Word-a-day

Does anyone know if there's a comm which gives you a word a day? Like Wordsmith.Org's A.Word.A.Day, which emails you a new word every day and gives you the definition?

If there's not a comm like that: If I made one, would anyone be interested in joining it? If so: I'd be posting a word a day on a comm. It'd supply the word and the definition, and then probably one other thing--such as origin or an example of usage or a picture--depending on the word. I'd be focusing on words that sound really cool, that don't come up on your thesaurus, or are really useful but I don't know them (you might know them, as I have a quite small vocabulary). I'd be looking at Wordie, websites which list cool words, poems, and probably books I'm reading with words I don't know. I'd take submissions if people wanted to share a word they loved.

There would be no commenting or participation required; it'd be more of a 'let's all pick something up as we do our daily flist scanning' type thing. I dream of it being like morning coffee. However, since I'm not good at keeping up with stuff, if people were in the comm and decided they enjoyed it, maybe eventually other people could help post so we could continue to learn a word a day for a long time. Like you'd just have to contribute one post a week, or if it had a lot of members, one post a month, so on. But I'm not asking for that now; maybe if I do do it, it won't be that much work, and I won't feel like I need help. I dunno really how stressful I would find it after a while, but I know I'm willing to try for several months at least.

Lemme know if you'd friend a comm like that, and if we have a few people, I'll start cookin'.

I'd be absolutely into it.

J.R.R. Tolkien once wrote about the discovery of new (Finnish) words: It was like discovering a complete wine-cellar filled with bottles of an amazing wine of a kind and flavour never tasted before. It quite intoxicated me ...

Super!

Tolkien was a very cunning linguist. I'm sure he's coined a word or two that could come up.
