I've only heard massive hatred for B/A fans and B/S fans. It might be the circles I happen to run in, because my OTP is B/A.

I've seen some hatred for the Kittens (Willow/Tara shippers) too. But not even close to the B/A, B/S crowd, mainly because there's so many more B/A and B/S shippers.

Awww, I love Willow/Tara.

Fans can be crazy. Some fans do scare me, and it's not about who they ship but just about people being stupid. But in the end, I love them all, because they make fandom the rich and exciting place it is.

And that sounds cheesy but it's true.

I've read scary stories. Scary as in "You don't want to meet this person in a dark alley at night!" scary.

No one ever hated on the C/Aers. We are just too insignificant. :P

No, I think after the Connor/Evil!Cordy scenes people just thought you lot had all the pain you could handle. :)

True... we already got hated on by the writers. Connor/Cordy, an image almost as vile as the Clem/Snyder that tkp just put in my head.

I actually left the Stranger Things (C/A) forum after Apocalypse Nowish, 'cuz that board became A Very Bitter Place after that ep aired. Really threatened to interfere with my love of the show... I still thought season four rocked the house, Cordy/Connor notwithstanding, but it felt very lonely amongst the other C/Aers.

The way to enjoy JW work is not getting emotionally attached to the characters.

Enjoy the show for the show, because if you start liking the characters, and wishing they'll ship A with B and it'll be the best ship evah, and the characters will be happy and grow as people and be fine humans that deal with their issues in a sane manner... well, that way madness and resentment and bitterness lie.

I love the characters, and would enjoy them less if the characters were happy and fine humans who dealt with their issues in a sane manner.

Straightening them out, giving them their happy, that's the purview of fanfic. Fucking them up, that's for the shows.

But, that's just the way I watch.

[identity profile] jgracio.livejournal.com 2006-10-04 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's okay, but when you're watching Angel S5, seeing Fred and Wesley finding happiness and all you can think is "I wonder just what horrible, horrible thing is gonna happen to them?" something might be wrong.

Because characters in the Buffyverse (Firefly didn't last long enough to reach that stage), really have nothing to live for. They're all like Angel in a way, cursed. They moment they get happy it goes downhill real bad. Slit your wrists bad. Every single time.

I'm not saying a show where every character is happy happy, joy joy is the way to go, but one where happy moments, every happy moment, is the harbinger of doom...

Aw, come on. Willow and Kennedy! Buffy and The Immortal! Faith and Wood! Andrew and Nearest Charismatic Male! All the really important relationships, the ones the fans cared passionately about, were validated in the end!

I thought about saying that, without the sarcasm, and then I realized sarcasm would be necessary, because you're really really right.

*is sad*

But. I still love it all anyway.

Dude, where the hell were you four years ago when I was renting my clothes and crying bitter tears for a OTP gone way the hell off the rails?

:P

Luckily, I am currently practicing your words of wisdom while watching Bones.

I like Connor/Cordy.

Because it is sick and twisted.

I think a lot of the initial dislike for W/T shippers (at least in S4) was denial: "OMG you perverts! Willow is NOT GHEY!!! She likes BOYS!!!" When I started reading rec.arts.tv. btvs in late season 5, there were still anti-Tara threads going. Seems quaint now, but it was as nasty and bitter as the redemption wars in its day. If the Kittens hadn't packed up their board and gone home when Tara died, W/T would have a much greater net presence today.
