WHAT IS *WRONG* WITH ME?

Christ, I have a problem.

???? Rhetorical question, sweetie?

No, I really wanna know. As I told Lynne below, the biggest problem *should* be that I don't understand why I need this in my life. But the biggest problem is *actually* that there are two fanfics in the world for this. I need MOAR. Why am I obsessed with something no one else apparently cares about?

[identity profile] ares132006.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe there are people out there that care but you haven't found them yet. I was like that with Angel at first. And then I discovered fanfiction and a whole new world opened up before me. I hope you do find other *possessed* people to share your obsession with.

I could be wrong, but if it's not at ff.n, usually it doesn't exist. I've found two Michael/Tom fics written by the same person, both of which were awesome, posted on a rareslash comm in 2006. That's all I've found googling, looking through all godfather comms on lj, everyone with godfather listed as an interest, rare comms, ff.n, yuletide, and godfather fan sites.

Of course I will keep on looking. It doesn't seem that far-fetched a pairing! Anywho, thanks for the encouragement :o)

hehe, I know the feeling. I have a folder full of screen shots of every time Sonny & Tom looked at each other in the first movie. :D

I don't usually need pictures or screen caps to facilitate my obsessions. Nor do I ever usually get obsessed with the actors. But I think because there is so little activity fandom-wise for this--so few fics or discussion or obsessing taking place, I'm totally trying to fill the gap.

Thanks so much for your fics--fuel for the fire and all, and really great fuel it is!

I don't see any problem at all, myself. ROWR.

I think I would *like* my main problem to be that I don't understand why I need this in my life.

Instead, my main problem is there is no fic for this pairing, and it's all I can think about.

You say wrong, but I see "right." Huh.

I WISH YOU WOULD SEE "WRITE"...so I could have something to read. There's only two fics in the world with this pairing, stoney. It makes me cry into my pillow every night.

I love you. And your crazy whiplash-inducing fandom shifts. Also now you need to write the fic so's I can read it.

This is the way I used to be, before Buffy. New fandom every 3 months, often totally random.

HAHAHA.

The thing is I sorta feel like I can write crack for something like Batman. Because it's Batman. But even though what I'm writing for Godfather is total crack, I feel worse about it because the canon is subject matter based on real life horribleness, and it's not romantic at all, and I don't see it as romantic, but I wanna write meaningless crack about it anyway. I know all our stories don't have to have hidden depths, but I feel like certain subject matters demand it. Batman doesn't, neither does HP or POTO. Sometimes I did feel this way about SoM, though, but it was easier because Sound of Music is about the good guys, and even if it's crack the bad guys are appropriately villainized, I mean even though there's singing.

[personal profile] my_daroga 2009-01-14 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I see what you mean. The urge you sort of think shouldn't be, but then again you're not harming anyone, so... Or something.

But per our discussion the other day about appropriate writing matters... Are you so sure your meaningless crack wouldn't have hidden depths?
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
well, the bats/commish was supposed to be meaningless and I think turned out quite thoughtful.

But the Godfather I've written so far is all "Tom is an orphan it's so so sad!!!"

The Godfather fic I wrote in 2005 and posted on ff.n was a bit more respectable, imo. At least it wasn't about how much I want to smish and romanticize orphans and boy prostitutes. I mean, come on.

[personal profile] my_daroga 2009-01-14 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
...You may have a point, there. You're probably just getting shallow in your old age.

Don't boy prostitutes need romance, too?
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
They need healthy romances though, that deal with their issues and treat their problems as real. They do not need twisted little-brother-who-weirdly-sometimes-surrogates-as-father-figure fucking them through the floor, jerking them around, making them feel worthless, ruthlessly using their helplessly loyal love and stunted emotional growth and neediness to make them into instruments of destruction and unquestioning servitude.

OMG I LOVE THEM.
my_daroga: Mucha's "Dance" (Default)

[personal profile] my_daroga 2009-01-14 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say that's at least as realistic, anyway, as "dealing with their issues" romance.

But yeah, you're a horrible person. (And remember who this is coming from, orphan-story-wise.)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)

ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Orphan sandwich.

I told you about the novel I wanna write where the heroine keeps wishing she was an orphan, not because she doesn't think her parents are just great, but because nothing happens to kids who aren't orphans. I think the fictional idea of orphans is just something other people are automatically interested in, though the reality is quite different.
my_daroga: Mucha's "Dance" (Default)

[personal profile] my_daroga 2009-01-14 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, absolutely. And I think a story where the heroine thinks this is entirely appropriate. Like Mulder saying he always wished he had a peg leg, because then no matter what you do it's an accomplishment. It's not right, of course, but it's illuminating that he thinks that, even idly.

But I think we've talked about this before--the need to remove parents (fictionally) so that the protagonist can either have adventures or get into major trouble. And if they don't grow up, like Annie, this never has any major consequences. If they do grow up, I think you run into a problem where you have to write it really, really well or it's exploitation.

Damn I like exploitation sometimes.
ext_7189: (Default)

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, so the protagonist can have adventures, get in trouble, and have immediate sympathy.

I think the things we are discussing is one reason I like the fantasy genre so much. If the world itself isn't real, I don't feel the need for real life situations to be treated realistically.

HEE MULDER. Is obviously awesome.

[personal profile] my_daroga 2009-01-14 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
At that same time, isn't it nice when you can see reality reflected in fantasy? But it does give a distance to it, so you can sort of "matte out" the stuff you don't want to address and focus on what you want.

Hunh.

I think I just discovered my husband's worst nightmare.

(Anonymous) 2009-01-14 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
...Tom Hagen looking at Michael Corleone and thinking, "I am so getting fucked tonight" while Michael is thinking, "Imma kill that guy . . . maybe that guy . . . and that guy over there who's looking funny at my wife . . ."? That is Maze's worst nightmare? Or is it just Godfather slash in general?

HEE. I want to know.

[identity profile] kita0610.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Godfather slash in general.

One time, I read him Spencer for Hire slash. (Spencer is his hero. The story was Spencer/Hawk). I thought he was gonna cry. He is so very open minded about most things. Then I just hit this wall that's like ORITE U R A HETEROSEXUAL MALE OVER 40!

[identity profile] tkp.livejournal.com 2009-01-15 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what Spencer for Hire is...I had to look it up.

But you can tell hubby I *do* know that Tom Hagen was obviously a rentboy.

Kita I have problems.
