Because it's almost 5am, and I still can't get to sleep.

stultiloqentia recently posted a drinking game for Spuffy smut fic. It's a list of words you're sure to have seen a time or two (except for, you know, gnomon). Of course, "cold dead seed" makes an appearance.

Also, a while back, kita0610 had an outing for the old schoolers who invented things like Buffy's vanilla scent. They're those things that get used again and again. And again.

And on stultiloqentia's list? I was surprised to realize I don't care how over-used it is, I still find the primal roar/whisper "Mine!" sexy. I also get turned on by Buffy's "tiny hands" (in Angel's broad ones), even though it's in every single fic on ff.net, the unsexiest place in the whole wide world.

I've managed to convince myself I'm not the only one.

So come on. What are those "I don't care how many times I see it, I still like it"s? Okay, it might be more of a "I don't care how many other people misuse it, I still like it if it's done right", but you have one, don't you? You like seeing Spike say "Da" or "Yes, Sire," or "Xanpet". You like Buffy's mossy green eyes and Angel's chocolate ones. You like it when _____'s mouth is like satin and ______'s spunk tastes like honey. You like it when Buffy finds out Angel married her without telling her when he put the Claddagh ring on her finger. You like seeing Angel spelled "Angle". What's your cliché-kink?

My not-so-secret passion is for the whole "mate/mine" thing. Oh, and the biting. If Angel bites Buffy after growling "mate/mine" then I don't care if the fic is the most horrible piece of trite ever, I will probably love it. *g*

I make no apologies for loving that. And I know I'm not the only one who does. *looks at certain people on flist*

The first time I read the whole "mate" thing it really, really turned me on. Then I started seeing it everywhere and I just got tired of it, but yeah, it's people like us that keep this stuff going. We like certain things and we are unashamed.

We should be proud. We should flaunt our over-used kinks so people use them more! I do try to stay away from using concepts I think are unoriginal, but there's such a stigma attached to using certain things in fic, I don't want to not use something just because I think so-and-so will not like it because it's over-used. Ya know?

Here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/southernbangel/50252.html) is a pretty good list of my fandom loves (that are quite often cliches). I make no apologies for loving what I love. If someone else doesn't like it? Good for them. Doesn't mean it lessens my massive love for it in any way.

I think it's sad that people feel like they have to apologize for liking certain things that might be viewed as cheesy or immature or whatever derogatory term you see fit. I used to apologize for liking fluff. I would preface it by saying, "I love fluff but I'm talking about the good fluff." Then I realized that why should I care if people know I love fluff? Or the "mate/mine" kink? Or that I love human AUs? *I'm* the one who likes them and to me, that's all that matters. If Person X doesn't like AUs and thinks people who do like AUs are stupid? Whatever. If he/she believes that, then it's someone I don't want to know. If they're willing to judge someone based on a fic they like, or a particular pairing? No sir, not for me.

I wish I'd been around when people were announcing their shameful loves, because I loved reading this list.

I was just surprised that when I read Stulti's list, I was so embarrassed by liking "Mine!" and "little hands." I didn't get why I would be embarrassed by something I liked, and it made me wonder. I don't mind people mocking it; I just want to be comfortable with admitting that I liked it, too.

I especially like 5. on your list (about Spuffy sometimes being hotter than B/A when it's all rough). Now that's something I hadn't even thought about admitting, but it's definitely true with me. I think part of it is that no matter how dark, rough and painful B/A fic can be, I believe that they'll always love each other, and if they begin to engage in behavior that I think would seriously damage each others' psyche, I get turned off and worried about them. But when it comes to Spike and Buffy, I'm not so sensitive about what they might or might not do to each other (correction, I am. I can't really imagine them making sensitive, tender love. That would turn me off and make me worry about them, too. ;o) But generally, my imagination allows them to explore more kinks (esp. set during S6) because I think they don't care about each other in the way B/A do.

I think you're very right. I think I've been guilty of apologizing or feeling embarassed for liking certain things that I like, but I don't know why and I really shouldn't be. I think I'm going to start being more aware of when I have that sort of reaction, and tell myself to STFU. If everyone liked the same thing, the world would be a very dull place!

Hee, Faith/RWWIRW is an old joke between myself and marenfic. We were talking about writing a fic (that is now "Come Undone" our WIP) and we mentioned that Faith should have her own guy. Somehow we came up with a Watcher who would look like Will from Alias. So, Faith/Random Watcher Who Is Really Will was born. :D

I completely agree with you about the world being very boring if everyone agreed. I used to apologize for liking certain things. I don't anymore because as long as *I* like it, what does it matter what anyone else thinks?
