Who's there?

Since I haven't been posting much these days, I don't know how it's happening, but new people keep popping up on the ole flist. So, hi! And I figure it was about time I did one of these.

Tell me about yourself! You can answer the questions, or some of the questions, or none, but tell me something. Even the people who've been here for ages, I'd love you to answer too, or tell me what you're doing these days. Like I said, haven't been all that active in ljland lately, so it'd be nice to hear from everybody. You're also welcome to reply even if you only lurk. I am friendly and only bite if you ask.

What's your name?

What's your favorite season?

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me?

Do you do anything artistic?

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)?

What books do you like to read?

What do you use your lj for?

Cats or dogs? Chocolate or cheese? Robots or aliens? Astronauts or cavemen? Jam or jelly? Coffee or tea?

How old are you?

What do you do?

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there?

Have you met anyone on lj?

What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?)

How was your day today?

Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)?

Icecream. (Icecream is not a question.)

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know?

Three words about you.

Yay.

Hi! I'm Alexis, lurker, freshman at Rice University. I discovered your journal through the Buffy fandom and stuck around for your gen fics. I'm also fond of your Harry/Draco.

I use my lj for the friends list and memory functions. In my interests are the pairings I read that are also found in my memories. I lurk in HP, Buffy, and many animanga fandoms but don't contribute more than the occasional comment.

Fall, cats, blackberry preserves. Quiet, loner, reader. Also, ice cream.

OH EM GEE. I went to Rice. What college are you in? I was at Martel the year it opened. How are you liking it? It's so bizarre because I met someone this summer who was a fish at Rice. Though I guess this year she's a sophomore. It was strange because I live in Seattle, and I met her through my job, which is a very...not the job people who graduate from Rice get. Except for me because apparently I am strange. How are you liking it?

ICE CREAM. It's so true.

I love it when HP fandom and Buffy fandom crossover--I dunno why.

Thanks for telling me a bit about yourself.
ext_7375: Yukina, totally clueless. (clueless)

[identity profile] japanimecrazed.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in Sid Rich. I'm a bit disloyal though, because Martel is my favorite due to the "Martel is not a college!" cheer. I must root for the underdog.

I like Rice well enough. Classes are the best part and socializing the worst. I'm determined not to take a single natural science or math course since I got all my D3's through AP's, so I'm not expecting a normal post-Rice job either.

I like it when any fandoms crossover. A writer I like writing in multiple fandoms. There is no bad.

Thanks for asking.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
When I was at Martel, we didn't have that cheer...I actually started at Lovett, and transferred to Martel when it opened. I don't think we'd formed any cheers by the time I left...My roomie, who transferred there as well (and is now my sister-in-law!) went to Sid Rich. I always preferred, "Rape! Murder! Pillage! Kill! Eat the babies!" to any Lovett cheer. Although admittedly, "Death From Above!" is kinda stupid.

Socializing was my least favorite thing at Rice, too. It surprises me, though, because SO many people at Rice were like, "This is the best atmosphere ever! So easy to make friends!" blah blah blah. And the entire O-Week shananigan is meant to make everything so easy for you...but for someone like me, who didn't party and didn't drink, and was turned off on the other hand by all the intellectual conversation populated by snooty people who thought they were so cultured and smart...it was really hard. So. With ya, there!

I had to take a couple science/math courses, since I only got three hours through APs, but I took Rocks for Jocks and Astronomy, so no sweat. Still, I think a lot of the academs go on to do something where they . . . I dunno, at least make more than $9 an hour! But, it's not like I plan to do what I'm doing forever. What are you majoring in, or do you know?
ext_7375: Tsuzuki, OMG yaaaay. (they say that hero can save us)

[identity profile] japanimecrazed.livejournal.com 2008-09-30 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Eat the babies" is the catchiest cheer, but that's not a good thing in my book. I had it stuck in my head last night, so it took me forever to fall asleep.

O-week was good the first day, and then everyone split into friendships and I was left all alone. On the positive side, I was the only person who felt well-rested by the end of the week, and my suitemates don't mind me following them around whenever I feel the need for human interaction.

I have no idea what I want to do with the rest of my life, so I figured I'd major in whatever I feel like and figure the rest out later. At the moment I'm considering Asian Studies, Psych, and Linguistics. I might just do all three since those are the only areas I really want to take classes in anyway. What did you major in? Any recs for interesting classes?
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2008-09-30 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I was an English major, and I loved lit, so pretty much all of my lit classes were awesome. One of the best was taught by Alan Grob, who recently died. Which sucks (on many levels, but selfishly) as he was doing all of my recommendations.

If Justin Cronin is still doing Creative Writing, you should get him.
If you can get Zammito for any history course, do.
Scott McGill is the most awesome Latin teacher ever (again, if you can get anything with him, I would).
I took a Greek Civ class that was awesome, but that was because it was mostly Greek lit, and now I can't find the prof...
Is Terrance Doody your advisor? His post-modern lit class isn't the best (and he isn't the best prof), but the books we read in there were AWESOME (er, though dense).

I can possibly put you in touch with some people who majored in psych and linguistics (my sister-in-law) if you really want to talk to someone. But I understand the whole undecided thing.

Another thing that helped me socially was studying abroad. I didn't have many friends at Rice so I didn't feel like I was missing out, and it was a wonderful experience. (I just went to the UK).

O-Week happened like that for me too. And it was weird because my roomies and suitemates didn't seem to want to be friends. I personally have a hard time living with people I'm not close to.
ext_7375: Tsuzuki, OMG yaaaay. (OMG glomp attack)

[identity profile] japanimecrazed.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the class recs; I'll definitely look into some of those. Professor Kemmer is my advisor, and she's great to talk to, but she didn't know much about classes not related to ling or psych.

I am considering studying abroad. I'd prefer to go to Japan, but that relies on me learning Japanese, and I'm really bad with languages. I'd be happy with either the UK, Australia, or New Zealand too.

[identity profile] zibbycomix.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm here and I want to answer your questions, so here goes! =)
My name- I don't want to use my real name, so just call me Zibby for short. =)
My favorite season- Spring!
Where I found you- I found you via marmalade_fish, which, if I haven't said it before, is an amazingly awesome title. =)
Why I friended you- To be perfectly honest, you seemed like a really cool and nice person. =) (Plus I loved your icon!)
Do I do anything artistic- Well, I have a dream journal and a diary, both of which I have covered with pictures and words that I cut out of magazines. It's kind of like scrapbooking, but on a smaller scale. I also run a creative writing program at the library I work at for 2nd through 5th grade.
What fandom am I in- Harry Potter!
What books do I like to read- Fantasy!
What I use my LJ for- To post what I've written on my blog. And to read other people's blogs and fanfic. =)
Cats or dogs- I love dogs more, but I'm allergic to both of them. =(
Chocolate or cheese- Chocolate! In fact, I know a whole song about chocolate and I could sing it to you. =)
Robots or aliens- Um... robots? Just because of the LJ user robot_club.
Astronauts or cavemen- Astronauts because they're incredibly intelligent AND sexy (or at least they are in Armageddon).
Jam or jelly- Jelly. I've never understood jam.
Coffee or tea- Tea, because I rarely drink coffee, and because it makes me all comfy and cozy. =)
How old I am- 24, nearing 25 (Ahhh!)
What I do- I work in a library. =)
What are some of my interests on my interest list- Johnny Depp and chocolate.
Why they are there- Need I say more?
Have I met anyone on LJ- No, not unless you count the people I already knew in RL beforehand.
What fannish projects I do- I've written fanfic. (Gasp! Shock and horror!)
How was my day- Very good; thanks for asking. =)
Who has a really good voice- Alan Rickman. If he would talk to me for all eternity, I would be soooo happy. =D
Icecream- Must include chocolate! =)
Who are other people I talk about on my journal you may not know- Well, I've told you about lepusdomesticus before (my BFF in RL), but you don't know her. Also, I think you might like cloudlessnights (who I don't know in RL), if you haven't heard of her before. She is a Buffy fan, along with House and Supernatural. Plus she makes pictures (well, computer images) with Harry Potter sims! =)
Three words about me- I am zany! =P =)
Yeah! I enjoyed doing that. =)

I think marmalade fish must be why I keep getting friended...

I know a song about chocolate and cheese.

Here is how to understand jam: it is better than jelly. Also! Sound of Music.

It's funny you work in a library! I met [livejournal.com profile] my_daroga through lj, and I moved to Seattle to live with her. She's a librarian too. And even though she doesn't look like your icon, it's true what they say :o)

Alan Rickman's voice is awesome.

Am currently reading the book Dog Days by John Levitt. After 40 pages, the main character Mason meets up with Victor, who no only regards himself as the head of 'The Magical Bureau of Investigation' (MBI, LOL)but also happens to be 1)Dangerous 2)Attractive and 3)Gay. Am dfinitely hooked on the book now XD

Mason might not claim to be gay but...there is definitely sparkage and humor and OOOOOOOH SLASH POSSIBLITIES *_* In my slashy mind at least XD

Cats, Both, Both, Neither, Neither, Coffee XD

22 yrs as of yesterday \o/

Am listening to Jason Mraz's I'm Yours - can't believe it's been out since 2005 and I only *just* heard it D:

*runs off to get cake out of fridge* foooood....

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds like an awesome book. *adds to list*

Neither jam NOR jelly? What do you do with yourself? Much less your toast?

OMG a very merry unbirthday, to you (to you?) to you! Sorry I missed it :o)

I don't think I've heard that song...possibly I don't even know who Jason Mraz is. See! I'm way more out of touch than you.

CAKE. Is good. I hope you had ice cream as well, because that's important.

Thanks for answering some questions!

What's your name? Stef

What's your favorite season? Spring

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me? Through [livejournal.com profile] my_daroga. You had interesting rants.

Do you do anything artistic? Write, play mountain dulcimer, draw

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)? I'm not really "in" any fandoms right now, although the closest I come is Phantom of the Opera.

What books do you like to read? Ones which are amusing and erudite. Right now I'm really enjoying Theodore Roszak's Flicker.

What do you use your lj for? Writing, socializing

Cats or dogs? Chocolate or cheese? Robots or aliens? Astronauts or cavemen? Jam or jelly? Coffee or tea?

Cats.
Cheese.
Robots.
Cavemen (meeooowrrrr...)
Jam.
Tea.

How old are you? LOL, probably old enough to be most peoples' mother.

What do you do? Write. Keep house.

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there? Two fun ones: Waldorf education and visionary art. I was involved for a time with a Waldorf school here (children went for a few years), and really like the educational philosophy. I like the strange psychological landscapes of visionary art.

Have you met anyone on lj? Yes, a few people.

What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?) Write fanfiction.

How was your day today? Not so hot, but I'm hanging in there.

Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)? Baritone Schuler Hensley.

Icecream. (Icecream is not a question.) Damn right. Ice cream is an imperative. Mine happens to be chocolate almond.

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know? Probably mostly my family members, especially Mr. B.

Three words about you.

Right now: wistful, nostalgic, regretful

Yay. Indeed!
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You play mountain dulcimer? Rock on! I didn't know that.

What's Flicker about?

I liked your post about keeping house today.

What's Waldorf education?

I hope your day was better today?

<3

[identity profile] stefanie-bean.livejournal.com 2008-09-30 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I play it the old fashioned way, with a "slider" (piece of wood) that I move up and down the frets. More refined (and musically astute) people finger it like a lute or guitar, but I am a barbarian. Well, not quite - if I really was, I'd use a chicken bone instead of a piece of wood ... :D

Flicker is about this guy who is a film student, and then a film expert, who comes under the sway of the late (and fictional) German expressionist filmmaker Max Castle, who is up to some kind of funny business involving special effects and the "fusion" rate of the human eye, where images seen at 1/24th of a second blur into motion. There are conspiracies afoot ... as well as a delightful if all too brief Orson Welles sighting.

Waldorf schools were first set up in Germany in the 1920s. It's based on a very artistic and humanistic philosophy (kind of mystical too.)

Thanks - glad you liked the housekeeping post. I will probably do more of those. :D

What books do you like to read? Sci-fi and fantasy and nature-writing.

What do you use your lj for? Keeping in touch with far-away friends and general journalling.

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there? Because they are interesting. ;)

Have you met anyone on lj? I know a good number of people from LJ in real life and I have even met a few of the people I only knew from LJ.

How was your day today? Fantastic and exhausting. Hiked 8 miles, saw amazing mountains and two bears.

Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)? huh, I've never thought about this before. A lot of people, actually.

Icecream. (Icecream is not a question.) Ice cream is not a question because the answer is always "Yes!"

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know? hmm, the main one of note is [livejournal.com profile] jazzfish who is my awesome boyfriend who lives on the east coast.

Autumn is mine too.

How have your classes been going? I want to hear all about them!

BEARS. I can't believe you went hiking and saw bears! That sounds like so much fun. I need to go hiking more.

I'm not really the sort to think an actor/ess is hot because of how they look...but I totally am when it comes to how they speak...Same with people, really, which can get me into trouble. HAHA. Look how I said actors aren't people there. That was very sensitive of me.

YAY icecream! It's so true.

Classes have been going great! We've actually not been having much outright lecture time. Classwork has been consisting of lots of teaching children which is so awesome and rewarding and I'm learning oodles about teaching from all the hands-on experiences. We've got a bunch of other projects for class which I am procrastinating on this very moment! Woo!

I'm going to be visiting Seattle this weekend! Saturday through Wednesday morning! Do you think you might be free at any point to hang out?

Well, HELLO there!

Name: Sue
Season: Autumn
Found You: You know this, because of your comprehensive "I love fandom" post, then "Blood Types."
Artistic: Scrapbooker, cupcake bedazzler, yeoman geese-juggler
Fandoms: In -- Buffyverse. About -- SPN, HP, TW, QAF and other abbreviated amusements.
Books: Historical fiction, witty essayists, Asian biographies (I have a weird thing about India. It's a thing! I'm also batshit about Canada and Turkey.)
My LJ is Used For: My massive narcissistic pic-spamming. I HAD A BABY, DID YOU KNOW??? Occasional human interest pieces, Buffyverse nostalgia.
Cats and dogs. Chocolate and cheese. ALIENS!! Cavemen. Jelly. Tea.
I am one year younger than David Boreanaz. We both moisturize.
Currently I read recipes and change diapers. It's very Donna Reed here. Eventually I will go back to explaining to students that they must maintain at least a 1.8 GPA to progress...
I can think of three of my interests: William Blake, monkeys and fan dancing. William Blake because hello -- I'm obviously cool, monkeys because they're AWESOME and French and fan dancing because it's funny.
I have met a cubic butt-ton of people from LJ, including YOU!
I used to write fic. Now I just call up my BFF-LJ (and fellow SPN fan) and tease her with fic I COULD write, but won't.
Today was a good day (I'm sidestepping the obvious Ice-Cube ref I could make here.) I saw my in-laws, I bought picture frames. I had chocolate.
Writer voice? Stoney or Germaine_pet. Singing voice? Um...Stevie Nicks?
I bought both Brownie Batter ice cream and Cake Batter ice cream today. Braums ROCKS. Don't you wish you were still in Texas?
Er....you know my Buffy people. *I* don't know my SPN people, so let's just say you're in the loop. Oh! Kittyzams. She's awesome and lives near you. *stalker*

Hi! I miss you. Your geese juggling. Your quietly subversive icons.

I sort of have a weird thing about India, or did. Have you seen Far Pavilions?

I love your pic-spamming. Jonah is adorableness. But then, you knew that.

By fan dancing do you mean NAKED? We saw one at a burlesque here. It was cool because they were doing a "tributes to famous women of burlesque" show. The fan dance one, they told us about the history of the tradition of that dance. A lot of the other ones weren't tributes to actually brulesque performers, like they did Lucille Ball, because of her physical and stage comedy, and Marilyn Munroe, because MARILYN MUNROE. But they also did Miss Piggy. Yes, someone dressed as Miss Piggy, stripping to Miss Piggy. They had 6 pasties, yay.

Chocolate. YAY. And you will have more tomorrow. BRAUMS? Who cares? Can't you get BLUEBELL where you are? I went to visit my brand new nephew earlier this month (I am an aunt! Did you know that? Isaac my nephew was born shortly before Jonah), and everyone kept asking about him and how my brother and s-i-l was and the trip and everything, and my answer was pretty much, "Great, AND I GOT BLUEBELL AND CHIK-FIL-A EVERY DAY."

Femme says she comes to visit Kittyzams occasionally. So maybe she will visit me?

Organic chili jalapeno blue potato chips make me worry. Can you count?

I <3 you, and think of you and yours often.

Congratulations on the new nephew!! I love the name. Issac was under consideration here, as was Judah. It was very Old Testament-y.

*hums Carmina Burana* Bluebell - pfft. Braums all the way. Although Chik-Fil-A...yum!! We are still planning to be in WA next July. I will get you deets as it gets closer!!

What's your name? Elisabeth

What's your favorite season? Um... summer I guess. (When it's sunny, that is. Not a guarantee here in the UK)

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me? 'Man's Best Friend' - I think. Or maybe your B/A manifesto.

Do you do anything artistic? I draw/paint (did an art foundation course, might still go to college one day), writing.

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)? BtVS, AtS, Doctor Who, Torchwood.

What books do you like to read? Sci-fi, fantasy - fiction generally. I tend to go for writers rather than genre though.

What do you use your lj for? Keeping up with LJ friends, to post & read fic, to wallow in fannishness and procrastinate.

Cats or dogs? Chocolate or cheese? Robots or aliens? Astronauts or cavemen? Jam or jelly? Coffee or tea? Cats, chocolate, aliens (although robots aren't bad), cavemen every time, jam, tea.

How old are you? 31. (Dear Lord, I had to think about that one. *is getting old*)

What do you do? The PC word these days is apparently 'houseperson'. *snerk* I stay at home and attempt to keep the house tidy despite having three adorable little monsters girls under 10.

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there? *thinks* Lots of British comedies (Black Books, Blackadder, Father Ted, Red Dwarf, The Mighty Boosh etc.), lots of films (Blades of Glory! Thunderpants!) and of course Noel Fielding's Hair. (The Mighty Boosh is one of the most awesome things *ever*. Here's a tiny taster.)

Have you met anyone on lj? [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan and [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna. Both wonderful. /huge understatement.

What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?) Fic. Lots and lots of fic.

How was your day today? Barely started. (It's almost 9 am)

Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)? Uh... John Barrowman. Oh and my husband. Classically trained and everything! No link for him though.

Icecream. Yes. Oh yes.

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know? [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge is one.

Three words about you. Fangirl, mother, Christian. (Sounds awfully square. Maybe I should swap 'fangirl' for 'slasher'?)

I have cats, had a dog and would like another one. Coffee and tea are good. Bluebell ice cream is fantastic.

Various. Right now I'm reading a sci-fi novel (A Space Aunty by Elena Haetskaya), a somewhat historical overview of the idea of God (A History of God by Karen Armstrong) and a category in itself, Umberto Eco's The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana.
(And yes, I can't focus on one thing for a long time)

What do you use your lj for?
In practice, to keep a friendlist, in theory, to practice writing in English. Ha.

Cats or dogs? Chocolate or cheese? Robots or aliens? Astronauts or cavemen? Jam or jelly? Coffee or tea?
Cats, cheese, aliens, astronauts, jam, tea.

How old are you?
25

What do you do?
I translate. Mainly stuff no one will ever read, rarely stuff for people who could've understand it, but have no time for such petty things as learning languages.

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there?
(I had to go check; now I have to stop me from updating my profile!)
'deathless vs immortal' - the first implies lack of state (live forever because you cannot achieve the state of death), the second - lack of property (live forever because you lack the inherent quality of mortality). I find it fascinating that in different languages either only one of these two words exists, or one is preferred (in English it's generally immortal, in Russian it's only deathless).
And Henry Lion Oldie is a wonderful duo of Russian fantasy writers, and I'd say that they should be translated in many languages and read all over the world, but quite often they're way too culture-specific (also their language would be a nightmare to translate, it's way quirky).

Have you met anyone on lj?
Not from LJ, but I have met people I first got to know online.

How was your day today?
Uneventful, thanks for asking =)

Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)?
Stephen Fry.

Icecream. (Icecream is not a question.)
Sorry, but no. Chronic colds. Humid climate. Just say NO.

Three words about you.
Currently: tired, planning and optimistic.

TKP - my life got sucked into fic-writing, and once I finished that, RL was striking back again. I promised myself to start posting "Words of the Day" again, starting next Wednesday.

What's your name? Lisa
What's your favorite season? Hard one, I love them all, for all the predictable reasons, spring for the bright green of new leaves, summer for the afternoon sunlight and heat, autums for the colourful leaves, the cider and onion tarts, winter for snow-covered streets in crisp-clear, cold nights.
How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me? I friended you because of "Now that the Shining Sun is Up" and I am staying for the brilliance of your writing. And your sharp wit ;-).
Do you do anything artistic? Um ... I write.
What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)? Harry Potter, LotR, and I dabble in Alexander/Hephaistion
What books do you like to read? Adult and YA fantasy with a gendered edge, historical novels ... I like all kinds of books, but usually prefer popular genres.
What do you use your lj for? fanfiction, flist
Cats or dogs? Chocolate or cheese? Robots or aliens? Astronauts or cavemen? Jam or jelly? Coffee or tea? cats, cheese, aliens, cavemen, jam, both
How old are you? 45
What do you do? editor, translator, creative writing teacher, plus I sometimes write romances for a living
What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there? I adore Ang Lee's movies - it's sheer genius for me, in all their subtle aesthetic sensibilies. I wish I could write like that man makes movies.
Have you met anyone on lj? I met quite a few people in real life who I got to know on LJ. [livejournal.com profile] caraloup has become a very close friend.
What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?) write fanfic
How was your day today? I went to a Sunday clothes sale, got to new pairs of trousers and two real wool sweaters for 150 EUR, yeah! And I voted on whether in the entire center of Berlin there will be huge parking fees introduced. And I had a lot of coffee. It was a spectacular autumn Sunday in Berlin today.
Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)? Loreena McKennit.
Icecream. (Icecream is not a question.) Mandarin chocolate
Three words about you. short-sighted, fast-speaking, over-achiever (and failing at times)

:D ... you asked for this.
Greetings from Procrastination Central

[identity profile] markeyisapunk.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
What's your name?

markey

What's your favorite season?

when I was a kid, summer. in college, fall. nowadays, probably summer, but I'm not really sure.

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me?

I think it was originally through buffy fandom :)

Do you do anything artistic?

many things--all badly. I write fanfiction, do pottery (mostly sculpture, but some wheel-thrown). I used to sing. I make collages. and I'm obsessed with junk art but never find time/energy/confidence to make it.

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)?

buffy fandom will always have my heart. I was there first. it sucked me in like the rabbit-hole and showed me a whole new world inhabited by some amazing and gifted people. I got fairly explore-y in the harry potter fandom, which is also rich and amazing. I've done scouting missions in twilight, howl's moving castle, doctor who, x-files, and bionic woman fandoms. I haven't come to rest in any of those places, though.

What books do you like to read?

surreal fiction--stuff like lewis shiner and lisa carey and haruki murakami where you don't know if things are happening because of magic or psychology. also straight fantasy world stuff, but I don't love most of the pulp fantasy going around today.

What do you use your lj for?

keeping in touch (badly) with the buffy fandom and friends who are out of state.

Cats or dogs? Chocolate or cheese? Robots or aliens? Astronauts or cavemen? Jam or jelly? Coffee or tea?

cats, both, aliens, both, jam, tea... definitely tea.

How old are you?

34

What do you do?

scientist, as in, "back off man, I'm a scientist!"

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there?

I removed them all when lj went crazy and expunged the "dirty" people from lj based on their interests. I wasn't one of them, but it still made me feel less inclined to share with big brother...

Have you met anyone on lj?

sort of. I've "met" people in the online, but not rl sense.

What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?)

way too many to list! my current favorite is fantas_magoria: http://community.livejournal.com/fantas_magoria/profile

How was your day today?

eh. I'm not excited about going to work tomorrow, but on the other hand, I just read volume 2 of the s8 btvs comic :)

Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)?

no one jumps out.

Icecream. (Icecream is not a question.)

the answer is strawberries and bananas and whipped cream.

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know?

siblings, mostly.

Three words about you.

more outgoing offline.

[identity profile] scribesds.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
What's your name?
Dark Star.

What's your favorite season?
Autumn

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me?
Um… you friended me, I think…?

Do you do anything artistic?
I wouldn't say I was artistic but I do write and attempt to make some graphics

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)?
Angel/BtVS - possibly Torchwood.

What books do you like to read?
Fiction. Paranormal romance, fantasy, historical, some mystery. I don't read as much as I should do.

What do you use your lj for?
Keeping up with new stories and finding out what online friends have been up to.

Cats or dogs? Cats. We have two…
Chocolate or cheese? - I adore both, as long as the cheese is strong
Robots or aliens? - aliens. Robots freak me out.
Astronauts or cavemen? - In what context? I can't like both?
Jam or jelly? - both. Jam is nice in a sandwhich and jelly is great with icecream.
Coffee or tea? - Definitely coffee. I don't like tea (and I'm English!)

How old are you?
52

What do you do?
As little as possible

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there?
Some of the things mentioned here are on my list and they're there because… well, I like them…

Have you met anyone on lj?
Not yet.

What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?)
Oh, good grief. I write, make wallpapers and avatars, etc. Ran a B/A Advent Calendar for the last two years and I run: Scribes of Angel, (http://scribes.darkstarfic.com/) Project Paranormal (http://project.darkstarfic.com/) (and [livejournal.com profile] projectpara) Blood Roses (http://roses.darkstarfic.com/) (and the accompanying B/A forum,) White Carousel (http://carousel.darkstarfic.com/) and now, a new fan project with [livejournal.com profile] chrisleeoctaves called Phantasmagoria. (http://community.livejournal.com/fantas_magoria/) Sadly, I've had to scale down my fan involvement due to time restrictions.

How was your day today?
Fine, thank you. How was yours?

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know?
My family.

Three words about you.
Quiet, reserved, Angel-fixated.

HI J.

I MISS YOU.

[identity profile] grey-hunter.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
What's your name? -- I prefer not to share. People get used to call me "stray" or "grey" whichever you like.

What's your favorite season? -- Um... CSI Miami season 4? XD Okay, usually I'd say Autumn. Except now because it is autumn and I'd rather it were spring.

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me? -- um... fic. And Kes. But you knew that.

Do you do anything artistic? -- well, not quite, but I have a keyboard and I'm not afraid to use it.

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)? -- lots. But mostly HP.

What books do you like to read? -- interesting ones *g*

What do you use your lj for? -- You mean outside of my username defining my identity? To read my f-list, find fics and sometimes to post fic.

Cats or dogs? -- never eaten either.
Chocolate or cheese? -- both
Robots or aliens? -- Borg!
Astronauts or cavemen? -- astronauts drawn on cave walls by cavemen
Jam or jelly? -- no idea.
Coffee or tea? -- both

How old are you? -- will be 32 soon-ish

What do you do? -- typing on keyboard, procrastinating

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there? these They're there because I put them there. Is there another way? O.o

Have you met anyone on lj? -- nope. Most people on my f-list live in different continents.

What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?) -- fic, sometimes icons or manips. I'd love to be able to draw...

How was your day today? -- boooring and busy. Worst combination evah.

Three words about you. -- ignorance is bliss?

Yay. -- okay, yay.

What's your favorite season?
You know, this is harder to answer than I thought it would be - I'm going to have to go with "some part of all of them": daffodils, and new peas, and peaches, and that crisp fall smell, and scarfling through fallen leaves, and the moon on snow...but not mold or mud or mosquitoes or weather that freezes my hair in the mornings.

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me?
You friended me, but we jabbered at each other around [livejournal.com profile] stultiloquentia's place, first.

Do you do anything artistic?
I'm taking this as just plain artistic, not artistic and *good*, too. Hmmm. I sing almost all the time, without really thinking about it (sorry, cubicle neighbors, so, so, sorry!). I gesture dramatically. I can cook!

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)?
I'm your classic serial monogamist, with occasional date nights; I used to be in a fandom for just about exactly three months, and then, poof! so over it! Right now I'm hanging out in due South, with forays into the associated Fandoms for Canada, SGA, and SPN. Every so often I can still be lured in by HP, Buffy & Angel, and (very infrequently) West Wing. I *would* be all over Slings & Arrows, if I weren't gloriously terrified by the thought of dealing with the source.

What books do you like to read?
Fiction, mostly. I say I'm a science fiction fan, but if you took strict account of what I read most, I'd look like a fantasy fan. I've been reading a lot of short story collections lately; I recommend Theodora Goss' In the Forest of Forgetting. Once or twice a year I go on a non-fiction kick; that can cover anything from anthropology to literary criticism to political science, but rarely the hard sciences.

Cats or dogs? Chocolate or cheese? Robots or aliens? Astronauts or cavemen? Jam or jelly? Coffee or tea?

Cats; I....I...don't make me choose!; Robots; Astronauts; Jam; Coffee

What do you do?
I'm a music librarian; further details are omitted (here, anyway), because my job is too unusual to make for good anonymity.

Have you met anyone on lj?
Have I met people *through* LJ, or do I know people IRL and also here? Yes, and yes.

What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?)
Occasional recs, and I'm so much better about commenting than I used to be that it's not even funny.

How was your day today?
Urgh. Doing things just to make library administration happy may pay off in the long run, but it's a waste of my time *now*. Also, my alarm clock is broken.

Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)?
Bearing in mind where I'm spending my fandom time these days...Paul Gross (speaking, not singing...those music videos are oh god mortifyingly bad).

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know? Hmmm. I don't talk about people that much. [livejournal.com profile] medeajane is a friend from college who taught most of us how to *be* friends through cuss-headed determination (and by being really good at it herself).

Yay.

What's your name? Sophia! (or thosewerepearls)

What's your favorite season? Spring (its my birthday)

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me? You founded the Godfather fanfiction community (that's empty, which is a tragedy)

Do you do anything artistic? Yes! I write! (Some Godfather fanfiction)

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)? Godfather, House MD, Daily Show/Colbert Report, misc.

What books do you like to read? Everything? No. Jane Eyre is my favorite. I like a lot of most-modern work though. The Unbearable Lightness of Being pretty much changed my life.

How old are you? Sixteen turning seventeen.

What do you do? School? yay.

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know? Um...

Three words about you. I'm not pithy.

Joy! It's Tracy from Lucy! Can I lj stalk you? I've read several of your posts and I find you just as witty and nerdy and delightful here as I did at the Science Center. And since I'm a sucker for answering random questions about myself:

What's your name? Tracy

What's your favorite season? Fall

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me? I actually was looking for information about the free passes at the Science Center and I found a post you'd made giving them to happy recipients. I thought the wording of your post sounded familiar and I investigated.

Do you do anything artistic? I draw, I paint, I write (poorly), I make things out of other things, I cook... I wear many hats.

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)? Oh, god... I'm not terribly active in any of them anymore, sadly, but I'm into Harry Potter, Firefly, Lord of the Rings (still, I know...) a couple of more beloved anime from my past. It's all pretty slashy, either way.

What books do you like to read? You already know some of this. ;) Tom Robbins is my hero. I greatly enjoyed the Abhorsen series, even if Garth Nix needs to learn how to write somewhat more satisfying endings to his novels. I love Robin McKinley and Tom Holt and I've re-read the Princess Bride so many times that my latest copy (#3!) is starting to shed pages.

What do you use your lj for? Stalking my friends mostly, these days. I've been trying to get back into regular updates about my boring life. I think I might start adding in more movie reviews and recipes or something, since I love movies and I love cooking.

Cats or dogs? Chocolate or cheese? Robots or aliens? Astronauts or cavemen? Jam or jelly? Coffee or tea? Cats, cheese (but it's a REALLY close decision), robots, cavemen, jam, tea.

How old are you? 24

What do you do? I am currently unemployed! So I spend a lot of time playing the Sims and eating out of the huge box of Kinder Bueno my sister got me for my birthday.

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there? Anthony Bourdain because I worship him, lesbians because I've dated them, various shows and things... I really need to update it. I'm going to do that after I post this. AND FRIEND YOU PRE-CONSENT BWAHAHAHA!

Have you met anyone on lj? If you mean that I've friended/been befriended by strangers that I've gotten to know online fairly well, yes. But I haven't met someone on lj and then carried that relationship into real life.

What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?) Mostly, I read voraciously. I have written some fanfiction. It's all been categorically awful, but at least some of it was fully intended to be that way (such as my infamous "Rosie and the Balrog") I've made some simple icons for my personal use, but have never posted them anywhere. I'm pretty much just a lurker.

How was your day today? Oh, pretty good, I guess. Didn't really do much. Yours?

Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)? Liam Neeson. Oh, god, Liam Neeson...

Icecream. (Icecream is not a question.) Delicious! (Delicious is not an answer)

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know? Tammy is my sister. Micky is my brother. Justin is my boyfriend. There have been two Kais in my life, that rarely get mention but one Kai is still a close friend to me and he does come up occasionally.

Three words about you. Arty, loquacious, ebullient

HAHAHAH OMG. So I was skimming through comments and saw something that said "Science Center" and I immediately went, "Oh shit!" in my head. RL people finding my lj is always a fear. Or actually, sometimes an embarrassment. More accurately, rarely a twinge, but hey, who's accurate? I actually have two people from PSC on here already. One saw me lj'ing at Reception, and was all, "hey, you have an lj?" and I went, "Oh shit!" because mostly my lj is porn. And another PSC person started talking about "someone she knows online who lives in Ireland who's got a book deal" and I was like, "you're talking about that Harry Potter fanfic author, aren't you!" and she was all blushy and like, "no no no I just read her book reviews" but later we outed each other as total Harry/Draco whores. I love my secret life, T.

Anywho, yay! Totally am friending you back (without your permission! But you win on stalker creds for finding me first :o(

Hats rock! Cooking rocks! Did you ever go to Sonya's cooking nights? I'm glad she and Shasta are still at PSC. I am sad you are now jobless :o( That sucks. Apply for Camp In!

I . . . am fascinated by this Rosie and the Balrog. If it is anything like Spike and Mr. Gordo, I am there . . . but I seem to remember Buffy wasn't your thing. I still need to try Garth Nix! And Tom Robbins. Don't think I know Tom Holt . . .

Agree re: Liam Neeson. I die, I die ded. He's hotsauce. Emma Thompson once described him as sex on legs.

My day was good so far! Except I'm sick in bed! But I got bagels and ate them at the park. I ...actually didn't go outside at the park. I sat in my car and listened to NPR. But I pretended I was outside, and made flapping seal noises. And I got stuff for Rice Krispy treats, the peanutbutter kind. And tonight I'm going to make housemates watch the show with King David because I love King David. He's perfect poster boy bi fucked up adulterous son-killing love.

Which anime?

Hi hi hi!

[identity profile] nani.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
No worries about porny lj. It's one of your charms. I'd actually been having some withdrawal since one of my reliable ficcy friends left lj for good some months back. Think of yourself as filling a painful void in my soul.

I went to ONE Sonya cooking night, which is a shame, since I love cooking so and I love Sonya and you'd think that I'd be all over that like white on rice, but I just never manage to get off my ass and go. I'll investigate Camp-In, for certain!

Rosie and the Balrog is exactly what it sounds like. It's Sam's Rosie. And the Balrog. And they get it on. It's pretty much completely epic, if I do say so myself.

Yes, try Garth Nix. Try Tom Robbins, DEFINITELY try Tom Holt. He's very dry and funny and extremely British. "Paint Your Dragon" is one of my favorite stories of his.

I love your tales of park-going, Joy. You're amazing. I'm sorry that you're sick, though! My sickeness-healing thoughts are aimed firmly at you from afar!

Anime... Well, there's Gundam Wing, Rurouni Kenshin, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Record of Lodoss War (where the hot elf chick is totally gay because I HATE her love interest in the show, dammit!), Fushigi Yuugi, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, and I have to admit a deep love in my heart for Gravitation thanks to its utter ridiculousness. There's also Trigun, His and Hers Circumstances, Sailor Moon (I know, I know! But it's Sailor Moon! And the live-action series is a thing of beauty and wonder!), Fruits Basket, Haunted Junction, Speed Racer... Just a lot of somewhat older shows. I don't like a great deal of the newer stuff. It all sort of strikes me as lazy. I used to be one of the great unwashed Otaku, squealing out Japanisms and acting as much like Duo Maxwell as it's possible to do in public.

Now I'm going to think happy, happy thoughts about Liam Neeson and hope that my boyfriend doesn't notice my distraction.

FEEL BETTER, YOU!

It's actually not that porny. I was just embarrassed because Science Center/porn, no mix-y! But I don't really care in your case, because I already knew you were a fan. Fans don't count; they porn it all up wherever they go.

Link for the Rosie/Balrog?

HEE. We should go to the park, obviously. We should hang out; that would salt the rim of my margarita, totally.

Evangelion rocks my socks. I sat there and rocked in a corner for like two days after I finished it. I don't watch much anime, the housemates feed me things they think I would like. Right now we are watching Touch, which is 80s anime about twins who play baseball. One of the best things I've ever seen, really. Mostly because the main character defies any sort of categorization . . . sort of like Howl from Diana Wynne Jones, if you've read her at all. Anywho, I asked about anime because I would like to try some more; I've heard Firefly was influenced by Cowboy Bebop (so says Adrian in Animal Care). I've heard of some of the ones you've mention but seen rather few.

It's so weird we're talking about Liam Neeson. There was stuff about him on the radio because his wife just died. It's really sad!

[identity profile] nani.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, she died! I'd heard she had been in a terrible accident and might end up with permanent brain damage, but she DIED?! That's awful! Poor Liam Neeson. I think we should comfort him forthwith.

Now, did you see Evangelion as is, or did you watch End of Evangelion? Because if you haven't seen End of Eva, you need you. We will watch it. I'm one of those obnoxious people who hates the original ending and I will not watch the last couple of episodes. I instead reach for my handy-dandy End of Eva and watch that. I much prefer it.

And yes, I'm on my second copy of Howl's Moving Castle since I've read it so much. ;) The Miyazaki movie based on it is AMAZING and you need to see it if you haven't. It's not a pure adaptation of the book, but I love it so much as its own story that it's one of my favorite movies. It's like if two really good writers were given a basic prompt, a list of characters, and some key events that they had to work into a story and they each came with something based on that information, you'd get the book and movie for Howl's Moving Castle.

I'm not surprised to hear that Firefly was inspired by Cowboy Bebop. I hadn't thought about it and now I don't know WHY I hadn't. It makes a lot of sense. That's a REALLY fantastic show, by the way. I'd venture to say it changed my life.

I admit that that I'm rather an anime snob and I'm pretty picky about what I watch, so I think I can assure you that the series I listed there are all pretty good quality shows. The only crap I really love is this show called Gakuen Heaven: Boy's Love Hyper! which is just HILARIOUS in its awfulness.

All of this totally results in an agreement that we should totally hang out. :D

So I haven't added you to my flist or anything, but you're on my mom's flist as I mentioned in another comment, and since I find you interesting you are now in the category of people I actually look for when I am bored and reading Mom's flist, and I thought I would introduce myself.

Before I get into it, when you say "landlord’s daughter" is one of your interests, do you mean the song that's in Wicker Man (original awesome version) and is all about what lies between her left toe and her right toe? Because that's an awesome song.

What's your name? anna (Mom, aka Julia_here, calls me Little Miss Perfect and "the copy-editor I gave birth to" among other things.)

What's your favorite season? I'm not sure anymore. Right before this winter I decided my favorite was winter, because of all the sparkly store and home decor, but then it snowed and snowed and snowed, for I was in the Olympia area. And I had to go to the dentist a bunch too.

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me? You're on my mom's friends list and you seem interesting.

Do you do anything artistic? Scenic painting and costume crafts. Go theatre.

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)? I'm not super active in any fandom now, but Harry Potter, Due South (and other C6D), Hot Fuzz (and the greater Simon Pegg canon), Discworld, Neil Gaiman stuff, Stargate Atlantis, Doctor Who (and spin-offs), and Joss Whedon creations are my main things.

What books do you like to read? Sci-fi, fantasy, cookbooks, and interesting histories

What do you use your lj for? Random thoughts, observations, and the like. Last year I posted every day, but this year it's sporadic again like normal.

Cats or dogs? Chocolate or cheese? Robots or aliens? Astronauts or cavemen? Jam or jelly? Coffee or tea? Dogs, chocolate, aliens, astronauts, jam, tea. Dogs, chocolate, aliens, and tea all won by very slight margins, but astronauts and jam are clear winners.

How old are you? Nearly 21!

What do you do? I attend the University of Montana, work for kgb_, and in my spare time am a nerd.

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there? The fandom ones are pretty self-explanatory. So I will address two of the odder ones: Catarjunes is supposedly the word they use in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee when they don't want you to go out that turn. I love the original cast recording, but haven't seen the show yet, so I don't know if this is actually true. Since no one has it but me I think it might be a piece of Wikiality. Raven Digitalis is my friend Colin Smith's pen/magick name- he wrote The Shadow Magick Compendium and GothCraft.

Have you met anyone on lj? Like in real life after getting to know them online? I don't think so- if I have it was through my mother.

What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?) I used to write fic way back in the day (Harry Potter angsty middle school horribly written stuff), but now except for the occasional reaction post to shows I'm watching or books I'm reading I'm a little quiet on the fannish works.

How was your day today? Tiring- I spent most of it in a house full of my friend's family for a grandfather's 70th birthday party, and keeping up socializing in a house full of people who have known each other for a billion years and you for at most 6 years (mostly from a distance) is weird.

Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)? Sutton Foster!

Icecream. (Icecream is not a question.) Yes please!

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know? Everyone, probably- you're on my mom's flist but she isn't on yours, and most of the people I talk about online don't have much public LJ presence.

Three words about you. Overeducated suburban farmgirl.

hi!

My housemate's band is named Landlord's Daughter, after the song from the Wicker Man. I haven't heard the song or seen the movie, but I hear they're cool. I will demand it for movie night.

I agree about the jam, but astronauts and cavemen are still close for me. Mostly because I like thinking about Angel/Spike arguing over it.

Your mom was on my flist for a good long while because she is made of awesomesauce! But I cut my flist by about 70% a while back because I just couldn't read everything, and I think our fandom interests had diverged some. But I still go check out her journal sometimes--like you, I don't necessarily friend everyone I read. But yeah, I still probably won't know who you're talking about ;o)

Hope you got some sleep after your tiring day!

[identity profile] chaeche.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
What's your name? Rachael or [livejournal.com profile] chaeche

What's your favorite season? Depends where I am.

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me? I saw Outdoor Tek this weekend and am friends with [livejournal.com profile] elenauial and [livejournal.com profile] kain_was_here

Do you do anything artistic? I make fan videos and I think those are art.

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)? Harry Potter, Watchmen, True Blood, Death Note and somewhat into SPN. I lurk around Holmes and Star Trek too.

What books do you like to read? Wide variety...escapist literature to stuff about intellectual property (and fan fic).

What do you use your lj for? Personal and fannish stuff, keeping in touch.

Cats or dogs? Chocolate or cheese? Robots or aliens? Astronauts or cavemen? Jam or jelly? Coffee or tea? Dogs, cheese, aliens, astronauts, jam, and coffee

How old are you? 30

What do you do? I get paid to be an intellectual property lawyer, but I do lots of other things.

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there? I keep it brief because of the deletion of certain journals with certain interests...but I do like freedom of speech.

Have you met anyone on lj? In real life? Yes many many people. Some of my best friends.

What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?) Biggest one is Snapecast although it has slowed down a lot. I also do tons of vidding and I organized a convention called SnapeFest. I may be doing more convention stuff. started the community [livejournal.com profile] pacific_slash (come join if you're into that sort of thing).

How was your day today? Tiring as I was at work all day and am now at home preparing for VividCon in a few days. I also worked out and that felt great.

Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)? Carl Castle

Icecream. (Icecream is not a question.) Yes...even for dinner.

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know? My husband, my poodles, and my fannish friends who live both nearby and far away. Also Lady Gaga...and Snape, lots of Snape.

Three words about you. Friendly, brave, adventurous

Yay! So glad you made it to Outdoor Trek! And it's nice to meet another fannish person in the area. Welcome!
