Fiction's Hottest Voices

I've been compiling this. Who knows why? And I'd love to see yours.

Some of these, I just think the actor him/herself has a sexy voice, but this is listed according to character because some do different voices for different characters, or get better voices later on in life, and so specific characters come to mind. This was odd to do because I find some accents sexy, and it's difficult for me to separate the voice and accent*--I really wanted to do just voices, here. Also, I love unusual voices, but while some are exceedingly interesting, they're not what I consider sexy--I really wanted to do just sexy, here. I've always found men's voices far more appealing than women's. It's not because I don't love my vagina! I love deep, gravelly voices, unusual voices, and low, smoky female voices (in that order) the most. It was hard to put these in order, so some I'd interchange with others.

*For instance, Lucius Malfoy: Jason Isaacs, in Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets. Is it the accent? Or the voice? Or just the fact that he's a snobbish assholic bastard? Answer on my desk in essay-form by Thursday, kthx.

Fascinating idea. I, too, am fascinated by voices. I think I'd even say I'm a fan of those gravelly voices too. And a sucker for non-America accents. But I have very little overlap with your list!
lynnenne: (buffy good point by ?)

[personal profile] lynnenne 2007-03-21 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I can't believe you actually *remembered* 50 different voices you found sexy. I'd have a hard time naming 10.

I agree with all of the following: Daniel Holtz, Arwen, Morgan Freeman, Kathyrn Janeway, Spike, Ilsa, Lena Olin in almost anything, Aragorn, Deanna Troi, Hannibal Lector (yes, I am SICK), Jean Luc Picard and Connor. I especially love it when Connor says to Angel, "Fathers. Don't they suck." It just sounds so goddamn DIRTY. >:}

There are moments when I find Angel's voice incredibly sexy. The scene where he's sitting in the back of Lilah's car and says, "The begging? That comes later." Just makes me GUH every time.

Spike's voice nearly always makes me weak in the knees. Wesley's voice can sometimes be sexy, too, especially when he's fucking Lilah. And Holtz... how can a vengeance obsessed psycho sound so damn hypnotic?

Sometimes I scare myself.

OH! Kathleen Turner in Body Heat. Sexiest voice since Anne Bancroft in The Graduate. No wonder William Hurt killed her husband for her.

Also, Ralph Fiennes in The English Patient. *loves*

It's actually far easier for me to list 50 sexy voices than 50 male actors who are sexy appearance-wise. Possibly even easier than 50 sexy male characters. Voice is the one thing that *instantly* attracts me as far as men go (it's hard to say with women. I find lots of women beautiful and most of those I find sexy. But as for women I'm actually attracted to in that way the number is pretty itsy. Anyway.)

Most of the time when Spike is talking I don't actually notice his voice, but oh god, sometimes. Every once in a while with Wesley, though actually mostly when his throat was still making him whispery. Should've put *that* one on: slit-throat-Wesley. DB's voice *never* does it for me. The scene in the car with Lilah is very hot, the way he delivers it is hot, everything in it his hot, except for the actually quality of his voice which never does anything for me.

Holtz repeatedly makes me need my bunk on a regular basis.

I don't remember Turner's voice in Body Heat, though I've seen it. Can't remember Bancroft's either. I know there were a bunch of actresses back in the day whose voices were so much lower and hotter than a lot of the actresses we see these days.

Oh, damn. I was gonna put Ralph Fiennes. Though I was never able to stomach watching English Patient a second time ;o)

Well, then, I'd love to see yours!

Some of this--especially the beginning--is stuff I've kept in my head for a *long* time. #2, for instance, Michael Wincott--he's never had a huge role in anything, but I *always* remember him and recognize him on site because his voice makes me want...um, well, yeah. *Very* gravelly.

[identity profile] spiralleds.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
And given your mood theme, I'm shocked that Captain von Trapp/Christopher Plummer isn't on the list.

[identity profile] samsom.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Dude.

Lauren Bacall.

Anytime she's talking to Bogart.

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
I thought about it. OMG GIVEN YOUR ICON, I thought about putting Rhett on there as well (btw I *love* that icon!). I actually should've put Christopher Plummer in one of his recent roles, because his voice has gotten even better with time. i could decide (with both of them) whether it wasn't the way they talked rather than the sound of their voice. Upon consideration I decided they were both too smooth to make the first fifty, but yeah. Older!Christopher Plummer.

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah. That's one I should've remembered.

[identity profile] samsom.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

Alan Rickman as Snape in Harry Potter. How can anyone make "open your books and turn to page 734" sound so frakkin' dirty and sexy and yum??

Vin Diesel as Riddick in Pitch Black.

Sean Connery in a commercial for anything.

I might think of more later.

[identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
No Jack Davenport? But! But! But! He has the SEXIEST VOICE of any person living or dead!! *crie*

But I'm on board with MANY here. Mmmmm, Lucius Malfoy.

[identity profile] spiralleds.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
What did I just see CP in? L&O maybe?

I'm thinking of that scene where the Captian and Maria are all whispery out in the garden. ::melts::

Rhett, yes, for the way there was always a hint of mirth in his voice. Except when he was angry, which was shivery goodness too.

Kevin Costner's voice is pretty nummy. Well, other than when he's trying to do a foreign accent.

Do guys from musicals count? I'm thinking of Colm Wilkerson's Jean Valjean.

I'm sure I'll think of others later.

Dude, HOLTZ.

::wibbles some::

Dana Scully (I've loved Gillian Anderson's voice in other things, too, but for totally different reasons). GAH.

And, yeah. Between The Ackles as Dean, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as John, Supernatural has given me some serious voice porn. And, Christ, how can I forget Samantha Ferris as Ellen? The woman's got a voice like whiskey on the rocks in a smoky room and boy howdy, mama LIKE.

Err. Yes.

::coughs::

[identity profile] pjgale.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
Mr Darcy! Pride and Prejudice. Love lots of your suggestions though. Alan Rickman- love his voice!

[identity profile] chrisleeoctaves.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
You have too much time on your hands, missy!

I like some of your choices: Holtz for sure, anything that James Earl Jones does, I love Sidney Poitier's voice (To Sir With Love is one of my favourite flicks ever!)Kiefer Sutherland, Patrick Stewart, Dennis Haysbert

I might add Sawyer (James Holloway)- especially when he's being all sexy/menacing/hurt; Jordon Catalano (Jared Leto)- that mumbly teenage angst always gets me; Ben (Scott Speedman)- every word he ever whispered to Felicity went straight to my crotch...and I have to say David Boreanaz. When I was standing on the lawn on the set of 'These Girls' and I heard him say his first words (I was sitting right beside the sound guy) I went into melt-down mode because, never mind Keith, that was friggin' Angel!

I also love Sela Ward's voice...(I fell in love with her when she was on Sisters).

[identity profile] angstpuppy.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
The Dorothy Parker, whiskey and cigarettes voice, oh yeah. Has done things to my libido before I knew I *had* a libido :-)
I got into Buffy the same way I'm getting into Supernatural, fanfic and reading the transcripts. So when I finally heard Spike's voice, bout fell off my chair. Yum.
Ones I definitely agree with you on:

Holtz: thought I was the only one who was creamin' for the nasty pycho's voice
Vincent: oooooh, cat man, yeah
James Earl Jones, duh....
Aragorn, just give me a blankie, I'll be in my bunk, or y'know, lending him some shampoo
Spike: "Im a bad rude man." Humina...
Hugh Jackman as Wolverine (are we seeing an "animal man" thread here?)
Kiefer Sutherland: Young Guns II "William H. Bonny, you, are not, a god" (Course the answering voice "Why don't you pull the trigger and find out" mmm, Emilio, had me flailing allll over that scene)
Sean Connery: anytime, anywhere...
Hugo Weaving: V, Mr. Smith, nursery rhymes...yeah.

Now, a few of my own:
Michelle Pfieffer: Really, anything, any where...but... "Meow" uh, yeah...
Linda Hamilton: Terminator II, the voice, which went with the body, which went with the guns...gibble...
Vin Diesel: Pitch Black "Are you afraid of the dark?" mummy....
The guy who does Sephiroth's voice in Final Fantasy Advent Children "Did you miss me?" Yes, yes I did..oh, you were talking to Cloud, sorry.

I'm sure I could think of more, and if I do I'll post my own list, but these are the ones who have lodged in my....brain. heh.

[identity profile] lostakasha.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You crack my shit up!

Actually, I dug Holtz's voice until that scene in Heartthrob where he sends his minions off to find Darla -- he breaks character when he screeches "Fan Out!" and he sounds like he's sucking helium. It's become a saying around the house and never fails to make us laugh. And not once since have I been able to get the dampies from Holtz's voice.

And this is showing my age, but um, anything Richard Burton ever said made me wibble. The way DB says "Water, soda, baby formula..." in These Girls makes me delirious. And Carly Simon could read the phone book to me.
my_daroga: Mucha's "Dance" (Default)

[personal profile] my_daroga 2007-03-21 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm with you on a bunch of these, but I furiously protest Beth in Little Women. They way her face scrunches up when she says "I'm not afraid..?" I'm sorry, I laugh.

Though OMG I'm so all over Bill Adama. Actually, every time he and Roslin talk to each other. Damn.
my_daroga: Mucha's "Dance" (redheads)

[personal profile] my_daroga 2007-03-21 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I've decided to try to add some of my own. Though I probably won't remember most of them. And I've thought a lot more about this when it comes to singers and sexy voices.

Dana Scully - Gillian Anderson
Mr. Darcy - Colin Firth
Ninth Doctor - Christopher Eccleston
I can't pick which Peter O'Toole... Either Lawrence or one of the Richard II's
Sherlock Holmes - Jeremy Brett
Hawkeye - Alan Alda (I know, so lame! and it is hard to separate the voice from the character in this instance)
Mendoza - dunno the dude, was a character in the old cartoon "Mysterious Cities of Gold"

I tend to like accents, yeah, and vocal hints of snark. So with you I share:
Alan Rickman, Jeremy Irons, Cyrano, Spike, Wolverine, Aragorn (again, might just be character), House, Lector, V, Picard.

Hmm. Fewer than it seemed at the time, though I'd go halfway with lots of yours.

[identity profile] a2zmom.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't normally think about voices but

Holtz, definitely.

All those women from the thirties - Lauren Becall, Mae West, Bette Davis.

Every male born in Wales.

And the Geicco lizard. Send the gekko to my place and he can read me bedtime stories.

*hearts Plummer all up*

Costner actually does have a pretty nice voice, but I could never disassociate it from his accent. Even his normal American accent makes me cringe. It's so flat.

It's funny you mention Colm Wilkerson, as I wanted to put Terrence Mann in, and then decided against including musicals!

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-21 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, Alan Rickman in anything. I just picked Colonel Brandon because that is who I'm going to marry when I grow up. ;o)

Vin Diesel! I forgot. Dude, he should be in the top ten. I hate that I can't really respect his acting, as his voice makes me a puddle of goo.

I have Sean Connery on there, but near the bottom. Which is a lot higher than most other people's voices! but I dunno, I think it's more his accent that makes me all wibbley.
