Pimp and ships
-Angel/Spike ficathon:
grazieprego. It's been decided Buffyverse is retro enough to be cool again. Throw your hat in; it's going to be amazing. The awesomesauciest of writers are doing it! Except for you, you're not, so why are you still here? Even if you don't sail that ship, you're welcome to write their canon selves--there was enough subtext (sometimes text) there to canonball a ship, get it? Wait that metaphor does not make sense. It can involve other ships and people as long as there is Angel/Spike. Just do it; I love it.
-Speaking of ships and canon I don't understand myself. I really don't. I, in fact, stopped understanding myself the moment
fodian began to show me pictures like this:

I seriously regard that as my downfall, because that was the first thing I was attracted to (uh, in a sexy way) something that didn't fall along what I'm usually attracted to. And then it turned into 'ships--Spike/Connor, of all things, and Angel/Connor, and there was that weird two months where I lived and breathed Angel/Spike. But then it REALLY went downhill because there was Draco/Harry, which I understand even less. And then out of left field there was Commissioner Gordon/Bruce Wayne, don't even ask. And now it's Godfather. No, seriously. WTF, brain? There are only even like 2 Godfather slashers on the whole planet (both of them rock, btw, and have awesome hot fic.
hollycomb and
igbc).
-On that note, I have meme: Ask me a fandom-related question, anything related to fandom, and I will try to answer. Ships, het, slash, wank, wars, posting, TV, books, movies, comics, fanon, canon, whatever.
-
I think "shipped in a serious way" means I have went out and searched for fic about them, or tried to write it. I tried to put them in the order I got interested in them, but sometimes the interest resurges again later. Best ships are like that. *nods*

Have you written any Baltar/Gaeta?
no subject
Gaeta is my favorite character. I dunno why, as I tend to love main characters, and am not always as attentive as I should be to secondary and tertiary characters. But for some reason I loved and paid attention to Gaeta right from the beginning.
I'm not in love with Baltar, though I must say I am in love with how despicable he is. But they have a serious thing going on. There was that part where Gaeta came to visit Baltar in his cell, and tried to kill him with a pen. That was right after Baltar whispered something to him, and I honestly believe Baltar whispered something about how he knew Felix would get on his knees and suck his cock if he asked. And Gaeta attacked him because it was true. *nods*
OMG I'm babbling. Partly though I feel the BSG world is so complex; I am intimidated to write in it.

Also,

YAY I'm so glad other people theorized about the whisper! It seemed like one of those things, where all the people who thought the ship was possible would've totally taken it in a shippy way and everyone would have written their own fic about what was said. But I never found anyone else who shipped them, or anyone to talk about it with.
Baltar and Gaeta has something going on New Caprica before the Cylon takeover and Baltar broke his heart
Sometimes I think that too. Mostly I think it was unrequited on Gaeta's side, but Baltar knew it, and used it to his advantage. Possibly even physically. But I think Gaeta really believed in Baltar, really really believed in him. I think he did from the beginning, more than almost anyone else. And then, yeah, with the Cylon occupation, that faith just crumbled. And that was one reason I loved so much Gaeta being the informant, because he was betraying someone he still loved, but that person he loved and betrayed him . . . OMG.

I might have kind of, sort of, shipped Britta and Lasse from Astrid Lindgren's novel around the same time, too.
(Which would be when I was five, when I got these books.)
Also, I kind of get the WTFery of finding myself shipping something I've never expected to ship, but mostly, I get the OMGness of retro-explanation of why I shipped something, or liked a certain character, when I trace it back to my issues. It's kind of scary ;D
And now I see the slash in the Godfather. Damn. Another thing the Internet ruined me for. Yay.
no subject
Never much got into Lindgren. You make me wonder whether I should have!
For a while (before Buffy) there were ships I was surprised I got into, but they followed a certain pattern. Now sometimes I have explanations for my ships, but it's not consistent with anything that came before. It makes me feel like I'm really changing as a person somehow, which would be fine, except I don't think I am.
I wish to god there was more Godfather slash. So recently this Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino film came out on DvD, I guess, and there's an ad for it at my grocery store. And every time I walk in and see Pacino's face, I'm like, "Oh Michael, you've gotten so old; it makes me sad." And then I think, "Tom Hagen would still find you hot." And then I think wtf, you know, because I came to buy some damn cheese!

I've read pretty much everything of Lindgren, but only loved the Bullerbyn kids, and Ronja. Bullerbyn was sweet and everything nice, while Ronja was wild and creepy and scary and I loved it with a great passion. I practically swallowed books when I was a kid, from the age of four, and some I remember and some I don't, but Ronja still freaks me out, in a very good way.
I still have patterns in my ships, and the characters I love, but they come in a greater variety now. Although I'm still bound to love certain kinds of characters and relationships, indeed I'm very predictable in this.
I keep talking to all the Batman DVD posters, so you know, it's not that uncommon. Or maybe we both just need help, I'm not entirely sure.

HEE. I am not alone!
I'll put Ronja on my list. Sounds great!

So really, IT IS ALL FOD'S FAULT is my mantra.
OTOH, I'm grateful. So there is that. *hands*
Thanks for pimping the 'thon!

I don't think you can take just anyone and do that, and I don't think just anyone can take even an appropriate person and make you feel that. It takes a certain sort of person being presented and a certain sort of presentation, but I think our ideas of what's attractive being subverted can happen more than most of us think. The combination of VK and Fod was a tour d'force!

HEE. I will tell her you called her this.

I'm so excited about the ficathon, yes yes yes!

HOMG YES.
I would add:
Jack/John - Torchwood
Gwen/Owen - Torchwood
Sam/Diane - Cheers
Mason/Julia - Santa Barbara (The original Mason, played by Lane Davies, who used to quote Shakespeare in every other episode. Damn, I miss that soap.)
Brooke/Edmund - All My Children
Ryan/Gillian - All My Children. This one baffles me, because Gillian was an idiot. But they were beautiful, and I loved them like burning.
Jake/Greenlee - All My Children. I think I signed an online petition once to get them together. Yes, I was lame.

Also I wish I could/did write in BtVS. But I don't know why I do. Maybe I just don't feel I have anything to say.

I would read anything you wrote (for anything, but also) for BtVS.

I wasn't a fan of the mini-series itself, but I was of those two; I was surprised and pleased to learn it actually had a fan-base, tiny though it is. I think we are not alone . . .
