L. Hope no one was trying to fly out of the country today. The news is always so fuckin scary, man.
I. I've been in Austin for a week or so, and will be in Florida next week to help my brother and s-i-l move. So I've been kinda spotty on the lj thing. I've missed some comments, whatnot--I'll be getting back to ya.
N. Did you miss [livejournal.com profile] stoney321's post about the president of a gardening company using its mailing list to encourage bigotry? Did you go to the website for the company to politely (hopefully articulately) protest? Did anyone write Adam/Steve fic? Anyone?
K. Test the Dixie/Yankeeness of your speech. You know y'ant to.
S. This game is freakishly addictive.

-Five Years Later At A Holiday End by [livejournal.com profile] romanyg
Angel/Connor. Warning: contains incest. What the title says, and then what the warning says, with simple, powerful text, spot on characterization, and something a little heartbreaking as well as sexy.

-No Place Like Home by [livejournal.com profile] chrisleeoctaves
Angel/Spike/Buffy. This piece is mostly light and almost hopeful, but with and undertone of bittersweetness and resignation, almost of despair. Chris hits exactly the right note: these characters can be happy, but they will never quite be content.

-Five Pairs of Lips Buffy Never Kissed. . . And Five She Did by [livejournal.com profile] chrisleeoctaves
Buffy/everyone and your mom. From family to youth to daydreams to love, this fic covers both the unexpected and unavoidable in Buffy's love life.

-Stick Shift Redux by [livejournal.com profile] stultiloquentia
Buffy/Spike. Even if you have me friended because you're a h0r 4 B/A, read it. It has something new to offer sex scenes, fresh words and ways of saying things that aren't what you get in 'ship fics and romance novels.

-I Don't Know Where I'll Be Tonight, But I'll Always Tell You Where I Am, by [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds
Faith/Wesley. This is a really fun bit of almost fluff. The Faith voice is endearing and spot-on, and the progression of the fic is a way to rediscover any kink you might've had for gradual love stories and/or epistlary pieces.

-Substance Among Other Categories (was that the title? or not? by [livejournal.com profile] ros_fod
Connor/Spike. Spare and sad and that absent third.

-page 5 of [livejournal.com profile] astridv's comic.
If you haven't been keeping up with [livejournal.com profile] astridv and [livejournal.com profile] yhlee's co-created comic book, you should. Fabulous drawings, interesting plot, set post-NFA.

-[livejournal.com profile] dovil has two posts on Spike/Angel(us) dynamics, here and here.

-[livejournal.com profile] rahirah hosted a discussion about plagarism in fanfic, in response to the Cassie Claire thing. Several other people are discussing the same thing--food for thought, I think.

ETA: "The word deadline first appeared as an American coinage that referred to the line around a military prison beyond which soldiers were authorized to shoot escaping prisoners." Think about that next time you're late on a project, MM & Mmes!

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, recs!! Okay, I read most of them but - detaily recs! And some I haven't read.

Your definition of deadline is a balm to my soul.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I only scored 51% Dixie on the language thing.

Glad the recs could be useful.

I don't know why, but I just never thought about the dead in deadline.

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I missed the Dixie test till you replied back! I'm only 61%, which surprises me. I mean, I say y'all and yownto and tumped, but my Dad also travelled a lot, so I grew up saying "soda" (instead of pop or Coke) and stuff.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm surprised as well. And, so that's how you spell yownto. I actually grew up saying "pop" because my parents are from the north, but I use it and "Coke" interchangeably.

[identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh. I don't want you to go away from LJ next week, because I'm waiting on a beta for a Connor fic, and it's written almost entirely for YOU, because I want to TALK to you about Connor.

So... tell your bro and sil to suck it. Stoney's begging. Heh.

[identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Hah, and I scored 91% Dixie. Then again, two of those options are pure-d Texan: party barn, and wrappin'. If they had "fixin' to" as an option, I'd've scored higher. :)
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
It says the term "feeder" for an access road is strictly Houston and the Great Lakes. Weird. They had "fixin'" elsewhere. I hate it when people say fixin'.

[identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, you would totally hate me, then, because I am Teeeeeeeexan. Meaning, I'm fixing to go work on my fic some more.

:)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I say kitty-corner. What the hell does tump mean?

[identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Me, too. And cupboards, not cabinets. And covers, not blankets. I'm all Texan like that.

Seriously? You['ve never heard tump down there? Well.... there's a lot of transplants in Houston, so actually, that wouldn't suprise me. Unless you're actually in SugarWater or Katy, in which case, what's wrong with them locals?

TUMP: a combination of tip and dump. You would tump over a glass of milk. You would not tump over a pile of laundry.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I say cupboards and covers, too.

I'm in Katy, but not the old town part of Katy. The newer part where it's all yuppies from elsewhere. And before I lived there, when I was growing up, where we lived was mostly immigrants. So I actually've rarely come into contact with people who consider themselves "Southerners".

I'll have to use tump someday.

TKMe: Stoney says, suck it.
TKbro2: No.
TKS-i-l2: Only if she does me back.
TKbro2: Scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. Wink wink.
TKS-i-l2: How far away does she live again?

I'm all aflutter with anticipation for new Connor!fic! I'm so happy! I can't wait. There's been sudden riches of late. I'm a poet, and don't know it. Um, I'll be checking every chance I get for it.

But if you ever want to, you know, talk talk, we can always IM. When I'm in town, I mean. I wish I got more use out of it, I guess is what I mean.

I always wondered where the word "deadline" came from. No wonder I always felt like I was about to get shot when I came close to missing one. *g*

It all makes sense when you think about it.

[identity profile] elcazavampiros.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I loved the language game. Apparently I'm more Dixie than you. 58% yo.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Did you do the "advanced" one (it's linked before the original Dixie quiz)? I was 90% Yankee on that one. Even though I say "Coke" for all soda pops.

[identity profile] elcazavampiros.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I just took the advanced one. Again I was 58% Dixie.

Yikes. Better get back to that desk, eh. I just managed to get online after my new computer went back to the shop and I had to combine two old, not working computers into one that works. I can't believe it really worked. And alread I have to go back one page on the flist to catch up.

Thanks for the mention!

It seems whenever I'm rooted to it nothing happens on lj. But the moment I have to do something constructive it's all interesting again.

Thanks for such cool art ;o)

Ooh, thanks for the rec list, those like great. And thanks for putting me on it!

In retrospect, I hope I didn't sound like one of people that says, "It's good even though it's B/S!"--I just wanted firm B/Aers on my list not to immediately skip over it. Because damned if you don't always make me see the beauty of Spuffy. ;o)

[identity profile] stultiloquentia.livejournal.com 2006-08-12 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you don't sound like one of those annoying people.

Because damned if you don't always make me see the beauty of Spuffy.

Downloaded your latest last night. I'm taking your compliment, trading Spuffy for Bangel and sending it right back to you. Wow, I mean wow. I'm completely in love with the story. More later, when I'm at leisure to clog up the phone line.

Get anything in the mail from me?

I scored something like 30-40% Dixie on that test. I'm so New England! Though I use y'all a lot. Because it's right, dangit.

What part of Florida?
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-08-14 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not at home, so haven't been able to check the mail. But omg! Mail!

Totally agree on the y'all.

Gainsville, FL. Why?
my_daroga: Mucha's "Dance" (Default)

[personal profile] my_daroga 2006-08-14 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Because I used to live in Orlando, so I'm curious about where people are going. See, if I know the place, then I can think, "hmm, tkp's grooving on by my old place, that's so cool!" or whatever.

Or else, I'm just an infernal busybody.

OMG speaking of mail, I've got Mr. A hooked on Anne of GG!!! Yes, that required 3 !'s. Because he claimed that he'd seen it, but now he says he must have seen Anne of Avonlea, and wow is Anne hot.

Yes. The family of [livejournal.com profile] l_aurens is incurably deviant.

So anyway, I'm having the immense satisfaction of watching him watch Anne for the first time. I know pretty much every line, so I can pay attention to his reactions, and it's awesome. Except he keeps trying to ship Anne and Diana, which is logical but he will be disappointed somewhat.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-08-14 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, I was just wondering if you knew someone in FL or something. Or were going to be there for some weird unexplained reason so I could meet you. Wah!

Anne is totally hot! Omg! Yay! You should read this fic by [livejournal.com profile] stoney321. It doesn't get porny, but it's Anne/Diana and it's so sad and sweet. I've been a total Anne/Gil h0r since I was like 8, but when I was little I always thought Diana was the hot one (CURVES!). I always wanted to have a friend like her or be just like her and meet someone like Anne, and from that perspective I kinda get all femslashy on them too. Hee! I'm so happy your husband is enjoying it, and that you're having fun sharing the love!
my_daroga: Mucha's "Dance" (redheads)

[personal profile] my_daroga 2006-08-14 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, I won't be in FL. Hopefully ever again. No, wait, that's not nice, because there are peoples I love in Florida. Oh well. I escaped! But we will meet someday. Oh yes, we will. Because Seattle is cool. And TX is... well, hot. And... wait. What? Where in TX do you live again? Because it may just be that someday I'll have to go to Dallas for onsite research for Phantom book...

Okay yes, Anne is hot, but are we allowed to say so pre-16 or so? Mr. A and I have a joint problem of pointing out hotness of people not old enought to be hot. I mean, I don't think we want to sleep with kids or anything. But you know... people are hot. I can see your love for Diana, though for me personally I like them stick-like and redheaded, so as to be more like myself. Though Diana is a beautiful woman as well.

We were wondering how long we could spend in Anne's company without taping her mouth shut.

Anyway, the shared girlporn is awesomely fun, and about on par with when I showed him Pride and Prejudice and watched him get all het up over Ehle and Firth both. Yum!
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2006-08-14 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I live in Houston, but if I was still here, I'd drive up to Dallas to meet you. I'd bust in on [livejournal.com profile] stoney321 as well, because she lives there.

The thing about movie!Anne is Megan Follows is around 17 or so. They make her act like a 14 year old, which yes, makes it kinda squicky for people like us to lust after her, but mine eyes see a reasonable age, you know?

Yeah, I think I'd have to lock Anne in a room sometimes for some peace and quiet.

And ha! It's impossible not to ship Lizzy/Darcy, esp. with that movie, I think.
my_daroga: Mucha's "Dance" (Default)

[personal profile] my_daroga 2006-08-14 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, well I'm not going to Dallas anytime soon. It's just, you know, a possibility.

Was she really 17 at the time? I was thinking 15 or so. Hmm, just looked it up. Wow. They did good.
