gnawed. Help me or join me. Please?

I want people to map themselves (http://ravenwings-7.livejournal.com/15118.html).

I'm glad you had fun!

Interested to see what's cookin' for the third thing!

Sorry to say, I have absolutely positively no interest in Hercules. Hardly even saw the show; it really doesn't hold much interest for me. Xena did a little more because I thought both Xena and Gabrielle were hot, but I couldn't stand that skinny guy so I didn't watch it. I must admit I've read quite a bit of Herc smut in my time, but only because whenever I tried to find fanfiction smut sites all of them seemed to be Hercules or Xena. I have no idea why, and I'd look and look for smut with more familiar characters, to no avail (this was back around 2000).

I put me on your map!

And thanks!

You should not be allowed to go away for so long. There should be a law.

I was away...and no one noticed...but it seems like you were gone for-ev-er...and I kept checking and checking so that I could be amused while I was on the road...but there was no joy (snerk) to be had in my life...

But now there is and so yay!

Are you kidding, we noticed! I missed you! I hope everything went well, and that your life is settling back to normal!

I sent you something snailmail.
