Did I shave my legs for this?

I still have much to say. My tongue still feels all tied.

If you have not, I highly recommend that you read this letter to LJ. If you are interested in the questions being asked there, I highly recommend that you sign.

I don't really care what their answers are, because I'm leaving regardless (but I did sign out of morbid curiosity).

I signed too. No idea why. I have to leave this place. I guess it's just that packing up might take a while. Unless of course, they delete me in the interem. Pthbbts.

No idea why

Because it's like watching a train wreck?

Take me a while, too. I haven't even begun to look into how to cross post and transfer journals and all that.

I'd like to do something that'd actually GET me deleted. Just because I'm belligerent like that.

Well, thusfar it's either kiddie porn or BREAST FEEDING ICONS. So you know. Take your pick. *eyerolls times infinity*

I've been following the course of that letter (and signed). While I'm still fence-sitting, the questions raised in that letter are what have me on the fence.

Yeah, to me it's the fact that we've been asking those questions a while now, and haven't gotten straight answers, that is my answer. I just don't want to have to worry about that kinda crap. But I can understand why others are willing to put up with it; there's always some negative you have to accept as a customer. I'm still really eager to see answers to the questions. Have you seen the rumor about not even being able to link to "questionable" material? Still just a rumor, which usually I'm inclined to distrust, but so many ridiculous things have proven true about LJ I wouldn't be surprised.

Psst!

On a completely different note, have you read this yet?

The Reader (http://www.notquiteroyal.net/topgallant/fics/the_reader.html) by Aja (H/D)

I had not read that. I liked it. A LOT.

Speaking of H/D. WHY CAN'T I WRITE A FIC WITH THEM, OMG. I've started 5 different ones, FIVE, and some of them are quite long. Anyway, enough whining--what H/D have you been reading, lately?

In advance thanks, I shall link you some good ones in case you haven't seen 'em:

Business of Saving Souls
The Good guys
and
The If Seive

Let's see... Nothing else on a par with The Reader, but I rather liked The Waters of March (http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=600&chapter=1/) by Duinn-Fionn, and Classic Stigma (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2001665/1/) by Nepenthe.

I've been nursing a creature-fic kink lately, which means I've read several by [livejournal.com profile] beren_writes (her fic links are all in her user info). Her stuff is fairly light but entertaining.

Another one is Awakening to the Dream (http://voxfuriae.livejournal.com/888.html), a very long and complicated WIP by [livejournal.com profile] voxfuriae. I'm a little hesitant to rec it because some of the plot points are utterly cracktastic. (I mean, the Weasley twins as a courting gift to Draco from Voldemort? 0.o ) But the writer has put a lot of thought into the background and mythology, and her OCs are remarkably unSueish.

I did enjoy Business of Saving Souls... *runs off to read the others*

I've read The Waters Of March, and yes liked it. Have you read any of her other fics? I can't remember whether I recced it to you before, but she wrote A 1000 Beautiful Things and I really enjoyed it. It's cracktastic too...there might be um, a modeling agency involved. The sequel is Delicate Sound of Thunder, which was nice, but I didn't like it quite as much. Also by I recommend Never Mind The Bollocks, It's Harry Draco (Shake Your Groove Thing).

Just read Classic Stigma...don't know if I liked it that much, but I have a don't-touch-my-scars-they're-ugly!/but-I-love-you! kink a mile wide. If you have that kink too, there's this fic I read called Incurable. It's non-magic (HP equivalent of all human AU), and I can't really say the characters are really Harry and Draco as we know them, but I really liked it. It was straight up crack hurt/comfort, but I really like that when it's handled in a specific way, and this fic was right up my alley.

Have you read Gold Tinted Spectacles, by [livejournal.com profile] beren_writes? I've started it several times and just could not get into it. Maybe I'll try some other stuff by her.

I'll try that last one too...I don't really care about plot. I mean, I care that it's well done, but the plot can be as crazy or as boring as anyone likes, just so long as there aren't holes and characters are acting in character. The story is just the vehicle to spend time with the people involved, for me.

Thank you! Sorry this is long.

[identity profile] moss6886.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I've read Spectacles, and actually kind of enjoyed it. I wouldn't rate it as one of my favorite fics, though.

I'm actually a sucker for an interesting plot, particularly if the writer is good enough that they can make me believe something farfetched despite myself. Couple that with good characterization and I'm in heaven.

Which makes it occur to me that you may like Oathbreaker (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2473502/1/) by Goblin Cat KC more than Awakening to the Dream. Also a long WIP, it has better characterization, and is not a creaturefic. Generally I have issues with attempting to introduce a second type of magic into Potterdom, but KC makes it work, and I really like her Draco.

[identity profile] moss6886.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I fibbed. Oathbreaker is indeed a creature fic, but unlike most it's rather a side issue...
