Questions Post #2
About a month ago I had a bunch of questions. A bunch of people answered them, which made me happy, because now I feel a lot less ignorant. But I still have a lot of questions about lj and fandom. Almost all of them are opinion questions, because I'm interested in general consensus. I'm not looking for anyone to form my opinion for me, but it's nice knowing what other people think, especially if there's some sort of group opinion (again, not that I'd be swayed by group opinion). For instance, the question about Holtz? I'd be so comforted if a large body of people could answer "no" to that question.
General
-Why didn’t we get to see a shirtless Angel holding baby Connor? Was that too much to ask?
-Does anyone at all love Kennedy?
-Why did they maul Charisma Carpenter’s hair, and did anyone like it short and blonde better than long gorgeous luxurious droolable enviable need-I-go-on brunette?
-Do most fics consider the movie canon? Does Whedon consider it canon for the show?
-Does anyone besides me feel guilty for not liking Doyle all that much?
-Can Angel (the character, not David Boreanaz) dance?
-Does James Marsters-as-William look like a young Captain-Picard-with-hair (or, more accurately: Patrick Stewart in I, Claudius) to anyone besides me?
-Are there any Wesley/Virginia fics out there?
-Is it wrong to think Holtz is dead sexy (especially his voice)? Am I alone in this feeling?
-How come male actors don’t have chest hair any more? Do people really think it’s unsexy? Why? And the point: so does David Boreanaz wax his chest or what?
Names/endearments/appellations
-What names/endearments can you actually see Angel using? (Would he call Buffy “sweetheart”? Would he call Cordy “my love”? Would he call Spike “lad”? Would he call Wesley “sex kitten”? et al)
-What about Buffy? (I know she calls Angel “honey” in an episode. Would she ever call him “hon”? Would she ever call Faith “precious”? Would she ever call Spike “daddy”?)
-Did Angelus ever once refer to his souled self as “soul boy”? (I know others did.)
-What’re your views on using the term “childe” in a fic?
-Am I the only one who’s uncomfortable calling actors by their first names when talking about them?
-What kinda name is Boreanaz?
Lj etiquette
-If you’ve just friended someone new you met on lj, do you comment when they post about their personal lives, or does that feel invasive to you before you get to know them better?
-Is it polite to friend someone without asking?
-Is anyone else nervous posting to a community without being invited to?
-Is it polite to rec someone without asking?
-Is having a paid account really worth it?
-Do you feel awkward weighing in with your opinion on the lj of someone you haven’t friended or don’t know that well? (not in reference to fic; everyone knows writers like comments from whomever they can get them ;o)
Smut
-You’re reading an epicky fic with an interesting plot. Does a really long sex scene right in the middle bore you? At what point, really, does gratuitous smut become gratuitous?
-Has Angel ever been the sub partner in a D/s relationship (in fic, I mean)?
-Wouldn’t it be kinda difficult for a human male to maintain an erection while being bitten and sucked on by a vampire? I gave blood (in hopes of helping hurricane refugees in my town, yay) today, and felt cold and limp like a noodle afterwards. Arousal? Difficult to conceive of. Then again, not a human male. What gives? Or doesn't give?
'k. That's all for now. Thanks.

I've become uber bitter about a lot of things that happened later in the verse, and I'm not ashamed to say it..because HUZZAH! I have an opinion!

I feel bad about disliking Doyle because Doyle died. I feel bad about disliking Doyle because Glenn Quinn died. I feel bad about disliking Doyle because I think Angel loved him. I think Angel loved him a lot. When you think about it, Doyle was the first male friend of his very own Angel ever made (possibly he had some as Liam, but I doubt those were the same kind of friendships). So Doyle was also the first friend Angel ever really lost (he gave up Buffy, who was arguably a friend, but I wouldn't say he "lost" her. Ever). I guess my problem is I think Doyle's character and his death makes both the story of the series and the character of Angel that much richer--except me not being able to really like Doyle makes me feel like I'm outside that richness, looking in. If that makes any sense, which it probably doesn't.

Second, as for feeling guilty about Doyle... just remember that he was a last minute change. When the actor for Whistler (who was introduced in Buffy so he could take Angel to LA) backed out of the show, they created a whole new demon to be Angel's link to the higher powers. I also didn't like the character. I'm not sure why, but he always felt forced to me.
Last, smut for smut gets old really, really quick. Granted, I prefer to see something rather than a pan shot moving from the bed to the window (quote: The Truman Show), but doing it just to be doing it is boring.
And PS: Yes, males can easily become erect while giving blood (Quote Xander: Can get turned on by thinking of linoleum).

Thank you and likewise.
Do you take my post less seriously or in some negative light because I am taking the time to post? People love to get responses.
Of course not. I'm asking not from a poster stand point, but from a commenter stand point. That is, if someone posts something publicly, I assume they want anyone who wants to to comment, and I assume they like getting responses. However the poster feels about it, though, I rarely feel comfortable replying if the post is of a personal nature. Sometimes I want to reply, but I am very shy. I can't help but feel nervous about it, even if logically, I know the person would welcome a response.

!!! I didn't know this. I always wondered why they didn't do more with Whistler, and always thought he would've made more sense as Angel's link than Doyle. I didn't know that they had problems with the actor. It's too bad, because Doyle felt forced to me, too.

That's a great quote. Because they did that in Reprise, and it annoyed me. Not that they could show anything, but still.
Yes, males can easily become erect while giving blood (Quote Xander: Can get turned on by thinking of linoleum).
Still, it's not the "how can one get turned on by that" question that bothers me. I know that people (both men and women) can get turned on by random, puzzling, and painful things. But since blood is required for an erection, the physical aspects of it interests me. It would seem to me that even if a guy was aroused by it, maintaining an erection might be difficult. Then again, I guess the answer is "that much less blood goes to work the brain."

I can definitely relate, I don't feel one way or another about him. Obviously greatly affected the story, but he just was never...all that important to me, personally.

I thought the character was created simply to give Angel places to go, and I thought it showed. He was kind of . . . flat. I also felt the writers were wishy-washy about what kinda person to make him. There was evidence he was a gambler, a drinker, and had his fingers in plenty of illicit pies, and yet he was once a elementary school teacher who's biggest life trauma, before the ep "Heroes", seems to be his wife leaving him. Then, in Heroes, it's revealed he feels he made a mistake in his past and has felt guilty about it ever since, but I don't think that guilt was evident in any episode besides this one. Until that point, I thought he expected a lot out of Angel without expecting a lot out of himself.
I didn't find his jokes funny. I couldn't swallow his attraction to Cordy. I never really got why Angel loved him so much. To me, he felt like a place-holder and bad writing. That's all ;o)

Thought his attraction was kind of cute. And to Angel, IMO he was a fellow "warrior", and first close friend?
I dunno.
That's interesting. Thanks!

Him and DB were really, really tight. DB won't talk about him much, even when asked, and sometimes he still tears up.
Ack! Sad. During that part in S5 where Cordy is watching Doyle's video and Angel walked in, there seemed to be real grief in his face.
