Info: TKPFIC

I've started a comm called [livejournal.com profile] tkpfic. At the moment, I'm going to use tkpfic in order to host all of my old fanfic. By "old" fanfic I mean fics that I wrote previous to becoming active on lj, which refers exclusively to non-Jossverse fics. The fandoms include but are not limited to: movieverse X-men, Phantom of the Opera, The Sound of Music, L.M. Montgomery, The Godfather, Ever After, and yeah, I don't even know what. Many of these fics are unfinished WIPs, all of which I hope one day to finish (though the Alias and the Gilmore Girls ones are in high doubt); a few are one shots or series. Many of them were posted under a different pen name. Some are very old.

In the future, I hope tkpfic to serve two more purposes: 1. To host any other fic I might write in other fandoms again (I feel like if I say something like that, someone I know might burst into tears. Or someone else I know might kinda kill me. I am writing HP fic, but I'm not admitting it to myself. 56.4% of people polled think HP fandom is fucking scary. I tend to agree). 2. To host my kajilliondy billion word Buffyverse B/A Angel-goes-nuts epic thingy, and any other Really Long fics I might write. Since I resolved to no longer inflict WIPs on the world (read: [livejournal.com profile] chrisleeoctaves. Which is sad, because I made her read it while it is yet unfinished), this fic will be posted nearly all at once (when it's finished. It's not. But I hope to do it for [livejournal.com profile] lynnevitational), or spead over a few days or weeks. Even posted over a few weeks, this fic is so massive that I don't really want to clog my flist. Even if you want me to clog my flist, I'd like the fic in a more contained place, not interspersed with crack polls and emo and wanting to know why 'shipper fics must have insta!lust (no, really, insta!lust is getting annoying).

However, yon' friends! Hope is ahead for ye, for most need not friend tkpfic! On this journal, [livejournal.com profile] tkp, I'll be posting normal fic headers and then fake cuts to every new Jossverse story I write. Ongoing fics or series that I've started on this journal will show updates here. When I post the Epic That Ate My Brain, I'll announce it here, and though I won't announce every chapter (that would defeat the point), I'll keep you updated so you know when it's done posting, for those who would like to read it straight through. If you decide you'd like to read it as it comes instead, you can friend tkpfic and then defriend it when I finish, no big. The same goes for any multi-chaptered fic I may ever post at tkpfic in the future: there will be header info here on tkp and notifications when it's finished (or something like every 10 chapters, if I ever do anything as long again as Epic of Doom). And the same goes for any other non-Jossverse fic I write: you will be informed of it here. Whether you like it or not. The same goes for when I finish some of my older work. And the same goes for right now, as I post my older stuff: I'm going to be telling you what's going up there, and you can choose to click the fake cuts if it's something that interests you.

The only reason you'd want to friend tkpfic is if you want to read every word of fic I've ever written regardless of fandom or length. Even I don't even really want to do that! Some day, (if [livejournal.com profile] chrisleeoctaves is still up for it) I'm going to have a website and it's going to have my Stuff in it in one place, all the pretty Jossverse fic and hopefully some other crap. Ooh, and essays.

Re: insta!lust.

I'd love to read your POTO fic. I was watching the movie the other night - Gerry, mmmm - and had a gradual epiphany about it.

I...actually haven't done a post on insta!lust yet. I am, in fact, compliming a list of romance novel/shipper fic tropes that just bore me to tears, and insta!lust is what I've named one. I am, in fact, compiling around a dozen posts, very few of which I'll actually post. Just like fic. I don't know why I can't FINISH things /uncalled for whining.

POTO! I actually didn't very much enjoy the movie, but I do love so many of POTO's incarnations. [livejournal.com profile] my_daroga has some excellent POTO fic right here, though if you're only familiar with the Gerard Butler movie, I should warn you hers is mostly book based. The POTO fics I've written might not be quite what you're looking for either. One is a WIP that only got up to 3 chapters that uses influences from the book heavily; the other is based on a published POTO fanfiction, called Phantom, by Susan Kay (if you like POTO you might like that book. It's utter crack, reads like fanfiction, but I mean...if you like crack, it's for you! It's out of print though.)

What was your epiphany?

[identity profile] samsom.livejournal.com 2007-03-03 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, now I really wanna read that romance novel/fanfic trope thingy. I want to know how many we have in common:D A couple of weeks ago, I took a chance and bought a 'romance' from a writer I'm not familar with. I think the chick flicked her hair over her shoulder when 'defying' the hero, while he was trying to tell her what to do with her life, right about page ten, and I was outta there.

I watched the movie POTO primarily for Gerard Butler lust. I saw the play on Broadway on a long ago trip to NY to see my BFF. Back then, I think I was young enough to buy into the romance of it. Now, not so much. Now, under the music and tux, Erik is deeply damaged, most likely beyond repair. And it's not so romantic when your obsession object is less than half your age, and dumb enough to believe the lie you spun about being an angel. Christine is an empty vessel to me, no personality or drive of her own, just something for Erik to pour all his lonliness into, and someone Rauol thought would make a good wife. But this is all from the play and movie versions. I never read Gaston's novel. Though I did read the Kay book once upon a time, I'm vague on the details. I took it for a romance, a 'fix-it' book. So I may like your WIP. Guess there's only one way to find out:D

Hee! Romance novels are a trip. The thing is, though, I used to like some of the conventions (such as insta!lust), but I think that was because I have a romantic soul that was underfed by Harlequinn for years and years, so when I finally got it fed it accepted a lot of things I just *don't* now.

Eeeee! You so should read [livejournal.com profile] my_daroga, then. Kissing The Frog is a great one about the NONromance that is POTO.

I actually *like* the Christine of the Leroux novel. I actually also kinda like the Christine of the ALW musical. However I'm becoming more and more convinced that Emmy Rossum's character is batshit-fuckin-insane.

That's so cool you read Kay! The series of fics I did was actually... "fix-it" for Kay's novel.

I'm posting the POTO fics tomorrow, I think. Thanks for being interested!

Lynne and I were talking about the Lynnevitational...and I speculated (hoped) that you might finish *the* fic for it. Yay!!!

And- yes- any time you want a web site, just say the word.

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know I can get it done. I just have to make myself do it. (re AOLIT)

Thanks sooo much. I think I asked you this before, but: if Octaves hosted it, I'd still be able to build it myself and make it look how I want, right? Ever since you asked I've been trying to plan out how I would want it to look and stuff, because I'm particular about the kind of web sites I like. Octaves itself, for instance, is gorgeous, so easy to navigate, easy to read, professional looking...other websites...aren't...

Your site can be yours to build and maintain- my only contribution will be the space.

That's as I understood it, just wanted to make sure.

Thanks so much for the offer. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

I am so excited to epic B/A crack ifc is almost done!

And no matter how much I love you, I will not read those SoM fics where Maria molests her under age charges. Don't even try to deny it. ([livejournal.com profile] stoney123, otoh, is already salivating.)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Almost done? Um. But! I really think I can get it done by Lynnevitational time.

DUDE. underage!Maria/ Captain, on ff.n, I kid you not (uh, not authored by me). Of course, we all know Friedrich has a crush on Maria. [livejournal.com profile] imnotacommittee knows it; there was noir!Friedrich with French blinds and shadow. *nods* But only [livejournal.com profile] stoney321 would put Maria!Spike in a sparkly unitard for his marriage to Captain Angel (she did go there. Yes she did. With songs. It horrifies me to this day).

Wow, I'm very honored by that. Thank you so much.

[Unknown site tag] offered me space forever ago though, so I already have a little nook if I want. Thanks again, though.

la!!!

You mean I get to read the Jane Austen?! Did you write in Jane Austen?!

Shiny!! So very very very shiny!!
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I wrote Jane Austen! However, they were WIPs that never really got up off the ground.

One was an Emma fic that I think may be lost forever, as it got deleted when the archive I had it on did a big rehaul. But I *think* I have it backed up somewhere.

The other is an S&S fic that I never posted anywhere and I don't think got *anywhere* at *all.*

These were some of my first attempts at fanfiction; I think I would do better with them now. I say "some of my" because I've actually been writing fanfic (without knowing other people did, or what to call it) since I was a little kid, but most of my bitsy!Joykins!fics are lost.

If you *do* want good JA fic though, there was an author on that particular web site I mentioned who was very good at writing romance novel-y kinds; I can link you up to her.

Again, I feel the need to point out that Christie loves B/A. But I'm *so* tickled she likes it. It makes my jellybeans bounce! Because I put a lot of work into it over the last...1 and half years. *sigh*

Imagine my disappointment to find NO POTO FIC ANYWHERE. I am salivating. But I friended you, ha! Because I AM YOUR H0R. Plus, I have a "fanfic" filter, and I usually read a filtered flist anyway (I like to stay joined to certain comms, but don't want to read every post, so ALL my friends are on my "main" filter) so you won't be spamming me.

I'm so excited, though.

I'm going to put it up there! Just, formatting it and stuff! There's not very much of it, anyway. Though I was surprised to find that the WIP had so much Persian in it. I called him Nadir, for lack of a better name. I don't think you'll like him. Hell, I don't like him, now that I know your Persian. My Erik is also not skinny enough; this bothers me. I'm resisting going back and changing parts, now that I have slightly different opinions re: POTO. Also, re: romance tropes. If/when I do pick it back up and write more, I *will* edit it, but I want to post things as they were originally posted. I'm actually...not sure why. Possibly to remediate the fact that I took them down.

I still *really* enjoy the Kay based ficlets I wrote though. Even though they *are* squishy. And wordy. I'll try to put them up tomorrow to serve your excitement, though.

Thanks for the heads up! I friended the community! =)
