All your choices are very right! It's very hard to pick the rightest!
Also, you mispelled "argue" in one of the questions (/nitpick) and I picked the fourth choice in the "what's wrong about Wes/Angel" question, even though now that I think about it, I think that's what I LOVE about them.
I wish I could edit polls! I'd go back and fix that. Oh well.
I picked that choice for W/A too. As I picked "they could never admit they care for each other" for S/A. In both cases, that's what I *love*, that tension. But that's what sends me running back to B/A every time, too--B/A were at least once loving and unashamed and happy. Maybe they can't quite get there again, but I have more hope for them than I do most other ships.
"I'm a poll category!" she crowed. (I've always wanted to use "crowed," yet never found the proper scenario.)
Dude. This was the best poll ever. Why? Because I had to read each section five times to make a choice. I'm still not happy with my S/B answer. And I don't know what George Wendt/beans means, but it's now my mantra.
(I still love S/X in that way that you never forget the first person you made out with and in fact make it a much bigger and shinier event than it actually was and write lots of thoughtful first person narratives about that Salon never publishes because they're all about breastfeeding.)
I thought about making it radio buttons and decided that was too cruel.
Okay, did you ever watch Anamanaics? Probably not. But anyway, these crazy cartoons, whose job it was to annoy everyone, one ep went to everybody in this mall saying, "Would you like to take a survey?" (in this really chanty sing song voice). And the questions were ALL variations of: do you like beans? Do you like George Wendt? Would you like to see George Wendt eating beans? It lasted forever and for some reason, I've never forgotten it. That show was the shit.
I wasn't sure how to word the one about you. I know you'll always love it, and it's not even right to say you're no longer interested in it...should've put Sue no longer lives and breathes it? I don't know.
The problem with B/anybody is that 'the slayer is alone' and I know Buffy nixed that with her friend and family and all and then went on to share the power with a whole bunch of teeny boppers, but Buffy was the last of her breed - Kendra and Faith were the only one's of their breed.
Yes, Buffy is 'filled with love' and it's 'brighter than the fire' but the love that I believe the FS was talking about was the love for humanity and the desire to protect it.
In conclusion, Buffy/calling OTP with great watchers, family, friends, and lovers as sidekicks only.
Well, this is why I love "Chosen": Buffy has her friends, her family, and most of all she is no longer along any more. But that lost shot is of just her, with an empty road ahead of her, and she's smiling. She'll always have that support network, but I think she'll always make her own way alone. That's what I love about her.
But that doesn't change me from *wanting* her to get a chance to just lay it all down, to make a life for herself, which is why I'm a big smooshy B/Aer at heart. But when I'm realistic about it, I tend to think that Buffy and Angel will always be a part of each other's lives (as will Spike), and that they'll have more happy moments together and more sad moments together, but that in the end, both of them will be smiling at the empty road alone.
I was going to check off every single item on the "What's wrong with S/A" list, but then I thought, "Wait. Those are all the reasons I *love* them." Well, except for Angel being a great big brawny man and Spike being a blood-crying girl.
But anyway, I know exactly what you mean. I checked that they'll never be able to admit that they care for each other and that they'll never give each other a perfect happy, but this is what I love about them too.
It also drives me nuts. This poll is actually about the fact that A/S IS Scarlett O'Hara/Rhett Butler. The latter was like, my first ship ever from when I was in 5th grade, and ever since then, I've been trying to get those two together in my head. But it's impossible. They might fuck and argue and fight and love love love, but they won't ever *say* it and I can't ever see them resting peacefully and lovingly in each other's arms, because one or the other will suddenly perceive that they're exposing some kind of vulnerability and lash out, and hurt the other one, and then it's back and forth again and again and it's hot and sexy and entertaining and I can see where it would be really really comfortable in a way but it's not Buffy and Angel holding hands and being cheesy and kissing in the moonlight, it just isn't. See I put Angel and Spike in a home with puppies and give them silk sheets and then Kita gave Spike froot loops and lots of naked hotness and then there was lots and lots of fucking and there STILL weren't I love yous, even if the insults and the bruises kind of say it, I want there to be a MOMENT, just one, just one where they let each other love each other and there just won't be, there just won't, and this is really driving me kind of nuts, lately.
Yeah, I spent like, weeks on the first three questions, but then got burned out. I don't know *why* exactly, I spend so much time on something like goofy poll questions, but there ya go. Thanks ;o)
I'm weird sometimes. This may make me a bad fan - but the thing that cracked me up most about this was the Rosencrantz & Guildenstern reference. Now THERE'S a slash story waiting to be written.
- Oh, Rosencrantz! - Who? - Isn't that you? - I thought you were...?
Not to mention all the "heads" and "tails" jokes. OK, I'll stop now.
Where it's all Buffy/greatest enemies, Faith/greatest dreams, Spike/present destiny/past destiny/future destiny, Angel/family, because Buffy is the Darla counterpoint and Faith is the Drusilla counterpoint, and all hope is lost, but there's only hope left, because EVERYTHING is the same and EVERYTHING is different?
I was thinking ok, English dude, superhero, what--ahahahahah Alfred. And then I erased it because I was like, MY WESLEY IS NOT ALFRED. EVEN, AT ALL. But then I thought it was funny, so I left it up, so people could leave comments comprised soley of:
Alfred/Batman, with three question marks.
And then . . . people voted for it. They also voted for Bambi/Thumper. *shrugs* I had some great Angel/Wesley ones, and they flew out of my head the moment I went to go write them down.
Hee! The poll is so much fun! I especially agree on "Xander *isn't* an innocent unloved boy who is ready to be corrupted by Spike's jaded cynicism fucking that warm untouched white arse in search of freshness and hope and home. Besides, arse isn't ever fresh, and there might be coming but it ain't home," being the thing that doesn't make Spander work. Grrr, I hate that plotline!
I ashamed to say that I used to write like that before, but in my defense I used to read Spander before watching the show. I still love the ship, I think Xander and Spike has a lot in common, love many fanfics about them, but I know some of them are awful.
And this made me laugh out loud:
"there are too many fics in which Angel is a great big brawny man and Spike is a blood-crying girl."
I don't read Spangel but blood-crying girl Spike appears in Spander sometimes, in the fics where Xander is the great big browny man. *g*
It was weird, when I tried to find out what was so great about S/X, just how many fics I ran across with that plot line. The thing is, it's not necessarily a bad plot, and some of the fics were quite entertaining--it's just not Spike, and *especially* not Xander.
