phantom of the opera-anime
When I was first getting into POTO, someone linked me to this fanvid someone made of the ALW POTO Overture...dance mix...played over this...anime. I always remembered it forever because 1) it creeped me out. 2) it's utterly fascinating how well this anime seems to fit POTO. 3) I spent hours and hours wondering what the anime could possibly be about. 4) there were skulls and roses and stuff, and sad phan that I am, I get all fascinated by flowers and death.
Anyway, so I mentioned the vid to
my_daroga, and she hadn't seen it before. Thank god for YouTube.

But I'll save it, and come back to it. Thanks, J!

I actually saw it for rent at Blockbuster, of all places, once, and was going to rent it but was with people who Would Not Understand and I didn't have my card, so I thought I'd come back. But then I did and they weren't carrying it any more.

As I said to K below, I actually saw it for rent at Blockbuster but then fate had me over and I never did get it while it was there.
The thing is, I'm not even sure I want to see the actual cartoon; I have so much fun trying to figure out what the plot could possibly be. It's like 2001 Space Odyssey meets POTO.

I love Anime.

Hmmm .... Blood Plus has been really, really good. Basilisk is AMAZING. Trigun is also very good. Love Inuyasha for one of the longer series and also the original Ranma 1/2 episodes. The later series are just ... odd to me. I've been wanting to try Naruto, but no joy yet. I can't seem to manage to keep sync with Full Metal Alchemist, so even though I like it, I'm never quite sure if I know what's going on. Then, of course, there's always movies. Kiki's Delivery Service is tres cute. Spirited Away is probably one o' my favorites.

Anime isn't a genre; it's a medium (like watercolor, oil, fiction, etc.) There are many different genres within anime. I favor the more dramatic stories, in full length movies like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle (all by Hayao Miyazaki), or the modern magical realism tale Tokyo Godfathers, or the poignant and bitter World War II story of the firebombings, Grave of the Fireflies.

Oh my god, J, you are sorely lacking in a fundamental area of good pop culture. This must be remedied.

But you're right--it's so well-done that you THINK that the moment could be sustained.

And for some reason I'll watch vids for almost ANY pairing if it's well done. I'm quite slutty about vids that way, I suppose.

But anyway, yeah, me too, I like well done vids for more pairings than I'll read well done fic for. Part of it's just 'cause vids are short and require less brain power to watch; they are instant gratification.

I don't add people back very often because I have difficulty keeping up with my flist as is, but I tend to visit lots of offlist journals anyway and just reply willy nilly, so I'll be around. Also, you should feel free to defriend me at any time, no problem.
Thanks, and welcome!
