It's Lion Turtles all the way down ([personal profile] lettered) wrote2008-09-27 06:36 pm

Who's there?

Since I haven't been posting much these days, I don't know how it's happening, but new people keep popping up on the ole flist. So, hi! And I figure it was about time I did one of these.

Tell me about yourself! You can answer the questions, or some of the questions, or none, but tell me something. Even the people who've been here for ages, I'd love you to answer too, or tell me what you're doing these days. Like I said, haven't been all that active in ljland lately, so it'd be nice to hear from everybody. You're also welcome to reply even if you only lurk. I am friendly and only bite if you ask.

What's your name?

What's your favorite season?

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me?

Do you do anything artistic?

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)?

What books do you like to read?

What do you use your lj for?

Cats or dogs? Chocolate or cheese? Robots or aliens? Astronauts or cavemen? Jam or jelly? Coffee or tea?

How old are you?

What do you do?

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there?

Have you met anyone on lj?

What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?)

How was your day today?

Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)?

Icecream. (Icecream is not a question.)

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know?

Three words about you.

Yay.

Joy! It's Tracy from Lucy! Can I lj stalk you? I've read several of your posts and I find you just as witty and nerdy and delightful here as I did at the Science Center. And since I'm a sucker for answering random questions about myself:

What's your name? Tracy

What's your favorite season? Fall

How'd you find my journal / Why'd you friend me? I actually was looking for information about the free passes at the Science Center and I found a post you'd made giving them to happy recipients. I thought the wording of your post sounded familiar and I investigated.

Do you do anything artistic? I draw, I paint, I write (poorly), I make things out of other things, I cook... I wear many hats.

What fandoms are you in (if you're in one/more)? Oh, god... I'm not terribly active in any of them anymore, sadly, but I'm into Harry Potter, Firefly, Lord of the Rings (still, I know...) a couple of more beloved anime from my past. It's all pretty slashy, either way.

What books do you like to read? You already know some of this. ;) Tom Robbins is my hero. I greatly enjoyed the Abhorsen series, even if Garth Nix needs to learn how to write somewhat more satisfying endings to his novels. I love Robin McKinley and Tom Holt and I've re-read the Princess Bride so many times that my latest copy (#3!) is starting to shed pages.

What do you use your lj for? Stalking my friends mostly, these days. I've been trying to get back into regular updates about my boring life. I think I might start adding in more movie reviews and recipes or something, since I love movies and I love cooking.

Cats or dogs? Chocolate or cheese? Robots or aliens? Astronauts or cavemen? Jam or jelly? Coffee or tea? Cats, cheese (but it's a REALLY close decision), robots, cavemen, jam, tea.

How old are you? 24

What do you do? I am currently unemployed! So I spend a lot of time playing the Sims and eating out of the huge box of Kinder Bueno my sister got me for my birthday.

What're some interests on your interest list and why are they there? Anthony Bourdain because I worship him, lesbians because I've dated them, various shows and things... I really need to update it. I'm going to do that after I post this. AND FRIEND YOU PRE-CONSENT BWAHAHAHA!

Have you met anyone on lj? If you mean that I've friended/been befriended by strangers that I've gotten to know online fairly well, yes. But I haven't met someone on lj and then carried that relationship into real life.

What fannish projects do you do (if you do any? fic? Art? Icons? Archives? Comms?) Mostly, I read voraciously. I have written some fanfiction. It's all been categorically awful, but at least some of it was fully intended to be that way (such as my infamous "Rosie and the Balrog") I've made some simple icons for my personal use, but have never posted them anywhere. I'm pretty much just a lurker.

How was your day today? Oh, pretty good, I guess. Didn't really do much. Yours?

Who has a really good voice (you don't have to know him/her)? Liam Neeson. Oh, god, Liam Neeson...

Icecream. (Icecream is not a question.) Delicious! (Delicious is not an answer)

Who are other people you talk about on your journal I may not know? Tammy is my sister. Micky is my brother. Justin is my boyfriend. There have been two Kais in my life, that rarely get mention but one Kai is still a close friend to me and he does come up occasionally.

Three words about you. Arty, loquacious, ebullient

HAHAHAH OMG. So I was skimming through comments and saw something that said "Science Center" and I immediately went, "Oh shit!" in my head. RL people finding my lj is always a fear. Or actually, sometimes an embarrassment. More accurately, rarely a twinge, but hey, who's accurate? I actually have two people from PSC on here already. One saw me lj'ing at Reception, and was all, "hey, you have an lj?" and I went, "Oh shit!" because mostly my lj is porn. And another PSC person started talking about "someone she knows online who lives in Ireland who's got a book deal" and I was like, "you're talking about that Harry Potter fanfic author, aren't you!" and she was all blushy and like, "no no no I just read her book reviews" but later we outed each other as total Harry/Draco whores. I love my secret life, T.

Anywho, yay! Totally am friending you back (without your permission! But you win on stalker creds for finding me first :o(

Hats rock! Cooking rocks! Did you ever go to Sonya's cooking nights? I'm glad she and Shasta are still at PSC. I am sad you are now jobless :o( That sucks. Apply for Camp In!

I . . . am fascinated by this Rosie and the Balrog. If it is anything like Spike and Mr. Gordo, I am there . . . but I seem to remember Buffy wasn't your thing. I still need to try Garth Nix! And Tom Robbins. Don't think I know Tom Holt . . .

Agree re: Liam Neeson. I die, I die ded. He's hotsauce. Emma Thompson once described him as sex on legs.

My day was good so far! Except I'm sick in bed! But I got bagels and ate them at the park. I ...actually didn't go outside at the park. I sat in my car and listened to NPR. But I pretended I was outside, and made flapping seal noises. And I got stuff for Rice Krispy treats, the peanutbutter kind. And tonight I'm going to make housemates watch the show with King David because I love King David. He's perfect poster boy bi fucked up adulterous son-killing love.

Which anime?

Hi hi hi!

No worries about porny lj. It's one of your charms. I'd actually been having some withdrawal since one of my reliable ficcy friends left lj for good some months back. Think of yourself as filling a painful void in my soul.

I went to ONE Sonya cooking night, which is a shame, since I love cooking so and I love Sonya and you'd think that I'd be all over that like white on rice, but I just never manage to get off my ass and go. I'll investigate Camp-In, for certain!

Rosie and the Balrog is exactly what it sounds like. It's Sam's Rosie. And the Balrog. And they get it on. It's pretty much completely epic, if I do say so myself.

Yes, try Garth Nix. Try Tom Robbins, DEFINITELY try Tom Holt. He's very dry and funny and extremely British. "Paint Your Dragon" is one of my favorite stories of his.

I love your tales of park-going, Joy. You're amazing. I'm sorry that you're sick, though! My sickeness-healing thoughts are aimed firmly at you from afar!

Anime... Well, there's Gundam Wing, Rurouni Kenshin, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Record of Lodoss War (where the hot elf chick is totally gay because I HATE her love interest in the show, dammit!), Fushigi Yuugi, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, and I have to admit a deep love in my heart for Gravitation thanks to its utter ridiculousness. There's also Trigun, His and Hers Circumstances, Sailor Moon (I know, I know! But it's Sailor Moon! And the live-action series is a thing of beauty and wonder!), Fruits Basket, Haunted Junction, Speed Racer... Just a lot of somewhat older shows. I don't like a great deal of the newer stuff. It all sort of strikes me as lazy. I used to be one of the great unwashed Otaku, squealing out Japanisms and acting as much like Duo Maxwell as it's possible to do in public.

Now I'm going to think happy, happy thoughts about Liam Neeson and hope that my boyfriend doesn't notice my distraction.

FEEL BETTER, YOU!

It's actually not that porny. I was just embarrassed because Science Center/porn, no mix-y! But I don't really care in your case, because I already knew you were a fan. Fans don't count; they porn it all up wherever they go.

Link for the Rosie/Balrog?

HEE. We should go to the park, obviously. We should hang out; that would salt the rim of my margarita, totally.

Evangelion rocks my socks. I sat there and rocked in a corner for like two days after I finished it. I don't watch much anime, the housemates feed me things they think I would like. Right now we are watching Touch, which is 80s anime about twins who play baseball. One of the best things I've ever seen, really. Mostly because the main character defies any sort of categorization . . . sort of like Howl from Diana Wynne Jones, if you've read her at all. Anywho, I asked about anime because I would like to try some more; I've heard Firefly was influenced by Cowboy Bebop (so says Adrian in Animal Care). I've heard of some of the ones you've mention but seen rather few.

It's so weird we're talking about Liam Neeson. There was stuff about him on the radio because his wife just died. It's really sad!

[identity profile] nani.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, she died! I'd heard she had been in a terrible accident and might end up with permanent brain damage, but she DIED?! That's awful! Poor Liam Neeson. I think we should comfort him forthwith.

Now, did you see Evangelion as is, or did you watch End of Evangelion? Because if you haven't seen End of Eva, you need you. We will watch it. I'm one of those obnoxious people who hates the original ending and I will not watch the last couple of episodes. I instead reach for my handy-dandy End of Eva and watch that. I much prefer it.

And yes, I'm on my second copy of Howl's Moving Castle since I've read it so much. ;) The Miyazaki movie based on it is AMAZING and you need to see it if you haven't. It's not a pure adaptation of the book, but I love it so much as its own story that it's one of my favorite movies. It's like if two really good writers were given a basic prompt, a list of characters, and some key events that they had to work into a story and they each came with something based on that information, you'd get the book and movie for Howl's Moving Castle.

I'm not surprised to hear that Firefly was inspired by Cowboy Bebop. I hadn't thought about it and now I don't know WHY I hadn't. It makes a lot of sense. That's a REALLY fantastic show, by the way. I'd venture to say it changed my life.

I admit that that I'm rather an anime snob and I'm pretty picky about what I watch, so I think I can assure you that the series I listed there are all pretty good quality shows. The only crap I really love is this show called Gakuen Heaven: Boy's Love Hyper! which is just HILARIOUS in its awfulness.

All of this totally results in an agreement that we should totally hang out. :D
