Questions Post #4

I have questions. You have answers.

Characters
Whatever happened to Gwen?
Whatever happened to David Nabbit?
Whatever happened to Justine?
Where does Angel's money come from?
How did Xander know where Angel lived in "Prophecy Girl"?
How old is Faith? (How much younger is she than Buffy?)
Am I the only one who liked Willow's white hair in "Chosen"?
Does Wesley have fish?
Am I the only one who liked Eve (as a character)?
Does Illyria pee? Does she have to take off that whole suit every time she does it? Is there a zipper?
Why don’t some people like Principal Wood?
How old was Connor supposed to be? Wasn't he old enough to shave? How did he shave in a hell dimension?

Icons
Why do people put text on icons that’s too small to read?
Why is it so popular to cut an image such that you can only see 1/2 or 1/4 of someone's face, and the rest is empty space?

Actors
What's up with James Marsters' accent for Spike?
Is Charisma Carpenter's name really Charisma?
What were early AtS season 5 DB's hairdressers thinking?

Other Shows
Did "Bones" ever get any better than the pilot?
Is it really worth having to sit through "Smallville" for JM?
I think I heard both CC and AA were guest appearing a lot on some show. What is it?
Don't both NB and AH have shows now? Does anyone watch them? Are they any good?
What is "Veronica Mars"? How come so many people on my flist watch it? What's good about it (the short version. Like, VM in 30 seconds)?
Is "Lost" as good as the first two seasons of "Alias" were?
How come Jack Bauer won't come fuck me?

That's all I got.

Happy unHalloween. It poured here. I was so sad for the munchkins. Except for the seven year old with the purple velvet hat who claimed to be dressed up as Pimp Daddy. Pimp Daddy had no need of my pity. I gave him lots of Reese's.

Hmm... as far as most of those "characters" questions, I really don't know, and I think it's equally possible that the show didn't explain them as it is that the show did explain and I've forgotten.

As far as those that are opinion:

Am I the only one who liked Willow's white hair in "Chosen"? I didn't really, but uh, Kennedy did!

Am I the only one who liked Eve (as a character)? No, I've definitely heard of some people who do!

Does Illyria pee? Does she have to take off that whole suit every time she does it? Is there a zipper? Have you ever gone skiing? You have to wear about 20 complicated layers and needing to pee once you've got that on is awful. Sorry, that's a little off-topic, but I'm trying to sympathize. I don't know, did we ever see her eat or drink? She'd probably have to if she does.

Why don’t some people like Principal Wood? Why don't you like Joyce, huh? Huh?

How old was Connor supposed to be? Wasn't he old enough to shave? How did he shave in a hell dimension? Do we need to bring up the question again of how Angelus grew a moustache that one time yet Angel didn't need a haircut or a shave after a summer under the ocean?

Icons: Teh pretty.

Actors:
I've heard that JM based his accent on ASH's real accent.

Other shows:
I never watched Bones beyond the pilot either, and won't be watching Smallville for JM either. I know I can count on LJ people to post pictures when they take off their shirt or something.

CC and AH are both sometimes on Veronica Mars. Uh, Amy Acker was on Supernatural? Mixing up your A actors or hearing mixed things?

I saw the pilot of NB's kitchen show, which was funny but not enough for me to remember to watch it ever again.

Veronica Mars is a high school detective show, and has CC and AH on it sometimes (as one male character's lover and sister, respectively). I started watching it in reruns this summer just because so many LJers seemed to be talking about it. I really enjoy it, but a lot of people who were fans last year seem to be disappointed with most of this season so far. It's on UPN, so I am really surprised that so many people watch it... (I'm too lazy to actually write a 30 second VM recap, but I'm counting on all the other fans on your flist to step up)

I've never seen Lost, and I'm not sure how embarassed I should be for not knowing who Jack Bauer is...

Happy unHalloween back! It was a really pretty day here, after a freak snow fall over the weekend...

Why don't you like Joyce, huh? Huh?

Because she only ever cared about herself. How dare she call her daughter a burden? Because she kicked Buffy out and then bitched her out for it when Buffy came back. Because she was not a good mother, while I got the impression that the writers, etc, expected us to sympathize with her. Because the other characters written around her were supposed to like her, love her, or respect her, and I saw nothing to like or love or respect. Because the actress who played her was bad. Because the few times the writers wrote her being a good mom even a great actress like SMG couldn't work up a decent chemistry because KS was just so freakin' bad. Because she didn't die earlier. Because her name is Joyce and that's my name and that pisses me off.

Plus, she had kinda buggy eyes.

Hey! You asked.

Mixing up your A actors or hearing mixed things?

I think I was just mixing up what I heard. I never watch TV, except of DVD. I have trouble keeping track of which is show is which that people are talking about.

I'm not sure how embarassed I should be for not knowing who Jack Bauer is...

Not embarrassed at all. Non-tv watching girl here, you know?

Anyway, Bauer is the main character in "24", played by Keifer Sutherland. I just recently started watching it because [livejournal.com profile] a2zmom said it was fun and one of the people who introduced me to BtVS and AtS told me to watch it and lent me S1. It's not Buffy or anything, but it's decent enough, and really ropes you in with cliff-hangers and stuff. And omg I want to fuck Jack.

Happy unHalloween back! It was a really pretty day here, after a freak snow fall over the weekend...

Snow???? That's crazy! I hope it was fun, and not, you know, a pain.

[identity profile] semby.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Ha, yes, I guess I did ask for that one. But anyway, my point was that everyone has their characters they don't like. Some people don't like Buffy. Some people don't like Angel! People have weird tastes.

I'm really impressed that you don't watch tv. Really. Although, VM season one is on DVD now, if you felt so inclined to give it a try. And I see that no one else has really given you the low down on what it's about and what's good about it, but someone mentioning that Joss liked it reminded me of a review that he wrote about it, which pretty much sums up the good. He's a big fan.

24! Ok. I have actually watched a couple episodes of that, but that was a couple years ago, and I'd forgotten the character's name. I had a roomate who was already a fan and she made me watch it with her, but after a few eps of that season, she decided that it wasn't as good as it used to be and we never watched again. Now, though, I'm hearing more people say how awesome it is, and I'm tempted to give it another shot.

Yes! Snow! Just on Saturday, and then by Sunday it was gone and it's been in the 60s ever since. That's New England for ya.

Ha, yes, I guess I did ask for that one. But anyway, my point was that everyone has their characters they don't like.

I know, but I wasn't going to pass up an opportunity to Joyce-bash. :o) Also, I know the reasons I hate Joyce. I don't really see reasons for people to hate Wood, and there seems to be a large contingent of them. Also, there's often a hive mind behind why a certain group of people will hate a character, and I wanted in on the collective reasoning.

I'm really impressed that you don't watch tv. Really.

Don't be. I don't not watch it on principle. Also, I waste my time and kill my brain with other things. Also, I watch so many DVDs it's ridiculous.

Thanks for the link to the review. I hated reading it because it made me want to watch VM and I just can't get hooked on anything else right now. Although the central premise doesn't really interest me. Then again, neither did BtVS's.

Now, though, I'm hearing more people say how awesome it is, and I'm tempted to give it another shot.

I love Jack Bauer. Apart from that, the other things I like about it tend to fluctuate and are grossly uneven. I'm going to do a post about what I think about it, but there will be massive spoilers.

Usually, I'd trade weather with you, but it's so gorgeous here right now. But. . . snow!

Characters

Whatever happened to Gwen? I think she lived happily ever after. Too bad she couldn't do that with Gunn. They were smokin.

Whatever happened to David Nabbit? The actor couldn't come back due to scheduling conflicts. I like to think the character came out of the closet and found a pretty young fuck toy who dotes on him in exchange for all manner of shiny objects.

Whatever happened to Justine? I hope she died chained to that godamn fence. What a useless twat of a character. Uh. I might have Justine issues.

Where does Angel's money come from? He invests. Which is a fancy way of saying he steals.

How did Xander know where Angel lived in "Prophecy Girl"? Come on. Xander crushed Angel sooo hard. He totally followed him home one day. And Angel called him on it. And from then on, Xander hated him. It totally works in canon and everything!

How old is Faith? (How much younger is she than Buffy?) I always thought she was older. Hunh. Interesting.

Am I the only one who liked Willow's white hair in "Chosen"? Possibly. I just hated the whole damn ep, so maybe I'm not the one to ask.

Does Wesley have fish? (shameless self-reference)- I think so. I wrote it into Losing My Religion. God knows Wes needed *something*. A bird would have been better.

Am I the only one who liked Eve (as a character)? Christ, yes. Sorry.

Does Illyria pee? Does she have to take off that whole suit every time she does it? Is there a zipper? I'm still trying to figure if vampires pee. I haven't gotten around to old, dead gods yet. Sorry again.

Why don’t some people like Principal Wood? Because he attacked poor ickle defenseless Spike because Spike killed his mother for no reason at all!

How old was Connor supposed to be? Wasn't he old enough to shave? How did he shave in a hell dimension? Connor was originally 16. Then they decided he had to have sex with Cordy, so they purposefully referred to him as being of age. (18). He shaved the same way he cut his hair. With a hacksaw, judging by appearance. Personally, I don't think VK even has to shave.

Icons
Why do people put text on icons that’s too small to read? It's art. Bad art, mind, but art.

Why is it so popular to cut an image such that you can only see 1/2 or 1/4 of someone's face, and the rest is empty space? Again, I refer to Art.

Actors

What's up with James Marsters' accent for Spike? ASH taught him. Although maybe ASH was really trying to make him look silly.

Is Charisma Carpenter's name really Charisma? Yea, according to interviews she's named after her mother's favorite perfume. Which could have been much worse, if you think about it.

What were early AtS season 5 DB's hairdressers thinking? "Jesus Christ, boy has a lot of hair?" Just a gues.

Other Shows

Did "Bones" ever get any better than the pilot? Yes. And it's about to get better again. Although I'd watch that man juggle dead cats.

Is it really worth having to sit through "Smallville" for JM? No. But I do it for love. Also, boy looks GOOD.

I think I heard both CC and AA were guest appearing a lot on some show. What is it? CC is on VM, and so is Hannigan, I think? Also, Joss, believe it or not. Acker was on Supernatural- which is a decent, slightly creepy show with a nice brotherly*coughincestcough* vibe between the lead characters. Who are also pretty.

Don't both NB and AH have shows now? Does anyone watch them? Are they any good? Yes. Yes. Not so much, I don't think.

What is "Veronica Mars"? How come so many people on my flist watch it? What's good about it (the short version. Like, VM in 30 seconds)? Pass.

Is "Lost" as good as the first two seasons of "Alias" were? It is pure, unadulterated, utter *crack*. So, yes?

How come Jack Bauer won't come fuck me? He's chained to my desk.

That's all I got. Want a muffin?

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
How did Xander know where Angel lived in "Prophecy Girl"? Come on. Xander crushed Angel sooo hard. He totally followed him home one day. And Angel called him on it. And from then on, Xander hated him. It totally works in canon and everything!

I'm good with that.

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope she died chained to that godamn fence. What a useless twat of a character. Uh. I might have Justine issues.

You might. I liked her as a villain. Actually, I like the Justine-construct in my head. Just like I like the AtS S3-construct in my head. The one that doesn't involve Angel being a dork and Cordy acting out of character and stuff.

He invests. Which is a fancy way of saying he steals.

Before or after the curse? And does he use a bank, or just stick it under the mattress? And whom, exactly, does he steal from?

Come on. Xander crushed Angel sooo hard. He totally followed him home one day. And Angel called him on it. And from then on, Xander hated him. It totally works in canon and everything!

This answers every question about Xander I ever had.

I think so. I wrote it into Losing My Religion.

That's one out of the three reasons I ask (the other two reasons are two other fics in which Wes has fish). Btw, Losing My Religion is one of the best fics I've ever read.

I'm still trying to figure if vampires pee.

And if so, do they piss blood?

Because he attacked poor ickle defenseless Spike because Spike killed his mother for no reason at all!

The word "ickle" explains it all.

Personally, I don't think VK even has to shave.

Not much, but there was a time or two on AtS when he looked . . . 1 o' clock shadowish.

Although maybe ASH was really trying to make him look silly.

This also explains much.

He's chained to my desk.

Does he have a bucket?

[identity profile] kita0610.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
-The actress who played Justine annoyed me, so maybe that's a part of it, but I also hated the whole "uber-anti-Slayer/Watcher" vibe between her and Holtz. Also, Holtz. Also, Angel being a fucktard and Cordy being a Saint. AtS S3 overall makes me want to cry tears of blood. S4 (and the boit of possible retcon by Skip) made up for most of it, but lingering issues remain. I may need therapy.

-I think Losing My Religion suffered terribly by my whacky fondness for italics. A year or so after I wrote it, I took out most of them. The fic worked- better, actually. I like the *idea* of Losing My Religion better than the actual execution. Much like AtS S3!

-No bucket, no escape.
ext_7189: (lissla)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
-I thought both Holtz and Justine brought interesting themes into play--the kind of themes that make me love both AtS and Angel himself. But yeah. The Good Version Of S3 lives only in my head, along with the Right Version Of Phantom Of The Opera and the Film Of Jane Eyre Starring Alan Rickman.

-A lot of people use italics and punctuations as short cuts and cheap tricks, and I almost always view them as such, even in published experimental fiction. To be perfectly honest with you, it took me a while before I began to read your stuff--despite all the good things I'd heard about your fic--because the first thing I started to read by you seemed to use some of those techniques. But however many italics you took out of Losing My Religion, what you left in did a lot to change my thinking about the nature of text in prose. The style you used made some things possible that I don't think would've been possible otherwise, and that I don't think I've seen in many other places. Reading it wasn't just wonderful and heartbreaking; it was a very "there is no spoon" experience.

/gushing

-Dude, doesn't he smell?

[identity profile] kita0610.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
-You're not wrong about the italics, parentheses, etc. I used a lot of that style stuff before I worked harder on substance. My fic definitely suffered for that. I actually posted about this- and LMR specifically, a while back when LJ was talking about writing styles. How since my writing has improved, I've relied a lot less on shortcuts. Which in itself has *also* made my writing better.

I actually see a lot of writers go through a similar process.

FWIW, all the versions of LMR on any of my sites are now italic-ly sanatized for your reading pleasure. *G* I'm glad it worked for you in whatever form you found it in originally. I definitely think the style has its place, and has the potential to make new things possible. It can also be overused and a total crutch, for writers who haven't figured out any other way to get their points across.

For me, I think I am at a place where I am able do most of the things I want to with my stories, without having to rely on kooky style stuff. I'm really satisfied with the two fic that came after LMR, that contained flashbacks, weird timelines, etc., and didn't need any changes in style to make any of the sunstance stuff clear.

And now I am done babbling at you.

/self-wank

-Dude, doesn't he smell?

Yes. Yes he does, particularly after I killed him.
ext_7189: (lissla)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I only read LMR a month or so ago, so it was sanatized. It still used more tricks than I usually appreciate, but that was the reason it blew me away, because they didn't feel like shortcuts or laziness when you used them.

Yes. Yes he does, particularly after I killed him.

Wha . . . ?

[identity profile] bisi.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
I liked Eve as a character. Know-it-all priggish little patronising upstart.

JM's accent was a contruct of wonder - posh/Northern/mockney/Californian. Plausible. After ASH left, the accent, and the word choice, stopped hitting the mark.

Why don’t some people like Principal Wood? Hey, lots of people don't like the titular heros even. Or the plots, or the writing, or the supporting casts. And yet still kept watching.

That's all I got.

It all make sense except the plausible part. I like JM. I think he's a fine actor. But I never could get over the accent.

[identity profile] bisi.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
No, no - once he'd been away from home long enough, that's how ASH actually spoke! And Britishers who spend too much time on lj sometimes hear their own selves coming out with something like it, embarrassingly!

Ah, ASH! There were many little delights in the dialogue he must have been responsible for.
Spike (in bermudas and Hawaian shirt): 'Oi be a vrend of Zaanderz, surr' (or whatever he said.) Pure West Country.

Really! I'd never heard an accent like Spike's before . . . Spike.

'Oi be a vrend of Zaanderz, surr'

oh yes! I was rolling on the floor every time JM said Xander's name. That was great.

Characters
Whatever happened to Gwen?

She's rumored to be a sooper sekrit agent.
Whatever happened to David Nabbit?
He's being held for randsome in a demon brothel. He's not in any hurry to pay his way out.
Whatever happened to Justine?
She's been spending time in a padded cell after attacking to Trick-or-treaters dressed as vampires one Halloween.
Where does Angel's money come from?
He scrimps. He saves.
How did Xander know where Angel lived in "Prophecy Girl"?
From stalking?
How old is Faith? (How much younger is she than Buffy?)
I don't know. She always seemed older - but I think it was just worldliness.
Am I the only one who liked Willow's white hair in "Chosen"?
It was interesting.
Does Wesley have fish?
Yes, filleted and served with white wine, butter and capers.
Am I the only one who liked Eve (as a character)?
I think you must be. I HATE Eve. I think she's one-dimensional and a cheap knock-off of the much more interesting and sexy Lilah.
Does Illyria pee? Does she have to take off that whole suit every time she does it? Is there a zipper?
Heh. If Fred's organs got cooked, I'm guessing the parts aren't there to do the job. I don't think that is suit, I think it's a skin - or an armor - like an armadillo. Or a turtle.
Why don’t some people like Principal Wood?
He wasn't very fleshed out as a character? He beat up Spike? I liked him okay - he certainly was Purty anyway.
How old was Connor supposed to be? Wasn't he old enough to shave? How did he shave in a hell dimension?
Sixteen-ish?

At that age he might be old enough to shave, but not every 16-year old boy needs to shave.

Actors
What's up with James Marsters' accent for Spike?
Hell if I know. I think when ASH was coaching him, he was more consistent. But the odd bits of Scotsman!Spike really flipped me out at times.

Is Charisma Carpenter's name really Charisma?
Yes. IIRC, she was named after a perfume her mother liked, apparently.

What were early AtS season 5 DB's hairdressers thinking?

Uh...Maybe -"Corporate Angel needs a more corporate look...

Other Shows
Did "Bones" ever get any better than the pilot?

Oh yes. There's shirtless David in episdoe 2!! Actually, it's not a great show, but it does seem to be getting getter, and besides I'm shallow enough to not care if it's great because David=Sexay.

She's been spending time in a padded cell after attacking to Trick-or-treaters dressed as vampires one Halloween.

lol. She needs to be in a padded cell anyway.

I think you must be. I HATE Eve. I think she's one-dimensional and a cheap knock-off of the much more interesting and sexy Lilah.

I had trouble with Lilah. I liked her as a character, and really got into her when she started in on Wesley. But I guess there was something about the actress that just . . . I dunno; I didn't believe her. The girl who played Eve instantly had the grating, sexy vibe and chemistry (positive or negative) I think Lilah was supposed to have but never had for me--but the writing and character development for Eve were never anywhere near as good as for Lilah.

Heh. If Fred's organs got cooked, I'm guessing the parts aren't there to do the job. I don't think that is suit, I think it's a skin - or an armor - like an armadillo. Or a turtle.

Forgot about the organs getting fried. I never quite got the deal with the suit. Of course the deal is it looks awesome and AA is hot in it, but I never quite got what it was supposed to be either.

But the odd bits of Scotsman!Spike really flipped me out at times.

The odd everything flipped me out. It always surprises me to learn that there are people who are surprised that the accent wasn't real. I mean . . . duh?

Oh yes. There's shirtless David in episdoe 2!!

So is it worth it if friends link me shirtless!DB?

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I was actually going to ask the Gwen question. Was she introduced as a possible spin-off? A possible love interest for Angel in an attempt to make Charisma, "straighten up and fly right"? Don't know. Actually, she's on that "Reunion" show with the cute brother from "American Dreams" and the chick that played Janey in "Not Another Teen Movie."

I think Faith was actually supposed to be a bit older than Buffy (not more than a couple of years) which was funny, since Eliza was the youngest cast member.

Eve bugged. I do think it's funny that Angel had lots of sex with her, though, since a) it's icky and therefore funny and b) it allowed Spike to say, "Good on you, mate!" As well as Lindsey thinking that Eve was the one thing he'd ever had that Angel hadn't.

Connor, as Kita said, was deliberately "aged" to 18. My question is...how did he speak such clear American slang in the space of one episode? That Sunny must have been a chatterer! You'd imagine that he and Holtz were the only humans in Quortoth, and Holtz was an 18th century dethawed fellow, so wouldn't Connor's speech been a little bit less of, "Man, this sucks!"? Of course, I cut them a break. I really wouldn't have wanted to see Connor put the moves on Cordy in iambic pentameter.

I don't get the too small text - and I have a couple of those icons. I, er, like the picture.

Bones got better. It's still a little rough around the edges, but David's fun in it.

Er, did you see my Smallville post? Is it worth it? James is good. Lex is cool. The show provided me with unintentional comedy. I'm happy.

Alyson Hannigan is on "How I Met Your Mother" and Nicholas Brendon is on "Kitchen Confidential."

"HIMYM" is a sitcom ala "Friends." It's on ABC (the current power network) and gets good ratings. It has Aly, plus one of the guys from "Freaks and Geeks" plus a hilarious Doogie Howser who's chewing scenery from here to Piccadilly. It's uneven, it's hilarious, it's pedestrian. Aly's character is great when she gets to be 20-something quirky, sort of wince-y when she just becomes a clone of Aly's "American Pie" character.

Nicky's show "Kitchen Confidential" is produced and directed by Darren Star, who did "Sex and the City." It also stars Bradley Cooper of "Alias," another dude from "Freaks and Geeks" and a sexy English guy who says "bloody" alot. It's Bradley Cooper's show, and it's smart and funny in a total non-laugh track sort of way. However, it's on FOX opposite Aly's show (this is not a problem for me, I DVR both) and following "Arrested Development" which is not doing well in the ratings and kind of tugging "KC" down with it. Plus, after three episodes, the show has been preempted by FOX's baseball schedule since mid-September. It returns November 14. I started a community for it [livejournal.com profile] nolita_nights in hopes that the snarky, boys' club fun would continue, and so that people would think I was cool and make me pieces of Nick Brendon art.

I've never watched an episode of "Veronica Mars," but Joss seems to like it. The first season of "Lost" was awesome. (I've never watched "Alias" - I had Jennifer Garner damage.) The second season of "Lost"? It appears to be a bit lost thus far. High hopes, though.

Oh, and David Boreanaz's hair was a built in joke that could be referenced any time the writers were getting punchy. It's the only reasonable explanation...

Sound questions all.

[identity profile] kita0610.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Connor and Holtz were never supposed to be the only humans in Quor'toth. In fact, *someone* had to name him the Destroyer. The slang didn't come after one ep, although it did come pretty fast. Connor has peculiar speech patterns throughout his run though- sort of like how Angel gets an Irish lilt when he's pissy and/or soulless, Connor reverts to formal speech when he's pissy and/or Destroyer-y.

Word to DB's hair. I heard him talk about it at a con once, I think? Or maybe someone else talked about it. Apparently, he wanted to do his own hair, and they wouldn't let him, and it became a running gag.

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Other humans in Quor'toth? Huh. I guess I never thought about that - I assumed it was Holtz & Connor against...whatever lived there. And I thought the Destroyer thing was just a case of demons conveniently speaking English, like that scorpion dude whose people worshiped Jasmine first.

I was hoping you had info on the Gwen thing. Was she an attempt at spin-off? Or just a hot chick with superpowers?

I don't think I've ever loved Angel more than the, "My hair!" moment in Pylea.

Fod, to whom I defer re all things Connor, has an entire treatise on the humans in Quor'toth. I'll let her spell it all out sometime.

I dunno about Gwen. I think she was just one of many failed attempts to het Angel up. But unless it was a short blonde ala Buffy or Darla, or had a dick ala every male in the verse, DB just didn't have the chemistry with 'em. So they went the way of that Asian chick, and Kate, and Cordelia, and...

Was she introduced as a possible spin-off?

This is the reason I ask. They seemed to invest quite a lot into development of her as a character; I felt sure she was going to become a member of Angel's team. Then she just . . . fades away. And I thought they were supposed to . . . not.

I think Faith was actually supposed to be a bit older than Buffy

Huh. I assumed she was younger because she got called later. Also, she looked younger and acted younger, despite her worldly bravado.

I do think it's funny that Angel had lots of sex with her

I think the whole purpose of this was a plot device to set up cheap jokes later on. As much as I enjoyed S5, there seemed to be several instances of this--also of making cheap jokes of things that I didn't think should be cheapened.

Er, did you see my Smallville post? Is it worth it? James is good. Lex is cool. The show provided me with unintentional comedy. I'm happy.

I did read your post. I didn't know whether to barf or laugh. I've watched exactly one ep of SV. Since then, I've had hours of entertainment reenacting a particularly bad moment of atrocious acting by the fellow who plays Clark Kent. But the thought of enduring more makes me lean toward the barf and not the laugh side. THough I though Lex was great, too.

It also stars Bradley Cooper of "Alias,"

He played the character Will Tippin, right? He was fabulous.

Thanks for the run-down on these two shows. I'm too lazy to watch or research them myself, but have been wanting to know the skinny on them for some time. I've watched "Arrested Development" on DVD. I'm disappointed to learn it's doing badly; maybe I'll tune in once KC comes back and make a night of it.

Thanks for your answers ;o)

Characters
Whatever happened to Gwen?

In real life, the actress got offered a movie role. She was supposed to come back, but couldn't. I actually thought she had great chemistry with DB (much better than he did with CC, which was about as much chemistry as two mackerals macking.)

Whatever happened to David Nabbit?

I think thw actor didn't want to come back. Thank goodness, because I hated that charcater. I never found him amusing.

Whatever happened to Justine?

Wes throw a set of keys at her, so I assume she unlocked herself. She spends her night taking down demons and her days constantly looking over her shoulder, expecting Wes to come back...

Where does Angel's money come from?

He's very wealthy from his souless days but tries not to use it because of the guilt. Unfortunately that tends to war with his very materialistic side - he likes to walk in beauty, as it were.

How did Xander know where Angel lived in "Prophecy Girl"?

Although the stalking idea is fun, more likely Willow did a reverse phone look-up a long time ago at Xander's insistence (don't forget, they do know his phone number. I assume he gave it to Giles.)

How old is Faith? (How much younger is she than Buffy?)

I think she's a year younger than Buffy. If she was older, she would have warned Buffy about the 18th birthday test.

Am I the only one who liked Willow's white hair in "Chosen"?

I didn't care either way. What did bug me is the implication that she's know one of the "Guardians" that was a plot point that was pulled straight oout of Joss' ass.

Does Wesley have fish?

Yes! And And Angel killed him in the "Sacrifce of Enrique". (Wes really does seem like a fish guy).

Am I the only one who liked Eve (as a character)?

Yes. Although the actress did improve as the season went on.

Does Illyria pee? Does she have to take off that whole suit every time she does it? Is there a zipper?

Considering that I think her blue suit is more like skin, I'd go with no zipper. Plus Gods don't pee. (And vampires piss exactly whatever they have drunk. Beer goes in. Beer goes out. Think of the recycling possibilities!)

Why don’t some people like Principal Wood?

Don't know. I would have loved to see more because man, did he have some issues.

How old was Connor supposed to be? Wasn't he old enough to shave? How did he shave in a hell dimension?

How did Spike magically bleach his roots while half insane in the Sunnydale HS basement?

Icons
Why do people put text on icons that’s too small to read?

Because they think watching me squint is damn amusing.

Why is it so popular to cut an image such that you can only see 1/2 or 1/4 of someone's face, and the rest is empty space?

Who knows?

On Gwen, David Nabbit, Xander finding Angel, and Faith: thank you for your answers! Definitely clears some things up.

What did bug me is the implication that she's know one of the "Guardians" that was a plot point that was pulled straight oout of Joss' ass.

I hated the Guardian thing too, though I never thought about that re: Willow.

Wes really does seem like a fish guy

I agree with Kita. He should've had a bird. Now I want to write a Wes & bird story.

Beer goes in. Beer goes out. Think of the recycling possibilities!)

Um, ew?

I would have loved to see more because man, did he have some issues.

Me too. Also, hotness.

How did Spike magically bleach his roots while half insane in the Sunnydale HS basement?

By ransacking the janitor closet and pouring bleach over his head?

BWAH! Finally, a plausible answer.

Actors
What's up with James Marsters' accent for Spike?

As others have said, blame ASH.

Is Charisma Carpenter's name really Charisma?

yup.

What were early AtS season 5 DB's hairdressers thinking?

What they were thinking is he had that mop of hair because of the movoe "Wicked Prayer" and likely couldn't cut it until final filming was finished. In the meantime, I think they were hust trying to keep it at bay. Doodle has the same kind of hair - two days after a haircut, he needs another one. At least Dave will never be bald.

Other Shows
Did "Bones" ever get any better than the pilot?

yes. Much better. And DB was wearing very tight jeans this week. Who gives a crap about the plot.

Is it really worth having to sit through "Smallville" for JM?

NO. I've been watching the show since it started. It was crap then, it's crap now and will still be crap when it ends. I enjoy mocking.

I think I heard both CC and AA were guest appearing a lot on some show. What is it?

CC is guest starring on Veronica Mars ann AA is on Alias.

Don't both NB and AH have shows now? Does anyone watch them? Are they any good?

I gave both shows a try and quit after two weeks. I hate sitcoms.

What is "Veronica Mars"? How come so many people on my flist watch it?

Veronica Mars is good but it is not the second coming of Buffy. Give me a day or so and I'll post about it.

What's good about it (the short version. Like, VM in 30 seconds)?

The father/daughter relationship is wonderful. I stongly dislike almost everyone else on the show.

Is "Lost" as good as the first two seasons of "Alias" were?

Didn't watch the first two seasons of Alias. (I watched Alias last season and what a steaming pile of shit.) Lost is interesting but if I never saw it again, I likely wouldn't care.

How come Jack Bauer won't come fuck me?

He's not my type so I can't say. (He such a twee little thing.)

Oh! This clears things up too!

AA is on Alias.

Really! That's awful news. It makes me want to take a peek at Alias, which is so totally craptastick now it makes my eyes bleed.

I hate sitcoms.

Me too, for the most part.

Didn't watch the first two seasons of Alias. (I watched Alias last season and what a steaming pile of shit.)

I think I told you this before, but the 1st two season were very cool. There was some ridiculousness (much like "24" in that sense, though less realistic but also more twisty than "24"), but there were some definite cool elements.

I don't really know the answers to any of these--except that I liked Willow's white hair, so no, you're not the only one--so I'm just watching in awe.

Glad you liked the white. AH looked so beautiful; it made me kinda tear up.

Am I the only one who liked Eve (as a character)?
I tried to learn how to like her by writing her. My two drabbles actually spawned a bigger plotbunny, but I don't know when I'll get to it.

Does Illyria pee? Does she have to take off that whole suit every time she does it? Is there a zipper?
*HEEhaw* I am stopping myself from quoting a line from the soon-to-be-published ep. 4 of Three Deep.

Did "Bones" ever get any better than the pilot?
Teh Pretty. And despite all the huge problems, I can't help but enjoy the fact that the female lead is not a twig. She's a grown-up, with minions, who's neither a sympathetic, damaged, virginal wisp, nor a frigid bitch. She's kind of annoying, but so's Buffy. I like my female leads a little bit unlikeable. I'm weird.

Is it really worth having to sit through "Smallville" for JM?
It's so brilliantly mockable!

I have yet to read any virtual series. I need more time in my life.

I'm surprised you find Buffy annoying. One of the many stereotypes I had about BtVS was that Buffy would be aggravating, but I never found her so. Did you find her a bit unlikeable, too? Huh. Anyway, one of the reasons I never watched past the first ep of "Bones" was I found the lead female extremely off-putting. So I half agree!

If you catch up now, it's only one chapter to read every couple months! The writing is stunning, and I'm so excited about Angel's character arc that I could squeal. *squeal* I'm pining to get fans of all stripes reading and arguing about the thing, because it's so ambitious and intense and provoking. Is it B/A, B/S or S/A? Yes. Muahaha.

I'm surprised you find Buffy annoying.
Buffy can be ditzy, self-centred, hypocritical, cruel, opaque. She's still my favourite character. I like her lots.

Yeah, but, b-but, she's n-not annoying ;o)

I guess when I think "annoying" for a character I think of ones that hit specific pet peeves, which Buffy almost never does. I guess I'd be annoyed by her often enough if I knew her as a person, though.
